We should shift heaven and earth to get Lukosius to be our primary key forward. We could trade our 2022 first rounder into the 2021 draft and offer GC 2 first rounders plus someone like Todd Marshall if that’s what it takes to get him.
Lukosius isnt worth 2 firsts let alone 2 firsts plus Marshall.

Ok I've seen a couple of different opinions does anyone know if Adel pass with 40 and a bid comes after that can the come back in or not?
If they had any brains they would move that pick 40 if they don't want to use it.

He's mostly a defender at the moment.

I know it’s a massive risk but I think he could be a great key forward considering that’s what he was drafted as and we need 195cm+ key forward of the future. But I’d back anything that our recruiting team does considering what they have done in the past two years.

So were keeping 1 list spot open according to cd

Might be expecting someone worthwhile to get delisted or not sign a contract.

Just thinking on the Borlase situation.

By the time we match Jones we will only have picks at the very end of the draft.

If the Crows only want to use 4 picks and have already passed at 40 can they still match? Or are all of their picks post 40 forfeited when they pass?

And if it is late enough that the points value is zero, do they even need a pick to match?

P.s. they would still have list spots regardless, it just looks like they are planning on saving some for the pre season or mid-season drafts and hoping to get Borlase and Newchurch as Cat B, effectively getting 2 extra lost spots

Once you pass, that's it. They can't then pick.

I know the rule for Father-Sons is that if you nominate someone for the draft, at a minimum, you automatically forfeit your last selection at the draft to pick them. I'm not sure if that also applies to academies.

If this doesn't apply to academies, and clubs could still select after 'passing' this would be a bit ridiculous and unfair. It means the Crows re-Borlase would have the best of both worlds, they can pass and hope he slips to the rookie draft for whatever cap management reason they wanted, even though they nominated him for the main draft, and then if he doesn't slip they can just change their minds on 'passing' and pick him up.

The only academy rules referred to are here. It isn't clear if an academy nomination for the ND requires you pick them up.

Mock drafts I have seen have the Crows pick 40 coming in to 38.

I just can't see them passing on that pick, nor can I see Borlase being the number 1 player left on their draft board at that stage, especially given their list profile.

If the Crows don't trade out pick 40, Ill be confident they dont get him. If they want him and want to trade it out they will probably wait to do it live just in case a bid comes earlier.

Unfortunately I can't see him lasting to our pick either.

Mocks seem to have Jones going at 11 now, hopefully that keeps sliding and we mght be a chance.

Can they? I was sure a Pass meant that's it, you've finished your night at the draft.

I put the question to Lore who provides a fantastic draft and player movement resource to BigFooty and this was the response I received

Once they pass the player is drafted to the team that bid on them, so you can’t undo it.

I'm not sure this is current, as we listed T Burgoyne last year as a rookie, not on the main list.

Yeah so we didn't nominate him for the main draft, and because he was available still after it we can automatically rookie him if we wish.

Crows could do the same with Borlase, not nominate him for the ND and get him automatically if he slips to the rookie draft.

The question really is, with the Crows nominating Borlase, does that mean they're forced to use their last ND pick to get him.

Yeah so as I thought, once you pass you're basically done for the night. So the Crows shouldn't be able to pass and pick Borlase up later if someone bids.

That's how I understand the process.

I think that people are forgetting that any another team might put in a bid for Borlase before we even have the opportunity to have a crack at him, he'd be appealing to many other teams apart from us and the crows.

From Vader on the Crows board. This section was in the 2018 ND, PSD and rookie draft rules but has since been removed from the ND rules (and kept in the other 2). Interesting.

I'm looking at Section 6.2 (Procedure for National Draft Selection Meeting) of the 2018 AFL Rules document.
(f) Passing on a Draft selection
A Club that passes on any Draft selection at a National Draft Selection Meeting shall be excluded from exercising any further Draft selection(s) at that National Draft Selection Meeting.

Can you really see the Crows passing at 40, which will end up in the 30s anyway?

They said they will only use 4 picks and at the moment they tap out at 23.

This can all change right up to the actual moment, but if they have passed we could get Borlase. Depending on what scraps we have left and if we're interested.

What Adelaide are doing with their rookie list is strange. Please someone correct me if I’m wrong but they have 3 rookies atm. They are adding McKay, Davis and Gibbs to make the maximum of 6 rookies- they have no Cat B rookies.

That leaves 5 spots on their main list- 1, 9, 22, 23, 40.

So they will use 4 then decide whether to use #40. If they use #40, they will have no capacity to match a bid on Borlase or Newchurch as they will have no list spots available. Clearly they are hoping both make it to the rookie draft as they would qualify as Cat B rookies.

Out of respect for Daisy’s contribution to Port, I would bid on James with our first live pick (expected to be #50+). It would at least make the Cows give James a main list contract.
