Just on the draft picks discussion

had the hawks won 2 from 8 rather than 6 from 8 in 2019, they’d maybe have pick 4, but still draft Will Day anyway. He’s had one of the better first seasons

having said that, they would have had more draft currency points so might have been able to conjur something’s later on.

Yeah thats why I wouldn't rule out trading for extra picks. For example Geel might give up a lot for Bruhn, Freo/Syd ditto with McDonald and Campbell.Try and fleece with multiple 1st or future 1st. Biggest thing is to finish below Sydney, doubt that will happen though.

OK, Think I have changed my mind. I want Tanner Bruhn now, who does this remind you of?
Geelong Falcon boy
Under 16 mvp
Missed his draft year with injury
won Geelong Grammar BnF in year 10
Gun state cricketer.
Is absolute class, something we miss.
Its Hodgey all over.

Been doing some digging and apparently Geelong will throw the kitchen sink to get him, its the reason they traded into this years draft. They want him bad. I think he's our man. Unless we try and fleece Geelong for 2 or 3 of their first rounders? I d be inclined to just nab him. It means the draft is 6/7 deep I think. This bloke is most likely to be best mid out of draft according to Knightmare.

He's like Elijah Hollands-lite

Yeah I'd love to know where we had him on our draft board.

Looks like it’s going to be very hard to finish below the swans. 19 points against freo? Even we kicks 32 in the wet.

From a draft perspective we needed them to beat Fremantle since their upcoming games are harder than ours. Not only did they fail to do that but they played bad enough that their percentage dropped below ours. It's going to be very hard for us to get Pick 3 unless they fluke one or two wins against better opposition.

They'll be the ones laughing when they get two top four players and bounce back up the ladder with the amount of young talent they have.

We might miss out on the next McGrath, Setterfield, Schache, Davies-Uniacke, Dow, O'Rourke, McCartin, Boyd, Kolodjashnij, Plowman, Toumpas, Tyson or Buntine. :shoutyoldman:

McGrath would be leading our BnF right about now.

We might also miss on a Franklin, Roughy, Lewis, Rioli, Day, Selwood, Rowell, etc

That is what I said last year, so many good players in 20s-30s, give up few high draft picks for 4-5 mid range picks. There is no right or wrong way. If you nail draft picks, quicker way to rebound, like what Geelong did. If you say high draft picks equivalent to good players, if you pick up 2 a year, how long with it take to get to top 4 contention?

Lewis, Cyril, Day and Selwood were all outside of that top 4/5 range.

There's plenty of talented juniors each year and many of those come from outside the Top 5 picks to become stars. At this point to get above Syd, it'd almost certainly be via trying to lose on purpose - no thanks.

Yes. 2004 draft (Big Rough #2, Buddy #5, Lewis #7). Cyril was #12 in 2007 draft. There are those that are paid good coins to make the right selection for HFC.

Sydney are pretty well set up for the future, wouldn’t be laughing at them at all. Majority of their team is made up of talented kids.

No doubt they will. I know Hawks rate Campbell very highly.
If we don't finish below the Swans I would support trying to trade to get ahead of them to be able to bid on this kid. He's definitely worth it on his merit as a player. I can't see the Swans not matching a bid on him though. They won't be happy if they don't walk out night one with this kid and another top 5 selection. I'm a fan of making them unhappy.

Helps when the best of the talent they have were all players they had exclusive access to.

Heeney, Mills, Blakey all free hits for them.

Yeh they're shameless - they blatantly tank & don't even try to hide it

Either this or pray North do finish below them and bid on Campbell. (Which does makes sense because they will have another 1st rounder probably in the top 10)

Is it, Is this really anymore young talent than our list which is questionable at best?

Yes, there's a lot more at this stage (unless Walker, Kosi, Morris, Finn, Jones come in and show they have what it takes. Their midfield and forward line is looking really good moving forward.

Mills, Heeney, Rowbottom, Stephens, Florent
Dawson, McCartin, Heywood, Taylor, Blakey, Papley

Don't know anything about Foote and Bell.
