He probably doesn't get past 2 tbh.

Clubs might take McDonald for needs but once he's gone you can't overlook Hollands on talent.

Have you ever known a player coming off an ACL to be so high in pick 1 calculations? There is a reason for that. If the imaging on his knee is sound he's a no brainer. Future brownlow candidate.
As I said, Max King.

IMO he's still likely to be the best player from that draft anyway. Ironically, the lack of a Victorian season and national champs probably keeps Hollands in those calculations.

With a normal year he probably slides out.

No way we trade pick 1. Just can't see it.

Crows fans and club need a franchise guy. I'm absolutely spewing we didn't get pick 2, just because we could have landed Either Mcdonald/Thilthorpe + Hollands, but now we will only get one and I have a sneaky feeling we go for Thilthorpe, which at current is my 3rd choice personally.

there will be excellent MID's available at pick 9, so as much as I hate that we won't land Hollands (if we go big with pick 1) we should still get a great player, like Brahn, Macrae, Perkins , Powell etc. Then if we can wrangle another pick and land Poulter / Cook, I'd be happy with that haul.
You just rebutted your own point
If were likely to take the 3rd choice we may as well trade down if we still get the same franchise guy

Agree. I’m taking Hollands with pick 1. If scans all good pre draft why not. He has started running as part of his rehab.

I'm surprised that Phillips keep falling under the radar .. I'm not convinced he's right the right choice for Adelaide, however I'm sure he'd be a great fit for a top pick for 1 of the Melbourne clubs
Wouldn't say falling under the radar. He's been included in what recruiters (according to Callum Twomey) are calling the "Fantastic Five", along with McDonald, Hollands, Thilthorpe and Grainger-Barras. That is, the five best available players. For the most part, Phillips hasn't been talked up on our forum, but still very highly rated.

I put it to you guys this way. Assume all these guys were from Mars, solely on watching them play, where does Thilthorpe rank in this draft?
Imo he isn't top5.
Which is the point that I've been making...

I think you'll find we're in violent agreement.

Yeah .. but no one is really talking about him. DGB is a player I can see with a huge upside. Could honestly see Sydney or Hawthorn taking him at at 3 or 4. Thilthorpe won't make it past Essendon's picks

I already feel sorry for the kid we take at #1.

The pressure this board alone will put on them will be astronomical. There's now way they can live up to it.

Yes but he's one of your favourites and we know how biased you can be.
What the hell are you on about Shorty?

Hollands is universally considered in the top 3 in this draft and most would probably have him as the stand out No.1 if it wasn't for the ACL and the fact is his rehab has gone without so much as a hitch and he's already back running. That's not bias he is pure and simple a class prospect and I've been fortunate enough to see it in the flesh several times.

In my mind, to pull off a huge draft win this year, we need to get another pick in the top-5. I don't think it's the be-all and end-all - 1,9,22,23 - is a very nice draft hand, but it would be nice.

I can't see Sydney or North budging on their picks, but is there any possibility these could happen...?

We give 9, 22, & 23 to Hawks (3,099 points) for 4 & 24 (2,819 points)

Or

We give 9, 22 & our 2021 R3 pick (approx 2,700 points) to Suns for 5 & 37 (2,361 points)

Something along these lines. More 2021 picks could be factored in.

We need to give overs, to either of these clubs, to have any chance. That's what Port did to move up (to get Rozee).

Note: Not interested in any of Essendon's picks, as the players we should be aiming for, will likely be gone by then.

I like the sound of the Hawthorn move. AFL.com keep going on that GC are trying to move up the order, so I don’t think that move is realistic.

This is why is a no brainer for me to bid on JUH with Pick 1. He’s widely tipped as the best player in the draft and the AFL media types who whack the Crows at every opportunity (which lets be honest, seems like most of them) will be in a race to declare our number 1 selection as a flop. “I can’t believe the Crows selected “player” when they could have blah, blah, blah”. You could set your watch to it.

Logic suggests that McDonald is best placed to make an immediate impact but being from WA with West Coast’s track record of getting top WA talent home you’d want to be confident he’s not a flight risk.

Hollands (ACL) and Tilthorpe (developing tall) will probably take more time to make an impact at senior level... but would a hungry media/desperate fan base give them that time before they’re declared a miss?

I think for a number of reasons being a Pick 1 comes with pressure at the best of times but even with that, being selected as Crows number one pick will take it up a notch.

Interesting choice and interesting times ahead.

Any way we can get 2&3?

trade 1 & 22 to NM for 2&11
9+11 to Syd for 3

we turn 1, 9, 22 into 2,3

take thill & Hollands
Just a question..why would sydney trade down when those picks are likely to get eaten up by a campbell bid?

And the other is why do north do that if they get 1 of thilthorpe or mcdonald at 2 anyway.

Sydney 'might' be tempted to trade up if they were 100% wanting mcdonald AND thought that we or north would be likely to bid on campbell. Then a deal of 1 and 23 might get 3 and their 2021 1st but that is a big if

Where would someone of his calibre sit in say comparing to the 2018 draft. Is he as highly thought of as walsh, smith rankine etc?..

Top 5, he's ridiculously underrated on here. He was very much in top 3 calculations before he got hurt this year.
Agreed.

Bigfooty has become this echo chamber on Thilthorpe.

He was comfortably top three coming into this year, and had shown more over a longer period that McDonald. Presumably the recruiters are considering more than McDonald's five good games this year.

I'm not going to say I know who the ideal person to select is, but it would be crazy to dismiss Thilthorpe, based on assuming he would do more as a tall in a terrible sebior side this year.
