I’m guessing we’ll trade out our first rounder next year too, with Jase Burgoyne progressing the way he has, so hopefully the deficit doesn’t matter too much next year either
Adz is right. There are too many unknowns to trade out next year's first. The class of 2021 looks strong and no-one has seen any of the 2021 Victorians play at U18 level. Then there are all the late bloomers from the class of 2020 who won't get the chance to show their bloom until next year. We may find ourselves easily able to use our first before Jace and get 2 quality juniors.

If Jace kicks on next year, we can always trade our first then. There will be no shortage of suitors in 12 months for a first round pick. Unless we have a Godfather offer (an offer we simply can't refuse) we keep our 2021 first, at least for 12 months.

AFL TALENT Ambassador Kevin Sheehan has released his Top AFL Draft Prospects in the category of Medium/Tall Midfielders ahead of the 2020 NAB AFL Draft to be held in the week commencing Monday December 7.

The Medium/Tall Midfielders group has the potential to see multiple first round picks at this year's NAB AFL Draft as the AFL release the fifth positional profiles of contenders as selected by AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan.

THE AFL is expected to revert to a one-night NAB AFL Draft event this year with a likely decline in selections due to the COVID-19 ravaged season.

The League briefed clubs on Wednesday about its plans for the draft, saying it was working towards taking it back to a one-night event on December 9, which would likely fall before the start of the Big Bash cricket competition in Melbourne.
I'd be pissed if I had the first 2 picks in the 2nd round...

Why is that?
Surely clubs could still trade for them anyway.
Their value is increased because they generally have the night off to think about who is left on the board and make offers for the picks. If they dont get the night off they get 5 mins instead of being able to bid against each other for hours.

We got extra picks when we had it and traded it to Brisbane to go back 1 spot so they could get Robinson.

It’s feeling like nothing is going right for our neighbours this year...apart from those 3 games they won which apparently has initiated their resurgence up the ladder.
Still they should get an excellent player with pick one which they can sell to their mob as a future star.

Does matching a first round bid on Jones met our need to use a first rounder? (I know we don’t have to use one this year or next$

Ie you have to use 2 in a 4 year period. Does matching the Jones bid met this?
Yes we dont need to worry about that rule for at least a couple years.

Yea I know that. The don’s compensation pick for Daniher, doesn’t count as them taking a first round pick so they still have to use the first rounder this year and nexts. Just wondering if matching a bid counts as taking a first rounder or if it’s outside the rule also.

If GWS sticks to its guns and Caldwell is forced to go through the draft to get to Essendon, where would he slot into people’s rankings for the upcoming draft?

Top 5? Top 10?

So we may have 2-3 live picks.
List size of say 42.
Out: Ebert, Westhoff, Sutcliffe, Watts, Buzza, Grundy, Atley, Cox(Rookie)
7 spots (assuming Frederick and Patmore are redrafted), minus 2 for a reduced list and 2 for Schofield and Jones, one for Fantasia. That’s two spots remaining, both likely to be third round or later.

We have a strong crop of ready to go juniors; Drew, Williams, Bergman, MG, etc. So we can probably afford to take some more speculative picks, give them two years and then reassess.

Some potential options;
- Spicer, Holmes, Lazzaro, Maher, Sharp - all athletic types who are raw but could develop into something fairly handy

- Lord, Kolar, Baldwin, Neale, Rosman- generally athletic talls with question marks.

Most of these guys don’t have much exposed form but have shown patches and have the athleticism to make it.

Fredrick and Patmore don't need to be redrafted. They are out of contract, so they need to be offered a new contract each, but were told they can go home and not have to worry about AFL Covid rules / protocols because we wouldn't be selecting them for the finals.

Also Sutcliffe and Grundy were rookies like Cox.

Woodcock has been re-signed but club hasn't said if it is as a rookie or an elevation back onto the main list. If he has been elevated, we only need to add 2 - Jones and Schofield - to main list via this year's draft.

Interesting - I'd love to see mcinnes go that high. Macca19 you had Caldwell is your super 8 from '18 from memory, waddaya reckon? How does this year's top 9 or so compare?

The talls compare really well. JUH, Mcdonald, Thilthorpe, GB are as good as Luko, Kings, Blakey. Smalls are some way off that top 10 group of 08.

yea should have said recontracted. Was Sutcliffe a rookie?

that’s a good point re woodcock. With list changes we may not take a live pick.
