16. Reef MCINNES

Clubs:
Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Midfielder

Size: 193cm/86kg

Bio: The Collingwood Next Generation Academy prospect broke the record in the 20m sprint, recording a time of 2.78s. However, it won’t officially count due to the large wind behind Victorian players at the combine. The Charger can play anywhere on the ground but looms as a midfielder down the track. He does need to improve his endurance, but his tank is sure to grow after a few pre-seasons at the next level. He is one of the better stoppage midfielders and is willing to back himself to step around opponents and get the ball moving forward.

Where will he end up? Collingwood are set to match a bid on McInnes somewhere in the first round, but Derek Hine and Ned Guy might need to be creative to move some of their selections given they currently hold Pick 14 and 16. Adelaide (9) and GWS (10, 13 and 15) appear to be two clubs thinking about bidding.

So they think we Match any Bid but we might have to do some Trading IF we want another 1st Round Pick

Twomey says we may not match a bid on McInnes if it falls to Adelaide's pick 9 (shifted to 11 after JUH and Campbell bids).

Twomey is off his nut - there's no way Perkins slides to 16 and a bid for Jones doesn't come until 17.

Adelaide bidding on an unproven Reef with pick 11 hoping that we don't match against rather than taking one of Cox, Perkins, Macrae, Chapman, or even Powell (paying the stay home tax on Powell a bit so maybe not him) just isn't going to happen.

Even though we miss out on Reef in Cal’s PD, I don’t mind the players that he chose for us. Obviously I’d be disappointed not matching, but I feel with the million times he’s been asked in the last week where Reef is going, he’s giving us a look at what can be the alternative.

Kinda think the Crows, GWS and Melbourne are the ones we need to have some pre-arranged conversations with.

As an example if Crows bid on Reef at say 9 do we look to trade 14 to one of GWS or Melbourne for a future 1st and use 16 on Reef. We then trade those two back in with GWS and Melbourne for 15 and 19? Still gets us 3 picks inside 20-25.

Or if Crows don’t want Reef then the pick of 9 and 23 for 14 and 16 gives them two mid teen picks for SA kids like Powell and Cook. We can then look to trade our future first maybe for one of GWS’s picks, 13 or 15 if no bid for Reef.

I’d even consider something like our future first and one of the future seconds for Melbourne’s 19 and 28 if they want to shift back. I just sense value in some of these 15-30 picks.

Perkins is Simmlar to Reef

Agreed. and it is almost impossible to do an accurate Phantom anyway this year given I am pretty sure there will be an incredible amount of live trading which sees picks going here there and everywhere
