I would be very, very shocked if we got 4 top twenty picks. Not only would we have to trade away a future first and future second (and possibly be 1k points short for Daicos mind you).

Unfortunately for us the Giants have a lot of picks around the mark and they too are planning on taking 4-5 AFAIK. So I doubt they will trade away anything too high.

I tend to agree. But they might like the idea of switching that pick in the middle of pies picks into 2021. Would no doubt b higher (hopefully not though ) but if they see it that way would be a win win. Especially if no one has bud on a reef yet. Pies get 3 end of first round picks! And then Reef!!

Elijah Taylor

I know the stigma domestic abuse carries. But hear me out.

Swans have attracted some flak for not providing sufficient support network for him prior to the assault.

He’s staying in Victoria to play VFL and resurrect his career. We rookie list him and give him a chance to save his career and provide us with a long felt need in our forward line.

Could be a good PR exercise for the Pies by helping a troubled indigenous player and it ticks the Harry O’Brien box with Collingwood lacking indigenous players on our list

Taylor can earn his respect back over time and use his status to speak at indigenous youth programs of his mistakes and educate them why domestic abuse is abhorrent, how it ruins lives including the victim and the perpetrator.

Or not.

I’m sure Richmond will sail in as the white knight and recruit another gun player for bugger all.

No way in hell, an ordinary player and a prick of a person.

Yeah, I would be staying away from someone who belted his girlfriend for an hour. Punching and with a belt. I dont care if she hit him first.

Just did a phantom draft for my fantasy footy mates. My idea was to hold on to 2021 until we can lock in 3 picks before Reef. Hence trading with GWS at that stage pick 18 to go 4 picks in a row to round out the top 20. Here’s how it went.
1 Macdonald crows
2 JUH dogs
3 Hollands north
4 DGB swans
5 Phillips hawks
6 Thilthorpe suns
7 Perkins dons
8 Reid dons
9 Cox dons
10 Campbell swans
11 Henry crows
12 Jones port
13 Macrae giants
14 Chapman north
15 Carrol freo
16 Laurie giants
17 Bruhn pies
18 Cook pies
19 Callow pies
20 McInnes pies

Be nice. I’ve left a lot of players out yes and would love to add Ford and yes swap out Callow if your not a fan. I like him. Could be Jack Darling could be Matty Lloyd. Roll the dice!

the main question is though could anyone seriously bud on a Reef before pick 17. Maybe Laurie’s pick but I reckon the others are safe.

Agree with the trade of our future 1st to GWS for their (currently) 13 or 15 on the proviso that Reef is still there and GWS agree not to select with whichever pick we don’t trade for.

As for who is left/who we take for the 3 picks before Reef - no idea!

Even had no Footy Training and Played no Footy for 2 Years and is 34 Years Old?

He played in 2019 just not seniors. Covid prevented him playing in 2020 after the Power withdrew from the sanfl. Made a miraculous comeback in 2018 after a career best 2017. Who know, he might yet have some footy in him.

Good luck to him. Will be handy experienced depth and leadership on the rookie list after the retirements of Watts and Westhoff.

Could we get 9 and a future 2nd (Daicos points) out of Essendon for 14 and our future first?

The Dons Reef interest to me is a ploy to try and get our future first.

If they don’t bid on Reef at 7 or 8 we trade for 9 warding off a bid there. We get a top 10 pick and get a play on a quality tall like Reid or Cox. If a bid then comes after that but before 16 we just use that to match for Reef.

If we get past 16 without a bid we then use all those late picks with points to match.

The extra 2nd next year just adds to 2021 Daicos points.

Dons still get 3 picks inside 15 & have two firsts next year to continue to list rebuild or have another crack at Dunkley. Seems like a win for all.

Hard to know what GWS might do. They have multiple high draft picks every year because they keep bringing them in and trading them for more because they can’t afford to keep them all. Shame they don’t have their own academy prospect this year.

Three top 20 picks before a bid match for Reef in the early 20's is still possible if we can negotiate a trade for another first round pick this year and we get lucky with nobody bidding on Reef earlier.

The phantom draft above was based on that idea of securing another first round pick via trade and the logic around insulating us against a bid on Reef by getting three consecutive picks in the late teens is one strategy which might help delay a bid on Reef.

Looks good and Bruhn falling to us would be the steal of the draft, but I'd take a punt on someone like Ford and then look to trade back into the second or early third round if Callow (or even Baldwin) is there at spot we want to take them at.

The other thing to remember is that we're likely not out of the draft even after picking up 4 players early so there is still the prospect of snaring a couple of project KPP's towards the back end of the draft (I suspect this is what we actually have in mind given that we're likely to miss out on the top 6-8 KPP's in the draft).

If that happens then we could still take a Henry or Chapman. If we don’t like them we just take best available any position. I think Dons will go a mid and a tall. Like Perkins and one of Cox/Reid. I’d still be trying to get into the top 10. More chance of getting a tall there than at 14 or 16.

Yep I’d love Ford. Swap him for Callow. Trade back to get Callow. Or Baldwin. I’d like to get a key FF from the draft. I know he has his doubters but if we get Callow I hope he turns into a +60 goal forward in a year or 2.

He’s been playing SANFL Dave. Still, he’s been out of the AFL system for 2 years, and was completely cooked when he finished at Collingwood, so it’s a pretty odd move on Ports part. Certainly not the master stroke Timmy is making it out to be.
