How difficult is it to get a high quality big bodied mid ? ......the 180cm mids are easily obtained, but not our need

Hollands is a playmaker, an extrovert ..... a player that will win tight games, because he wants to be "the man"

This is his POD over McDonald and Thilthorpe .......yeah, call it "X" Factor
Good 180cm mids are hard to find, I would love Rowell in our midfield

He's the type with potential to lift a team on his shoulders and get the crowd going mental.
True that.

There's also nothing quite like a big forward taking a pack mark and goal.

Going tall with pick 1 is a risk most certainly, but the strikerate high in the draft is getting better with tall forwards. Patton and McCartin obviously ruined with injury, Watts had career befitting of a late first rounder, Boyd almost singlehandedly won a flag for his side and of course NicNat

Then you've got the others who went high like the King's, Luko, and hopefully McAsey.

Next year's draft is shaping up as the one to load up with midfielders, and we are likely to be at the pointy end again.

Richmond style of play has 2 KPFs and 1-2 KPDs; rest are effectively midfielders.

I'd be going aggressively for mids this year and next year; especially given Gallucci is gone and Jones and McHenry are not looking likely at this stage.

Trade for KPs or target free agents when we're ready to have another crack (if we ever are).

That was like Boyd's stand out game ever. Far above his usual output.

The others that weren't fails weren't pick 1s

Best off asking Mutineer about the drop off in talls. DGB will be gone by pick 9. I'm not up to date on much past that.

Imo we're best off speculating on talls with later picks. Not too many pick 1 talls have cut the mustard in recent times after levelling up from juniors.

So many variables around how their bodies change and if they can continue to bully their way. Even with those that played in men's leagues like the SA and WA kids there are still questions if they can translate that open semi-amateur form to a frantic, tight, closed up professional game against the biggest and best defenders in the land.
This !

DGB won't get past SYD at #3

Tex Walker was a highly mobile tall with great agility for most of his career .....but the criticism was his inability to take a pack mark

Bontempelli is seen as a matchwinner .....able to influence the game in the middle or resting forward

Who would you prefer .....Walker or Bont ?

Hence Eddie Ford?
And further to my previous post, all going to fill out into mids that shouldn't get pushed around.
Elijah Hollands 189 cm 85kg
Archie Perkins 188 cm 79kg
Eddie Ford 189 cm 83kg
Caleb Poulter 192 cm 79kg
Jack Carroll 187 cm 76kg
Nathan O'Driscoll 187 cm 78kg
Zavier Maher 185 cm 82kg

I don't see McDonald as that pack marking behemoth type. Traditional lead up forward.
An improved version of Lynch (crows) .........A bit of Ben Brown, a leader to the ball ....two footed jumper, will never be a pack mark

Hollands has pedigree

I'm hoping like hell Jones can start doing that on a regular basis. With Hately in there it does give us a different look, and im sure we'll give Milera more of a run too.

I think our forwardline needs more star power too though, which is why we need another pick inside 6. I'd throw almost anything at the Suns to get 5. Take Hollands at 1 and hope Thilthorpe is still there at 5
I really don’t think Thilthorpe or McDonald or. Barras will last past pick 4, good talls are harder to find then mids. I’m all for one of the talls for pick one.
Holland’s might last and what is the difference between Holland’s and all the other mids in the draft. Is his talent that far beyond every other mid.

we can find mids at pick 9, 22 or 23 but we won’t find those 3 talls with that much talent

Pick 1 - key position defender
Pick 9 - 175cm midfielder we try to turn into a small forward
Pick 22 - medium defender
Pick 23 - an extremely outside midfielder from Tasmania (smokey)
Pick 40 - a very slow accumulating midfielder with poor disposal

You can see in his skills and how he moves he has good bloodlines

King would have been if not for the ACL, and that's why I see Hollands making it to 5 or 6

Who would you sooner Nick Reiwoldt or Marcus Bontompelli would be a better question.

He's had one good year .....Jayden Stephenson had a great year too .....and where's he at LOL

Phillips this year .....most years there's great 180 cm Mids ....we've had too many, same pace, and not had enough diversity in our midfield

So you don't rate Matt Rowell...

I'll keep that in mind.

You cynical man you.

Bont any day of the week, due to his flexibility

Reiwoldt played in an era of much more open FWD lines .....and don't forget Nick endured more than his fair share of criticism during his career

For all this talk of flexibility, Bont doesn't actually do much forward of the ball.

And he's a shocker of a set shot.

Reiwoldt for me......Looked pretty bloody good when they played him on the wing later in his career too.

Reiwoldt only had one weakness in his game, his goal kicking, McDonald doesn't have that flaw in his game.

Top 5 is not top 3. Top 5 is the next group back, behind JUH, Hollands & Logan.
Hollands isn't in many top 3 conversations outside of BF..... Mostly due to the knee it must be said.

DGB will go top 3.

I don't fully agree with this.
I think JUH and McDonald is pretty close.
Hollands, Phillips and DGB next up not much between those 3.
Thilthorpe next.
Either way... you don't have him close enough to the top of the tree to be selecting him without the SA factor.
