Lachlan Jones is a lock, but CD made a few comments about the next options in the draft.

Port also has the possibility to draft the son of current midfield coach and 2004 premiership midfielder Jarrad Schofield, Taj Schofield, and has until Wednesday 25 November to register with the AFL its intention.

“We’ve also got a potential father-son in Taj Schofield but that’s not to say we haven’t scoured the draft as to what else might be out there if we have a later pick that can come in,” Davies said.

“And obviously with future picks we’ve got the opportunity to trade back into this draft if we wanted to as well.

“We’ll (notify the AFL of our intent regarding Schofield) in line with that time. We’ve been talking about Taj for a long period of time so I don’t think the answer is going to surprise people when we actually do it but it’s something we’ll work through in the AFL’s timelines.”

Are we likely to need a first rounder for Jase next year, or is something in the 20-s likely to be "enough"? Our traded-out 2021 2nd and 3rd could be refilled via movement of a few depth players who show enough to gain interest/more regular gigs elsewhere.

Maybe we downgrade our 2021 1st rounder to a low 20-s 2021 2nd rounder and bring in an extra pick this year to even the swap. Hey presto, outbid the Cows on Borlase? Edwards? Or am I lacking in ambition and sense with this idea? ;)

I wouldn't worry. The AFL will throw the whole system out next year because *shuffles deck of Victorian clubs*, Geelong complain.

Anyone who doubts our recruiting team must feel pretty good that the pick that we traded into last years draft to get Mitch Georgiades is being tipped to be pick 25 and go on a kid called Seamus Mitchell. Good business.

With Wines contract being back ended and already having lots of cap room surly we throw a big number at lukosius next year.
If he starts to show his capabilties and we believe he can become a gun forward yes. I wouldnt settle for anything less than Moore if he stays as a defender on big coin. Moore is an absolute gun im just saying i dont see value in paying huge money to defenders unless they are of his quality.

yeah i wouldn’t get him here on big money to play back he would be the number 1 forward which would allow Georgiardis to play that second or third tall role.

Geez, thats a big call!

TAJ SCHOFIELD

Midfielder/forward

Woodville-West Torrens

17, 177cm, 74kg

Ranking Points:
90 (U18)

Plays like: Lachie Neale, Robbie Gray

Draft range: 41+

Bamford says:He’s a version of (Port Adelaide’s) Robbie Gray but not quite in the same class. Apart from Powell, ball in hand he’s the best player in this age group from SA. His ball use and decision making is at the elite level. He doesn’t fumble, surveys the ground well, makes the right decision and then executes, which is exactly what clubs want. There’s some Lachie Neale in his midfield play. Very rarely do you see opposition scores off a Taj possession. His issues have been his ankle problems and getting the ball enough but he finished the season off strongly, improving his off-ball running and consistency of performance.’’

We say: There’s been some mixed views on the talented father-son prospect, who showed off his impressive athletic traits at the draft combine, but a bid is still likely to come in the national draft and the Power are as likely to match it.

Players like Taj just need to work ridiculously hard to turn themselves into AFL players and the sky is literally Lachie Neale. Neale has got the absolute most out of himself without any real athletic ability when you compare him to other elite midfielders and also think a long the lines of Tom Mitchell. Problem with taj is i dont think hes a natural ball magnet which these two both are. If he can become that he could be a very good player for us.

So now we have three Robbies: Butters, Williams and Schoefield lol

I watched Jamarra Ugle-Hagan's highlights from the 2019 AFL all-stars futures match last night on youtube. Three things stood out:

1) Ugle-Hagan is a freakish athlete who gets to and wins the ball prolifically all over the ground.

2) Ugle-Hagan is a very ordinary kick. After demanding the footy from teammates, he regularly kicked straight to the opposition even when under no pressure. His setshot kicking for goal in that particular game was also Butcher-like poor.

3) Ugle-Hagan's poor disposal by foot was sharply contrasted by one Taj Schofield, who featured in at least a couple of bits of play with him, where Taj's kicking was immaculate. Similarly, Taj's ball handling and kicking was exceptional in the youtube footage from his U18 game vs Glenelg (see below).
