Now saying U18 they are hoping to push back a couple of weeks but still go ahead. Will all depend on what Vic looks like come early August I guess.
With the restrictions in place, they can't start until a minimum of 20 August 2020 and that's without a training period, so the actual start date, if there is one, won't be until mid September, when the season usually ends.

I mentioned on the draft board, a possible option is to hold some week long training camps, something similar to the old AIS academy camps, attended by all Victorian draft hopefuls and recruiters.

Then at the end of the week, the recruiters pick two teams to play in a one off match.

Currently everyone is watching the SANFL, reserves and U18’s, so getting a handle on the SA draft hopefuls.

I would imagine there would be part time recruiters for most clubs watching the WAFL, colts and PSA in WA. There’s just not much vision and reporting coming out of WA.

Hopefully we see a SA v WA game or two later in the year.

When are year 12 exams?

They'll be lucky to get a couple of weeks in September to play

Then a draft just before or after Christmas?
I imagine before Christmas, with kids arriving at their clubs post the Christmas and New Year break.

That’s if we still have Covid-19 spikes, closed State borders and mandatory two week, self funded quarantine in place.

Honestly, it’s hard to get excited or interested in such articles when half the draft pool aren’t playing, when W.A and QLD have next to no live coverage or vision of draft prospects each week, and there’s almost no discussion from local watchers of our academy kids.

I wish I could go to a QAFL game or two on weekends, but I work weekends, so that rules me out from adding any actual commentary on our kids.

On the draft board we’ve pretty much discussed in depth everyone’s preseason lists and scouting reports.

There’s a little excitement and discussion when a recruiter or ex-recruiter is interviewed, especially if they mention a new name.

Other than that, we’re just enjoying endless circle discussions and debates.

No Jackson Callow, interesting. But then again who really knows. Looks like maybe a possible KPF that could be there including Logan McDonald.

Yet they can all go to school in VIC? (meaning also still have school busses etc) Only early childhood learning closed..

Sam Berry possibly another notable omission. More so than Callow for mine. Potentially Brandon Walker as well.

And Cody Brand is a somewhat interesting (not really, Twomey’s an Essendon fan) inclusion. Joel Jeffrey the other.

Good report on McDonald from the weekend.

Logan’s a terrific kid and a promising player (who has performed very well at carnival level). Is already pretty mature physically, but I wonder if he has the ceiling that some others might.

For me it’s a simple question.

Long term, does Logan project as an upgrade on McStay?

More importantly can he play the same role as McStay, but add more to the forward line and team.

A different player to McStay, but is a natural forward (that makes him different for a start).

Kicked 3 goals yesterday in his senior WAFL debut and named bog.

I really do think if we keep those two first rounders that we need to target a KPF. To be honest maybe even both. I don’t see Ballanden, Skinner and Fullerton making it as a KPF in the AFL and as pleasing as McStay has played we need an improvement on him and also Hipwood.

We’d probably have to package them together to try and trade up to have a chance at the possible third best tall forward in this years draft.

If both picks are towards the back end of the first round, our best chance might be a team looking to trade back for points to match an early bid on an academy prospect.

Fair chance they both end up in 20’s if both Port and us make the prelim finals.

A skinny 18 yo key forward wouldn't be much good for at least a few years. Go with what we have already. Keep improving the mid field. Trade up into the top 10 and aim for another blue chip mid
The three top non club tied key forwards aren’t really that skinny.

All three are already bigger than Hipwood. Probably only take two preseasons for them to rival McStay.

About the same time frame as most of the mids we might possibly draft.

Unless Port or us bomb out of the finals, our two first round picks are highly unlikely to get us any where near the top 10.

Best we can probably hope for is to trade up for the Bulldogs first round pick if they finish say 12th.

And by the time it got around to our pick, that pick 12 has possibly pushed out to pick 16.

Okay fair enough, any chance of one of these three forwards lasting to the mid teens?
