This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

That quite a few of our clearance mids are in their early 20's or younger doesn't help.
That's true, but consider this also - quite a bit of our score against was from opposition clearances and we already have an elite score against average. If we win more ball out of the stoppages we don't need to kick more goals, because we won't be giving up as many from leaking clearances.

It seems to me that it would be an area where the inclusion of another elite midfielder would tip the balance quite significantly. Serong getting better, Brayshaw getting better, Cerra playing more inside and getting better, even Valente stepping in and being handy will help.

If we win those contests, or more specifically we don't lose them, then we will win many more games.

Why waste your time being rude? State the facts, tell me I’m mistaken, move on.
Ok, so 198cm winger, who can play forward. Still think he’s worth a rookie spot.

Which of the Facts from his last 10 Games do you want to talk about

I thought his GF game was great, but if I had to pick for Fremantle FC a player from South Freo it would be Shannon Neale. More upside potential.

Only reason to pick Strom would be if one of our KPF went down and we needed a back up mid season.

Cooda, Wooda, Shooda.

If only we had Andrew Mcloud, Mathew Lloyd, Scott Lucas...

If only we used pick 52 of the 2006 Draft to pick Robbie Gray instead of Brock O’Brien...

Whos to blame for this? Neesham, Hatt, AFL, Smart, Lloyd, Rosich, Bell.... someone needs to pay!

I wish we could get over this constant rear view outrage. We have a very good developing list, a very good developing coach. We have as much chance to create a dynasty as Hawthorn did in 2006 or Richmond in 2016.

By all means we should discuss what to do with our current list, our current coaching panel, our current draft picks, but please get over this retrograde outrage.

Was just enquiring about our pick 5 after listening to the Duff and Quarters pod, wasn't a regret melt.

Tbh hawks did alright only notable KPF from 2013 on was Roughead along with Ruck/forward Hale unless i am mistaken.
Gunston and Breust kicked 50+ in 2014 and 2015. Rioli had a 40+ goal season in 2015 as well.

Who do we have? Taberner has 40 goals in him with a full season. Walters when he doesn't get too much of midfield time.

Btw even Sam Mitchell had a higher goals/game averageeven in 2014 then quite a few of our midfielders this year. And he kicked 3 (THREE!) goals...

Looks like he was wrong.

Fremantle
traded pick 6 and future third-round pick to Port Adelaide in exchange for picks 11, 23, 30 and 49.

Sam Mayes and pick 5 (Brisbane Lions) traded to Port Adelaide in exchange for pick 6, pick 35 and future third-round pick.

Lachie Neale and pick 30 (Fremantle) traded to Brisbane Lions in exchange for picks 6, 19 and 55.

Rory Lobb, pick 14, 43 and 47 (GWS) traded to Fremantle in exchange for pick 11 and 19.

So we just got our pick 6 back again we could have had pick 6, 14, 43 and 47. So B.King and Jackson Hately/Jordan Clark.

Nah he’s right if we just traded Neale and sat pat with 5 and 6

No Hogan or Lobb though

Yeah i agree what i am saying is if Tabs stays fit and we can get a couple medium forwards (Gunston and Breust) to fire up for example Sturt and Fyfe/Mundy as well as Walters and Henry then things might look better than it feels like right now.

Basically i am saying Hawks biggest goal kickers were often the mediums so maybe we will be okay with just Tabs and/or Lobb.

Man, dog with a bone.
The bolded part would have sufficed, and I would have gone - fair enough. Maybe add ‘he played on the wing most of 2021’, and I would have gone - thanks for the info. I thought otherwise, but I clearly I was mistaken. Learnt something I didn’t know before.
But seems we both agree that at some point he could be a useful player to have on the rookie list. Personally I think a back-up KPF would useful from Rd 1, ready to go anytime up until mid season if Tabs or Lobb goes down. Could turn out to be shit, but could be useful.
Wouldn’t be happy to see him move to Peel, but it might only be for one season, or he could be good enough to stay on the list for a few years while we develop out non-existent young key forward.

I think with a little more improvement we can kick enough goals to win consistentl. Tabs is a 2 goals a game FF. Sturt, Walters, Shultz have all shown their talent around goals.

The improvement needs to come from Lobb (those yips need work), Fyfe (If he is slated to stay forward more you know he will work on his set shots like a true professional), hopefully Henry comes on like we all though he would, then some more goals from the midfield as they press forward.

The ingredients are there.

I agree. Thinking about, how many teams this year had two consistent KPF’s kicking goals. Apart from the Eagles I can’t think of any and even Kennedy/Darling had their down days. Also don’t say Richmond as Jack hardly got a kick this year and we can draft anybody to do dummy leads. Most teams had one (or none) key forwards that consistently performed this year.

The difference between Fremantle's average score per game (50.9 points) and the top eight (66.6) and the top four (69.66) is three more goals per game.

One more goal per quarter and we average enough to sit comfortably in the top four.

Easiest way to get that goal is to win more stoppages, we don't get the ball inside fifty enough.
Another way of looking at it is to beat the best our scoring needs to improve by 40%, and that’s against the top teams who will inevitably be harder to score against. We’re heading in the right direction but we desperately need outside speed to complement the good work our boys are doing on the inside, but also as a defence chasing down opposition outside players.
Walters is ageing so realistically we only have Tabs as a good bet to kick 40+ goals. We’re short one or two more ‘natural forwards’. Currently we only really have Walters.

Quicker ball movement, earlier turn over will isolate all our forwards & give them room to move.
Slow movement has allowed opposition to set up to easily behind the ball, crowding our forward 50 & creating contests. Which all coaches want in their D50.
Expect a big change in this for next year with a change of personal (tall defenders) & training structure.

genuine question, do u see cripps coming home from Carlton in 2022 going to freo?

Who knows besides Cripps

We are all sore ATM from a disastrous Hogan trade , do we get straight back on the horse a trade out a couple of drafts for him ?

He’s no Hogan but he’s been a warrior and may pay the price in his later years so it’s no ‘must do’ but there’s a whole year of footy to go

We started the trade period with pick #6 and then nothing until pick around #85.

We traded #6 and a future 3rd to Port for #11, #23, #30 and #49

This got me thinking, about how we can go up the draft board without a young star departing. Could we package up #12, Future 2nd (2021), #32 +(likely some steak knives - we know what Dodoro is like) for Essendon pick #6 & #67. It might help Bombers with some other complex deals.

Gives us #6, #55, #67.

Then what do we do with 6? Aim higher or best available.
