Comment on Jones from the main draft thread based on playing league on the weekend:

It was a pretty tough night for Jones. He started in defence and then got moved forward in the second half before getting moved back to defence in the last quarter. His upside is pretty clear. He's just so physically strong and flashed a bit of break-away speed on Friday night. Pair that with a long, penetrating kick and you've got some intriguing weapons. He definitely looks to have the flexibility to play on a few different types as a medium defender and looks a particularly good match up for those powerful midfielders who rest forward which could provide very valuable at AFL level.

That’s what had me wondering about SPP not having seen him. Does read well though.

Jones has played a tough position this year, basically full back at 17 playing against older and taller men with plenty of experience.

He has acquitted himself well in that role and in the AFL he would be in a position which is much better suited to his size. He could be a Collingwood Maynard type half back to start out.

I've been checking 7plus to see if they are broadcasting Swan Districts games to watch Denver Grainger-Barras. No luck after 7 rounds and round 8 is Perth v Subi. He finally played in a winning team against Peel Thunder which was his 6th WAFL league game.

Round 7 was Perth v Subi. This weekend will be SD vs Perth so not only can you finally see DGB he will be going up against McDonald.

Yeah my bad I got games played and rounds mixed up because of the bye. So it's a definite they are covering Swan Districts?? I looked at several places for confirmation who was Rd 8 game, but couldn't see anything.

Did we miss something in not drafting Riccardi?
Are there some other ‘mature’ options we could look at?
Choco would say yes and yes. Heard him talking about Jake after his debut game and thought I'd better have a look at him given it was a fair debut. Game no. 2 was even better. Story in Monday's Age about him.

Choco says - "But I promise you there's at least three others [at Werribee] that should be drafted right now."

If they are KPP's I hope we have a good look at them.

Toby Mahony’s draftable. Lucas Rocci and Aiden Domic would be two others. Maybe Jack Henderson

Let's say Jones does get a bid around 15 or earlier how many of our 2nd rounders will it cost us our first 2?

You can do you own calculation using this great resource Lore has on the draft and trading board.

It is a "live" draft order as its updated after every round of footy.

Click on Draft Order link under the table and you will see the draft pts per pick and what the points needed for that pick after 20% discount or father son and NGA bids. You can see what picks Port have to match that pick 10 or pick 15 after the 20% discount.

Cheers for that if Adelaide bid with GWS first currently pick 10 it will basically use all 3 of our 2nds😱

You only apply 20% discount to the bid you have to match, not also to the picks you use.

Pick 10 - 1395 pts - 20% discount (279pts) = 1116 pts

We have Freo's 2nd round pick 24 so we apply 785 pts and leaves 331pts
We have Collingwood's 2nd round pick via Brisbane pick 32 so we use 331 pts of 584 pts leaves 253 pts.

253 pts generates 3rd round pick 52, We still have our 2nd round pick 37 and in the 3rd round we have St Kilda's pick 39 and our pick ie 55. These would be used to match a bid on Taj Schofield if it comes before pick 37.

We have a deficit on matching Mead's bid last year but I don't remember how many points that is. Those pts would come off the 253 pts.

We have a 116 deficit from last year so need to lose 253 +116 = 369 points. ie pick 37

Since my last post I read something about the deficit coming off the the pick from the round the player is drafted in the following year's draft. So if I understand the rules correctly then there is no deficit applied to the Jones bid if we have to match a 1st round bid and the deficit comes off our 2nd round pick.

So if the above paragraph is correct, the calculation is

Pick 10 -> 1395 pts - 20% discount (279pts) = 1116 pts

We have Freo's 2nd round pick 24 so we apply 785 pts and leaves 331pts
We have Collingwood's 2nd round pick via Brisbane, pick 32, so we use 331 pts of 584 pts, which leaves 253 pts.

253 pts generates 3rd round pick 52.

Our 2nd round pick 37 is 483 pts - take the Mead 116 deficit pts = 367pts ie pick 44.

So to match a bid on Taj Schofield we have St Kilda's pick 39, our new generated pick 44, our 3rd round pick of 55 and pick 52 generated from the Jones bid.

I haven't been following the potential draftees much this year. Is Jones worth matching for at 10? How early would be too early to match? It's a pretty shallow draft innit so later picks not worth holding?

Apparently he is close to a top 10 pick so would still be worth matching.
