Thinking ahead I know, but any chance that Jesse Motlop (Daniel's lad, currently in the Fremantle NGA) could be picked up by Port in 2021?

If he's really good, then we could get him with a first rounder - given the new NGA rules for next season, Freo couldn't match the bid.

Did kick a total of 18 goals as a quicksilver small forward in two games this year, albeit at a low level of competition, so must have some talent!

our own recruiters couldn’t tell you if we can draft him with our first next year. It’s so far out to tell

Is he living in the Kimberley's? Pretty sure that is Freos country zone and closeish to Darwin.

Bugger Mots only played 83 games for us.

We may need to use that pick on Burgoyne.

If the club was eyeing off a late pick or a rookie this year, maybe a speculative type, like Isiah Winder from WA, could be the go?
Quick, good vertical leap, knows where the goals are.
Not aligned AFAIK to either WA club.
With picks predicted to peter out by the late 50's, there may be a few that don't get drafted this year.

Please correct me if i am wrong as i probably am but what i have calculated if we trade 29 for Fanta it leaves us picks 35, 47, 57, 59 which gives us 1,178 draft points.
Worst case i can see Lachie Jones getting bid on is Essendon at pick 8 which with 20% discount would mean 1241 draft points which is 63 points short.
Would mean unless we trade future picks into this year then our 1st pick drops 1 maybe 2 spots depending where we finish which isnt too bad.

I dont expect Schofield to be bid on so reckon we get him as a rookie.

Of Crows bid on Lachie at 9 then we have enough points.

1 other thing to remember is hopefully Sydney Brayden cambell gets bidded on before us and whipes out pick 24 which gives all our picks more points

It is likely that some of the picks will come in slightly. For example if Ugle-Hagen gets bid on at 1 or 2, the Dogs may need 3 picks to match. which then moves later picks up. Maybe Campbell as well?

We were clever to trade out of this draft. The top 10 looks really good and we will get one of the really good ones.

Then it’s a wasteland. Sure, there will be good players but how do you pick them given no championships and no Vic U 18 comp? From about pick 12 or so, the risk goes from 40% in a normal year to 60% this year. It’s a good thing to avoid that lottery.

Conversely, the chance of a gem late is increased this year. A gem @ #50+ has gone from 10% to 20%. Why? If Covid had happened in Bontempellis draft year, he would have been avaiable at 50. Fyfe, Taranto and probably plenty others came on late too. This year, at least in Melbourne, there was no late.

Getting 2 good players (Jones, Schofield) in this draft will be excellent. If we can jag a gem late, this will be an off season for the ages.

there’s about 20-25 interesting players then gets pretty hard. There will be good players picked after that but probably a bit of a crapshoot.

bont wouldn’t have slipped to 50 in his draft year if there had been covid. Likely would be the difference between firming for pick 6 late in the year and going 15-25.

Well maybe not Bont but there are numerous examples. Point is, if ever there was a year not to invest in picks 20-50, this is it- sorry Cows.

If they picked duds (Gallucci at 15 and Poholke at 44) in a recent draft with lots of exposed form, how are they going to go when half the draft class didn’t play this year?

They will use a scientific approach!

Tiser today had it's version of the Crows draft strategy!

Thinks they are not likely to nab Borlase by matching a bid, unless it comes late and they don't need many points to use. I thought NGA players were like F/S, and players had to nominate to be eligible for a club to be able to match bids?

Also mentioned that Newchurch and Edwards were aligned, but everything I have heard to date is that Edwards won't nominate as a F/S - so they can't match a bid for him anyway. Newchurch the most likely one they match for of those three.

Ironically, this is the price of refusing to trade a meaningful pick for Hately. As things stand they have 4-5 picks before any of those 3 players.

Its probably been discussed somewhere, but - as things stand at the moment, what is the minimum amount of players we need to choose in upcoming draft(s) (including rookies)?

Is it minimum 3 altogether (which needs to be at least 1 in main draft)?

Depends on list sizes which have yet to be determined. If they reduce by 2 then minimum picks will be 1.

Hopefully Baldwin really slides and we can grab him give him time to get himself right would be the kpf depth we need.
I know it's a risk but 1 worth taking although he probably goes before we get a crack.

Late key forwards that may be there:

Kaine Baldwin (due to injury)
Glenelg, SANFL / Henley FC
Height: 193cm
Weight: 90kg

Ollie Lord
Sandringham Dragons, NAB League / Geelong Grammar
Height: 195cm
Weight: 84kg

Liam Kolar
Northern Knights, NAB League / St Marys FC
Height: 195cm
Weight: 82kg

With the NAB AFL Draft Combine testing days now completed around the country, recruiters have all the athletic information they need to make their decisions and assessments. Now it is about settling on their final orders.

This is the third update of the Phantom Form Guide for 2020, as we rank the best 25 players in the draft pool.

It does not take into consideration where picks will necessarily land, or where bids for Academy players may come, but is just our view on who are the top flight of this year's group. It will be updated one more time before the draft next month.

186cm/88kg
9/4/02
Woodville-West Torrens/South Australia
Defender/midfielder

Jones couldn't have done any more in 2020. In a season that was such a waste for so many draftees who had their campaigns dashed by the pandemic, Jones took his chance for a full campaign with Woodville-West Torrens' senior side with both hands. The hard and tough defender played in the SANFL premiership with the Eagles and was excellent with his booming kick, clean hands and smart defensive traits. Jones will join Port Adelaide as a Next Generation Academy player and an early bid is expected.

Knightmare's top 48+

7. Port Adelaide - Lachlan Jones (Port Adelaide - Next-Generation Academy - matching Gold Coast's bid)
Height, Weight: 185cm, 88kg
Profile: Powerful, explosive, long-kicking defender who showed he can shut down opponents at SANFL league level. Jones is a Round 1-ready defender and in the future can develop into a midfielder with his power and contested ball-winning capabilities suggesting he could play through there and become among this draft's most influential.
