Dunno about elite, but he's handy.

He won't fall into our 'star power' or top 6 category I wouldn't have thought.

Never been AA and hasn't finished higher than 5th in the BnF after 8 years in the system. He'll compliment our stars very nicely.

Definitely elite and in our top 5 IMO.

AA, B&F results aren't overly relevant.

I really can’t see Jack cracking it at the club and asking to leave. I had a cousin who played school football with Ben and said there is no chance any club would have drafted him if he was not a Silvagni. We gave him a crack and if he wants to keep going I am sure we will offer him a VFL spot with a view to promoting him if he improves.

He's top 50 in the AFL Player Ratings, 5th in a BnF for the Giants is a great result. Think about how many A-Graders they've had during his time:
Callan Ward
Jeremy Cameron
Heath Shaw
Toby Greene
Lachie Whitfield
Josh Kelly
Adam Treloar
Dylan Sheil
Stephen Coniglio
Ryan Griffen

I'm sure there's many more I'm forgetting too.

I think Williams slots in to our top few players, probably behind the likes of Cripps, Weitering and Walsh. I really think that our center bounce team of Cripps, Walsh and Williams is unreal. We can also rotate in players like Martin and Setterfield. Really exciting.

Yeah fair play.

Go Zac.

So with projected media lists to be 38 & 2 our list signings don't add up?

We start with 46 + 3 Draftees + 3 Possible Trades or FA's.. So we would need to cut 12

The 10 signing today Plus the signing of (Listed OOC Footy Wire)
Likely - Betts,Williamson, Setterfield
Possibly - Macreadie. Phillips, Newnes & Kennedy

Only leaves possible
Kruezer (RET)
Simpson (RET)
B Silvagni (Delist)
Lang (Delist)
O'Dwyer (Delist)
Goddard (Delist)
Moore
Polson
Owies

That could only mean the club either
  • Know the list cuts are not going to be that bad
  • We will be inactive in the trade period :'(
  • Will not have to draft 3
  • Players are going to be traded.

We only have to draft max 2, as Gibbo was upgraded to the senior list. If they do cut list sizes then surely the reduce the mandatory draft pick requirements, probably to 2, so 1 for us.

Confuses me as there is definitely a role for him at Carlton as a pressure forward or tagger. Not sure what is to be gained for him leaving unless a bigger contract ??

Would think it is most likely his Dad getting sacked and his Brother getting delisted... Probably just wants some clean air and to start again.

Hope we can convince him to stay

Best guess is this is the first wave of delistings.
Could be a logistics issue with the exit interviews.
Could be conditional on other player movement.
Highly doubt this is it.

Not for this to be a game, but in terms of further players to be de-listed, I'd have it in this order -

1. Polson - Sadly there's little more he can add if we do attain Saad...and even if not.
2. Owies - No need to rush him off, as he can have a third year on the Cat B list, but purely as a player, I'd have him next to go.
3. Betts - If we get anyone that can remotely play a good crumbing forward role....sorry Eddie.
4. Moore - I still think there are possibilities there but not forward.
5. Phillips - I'd be sorry to see him go, but I feel he may take too long to make good. If we can wait though....
6. Macreadie - He may well be first to go, but I just think there may be some regret somewhere down the line, should his body hold up.

Just on this, Williams is absolutely an elite footballer.

Whether he becomes an elite midfielder remains to be seen of course.
What makes you think he's elite, or perhaps how many elite players do you think there are? To me he's probably on par with someone like Doc, which I wouldn't call elite. Perhaps I haven't seen enough of him.

Gibbons certainly covers more ground, but physicality?
And given how much we struggle with mid-forward transition, I'd take Samo's ball use way ahead of what Gibbo provides.

I think we'd all prefer Samo to be in that spot - ditto LOB for Newnes, Dow/Stocker for Ed - the theme is the same across the park. We're not a development squad anymore.

Well, Samo is clearly in our best team. He's played 80 out of a maximum possible 83 games.
He's not a development player, I just don't think he's at his best in the backline.

This can of worms. It’s like the A grader B grader talk.
For me Williams is far from elite, I wouldn’t have him in the top 50 players/prospects and i’d only call the top 20 or so elite. Others would only call the top 10.
In saying that I think he will be by far and away the best get in the league this offseason, all things considered.

I’d love to find a player 28+ with big game experience that could really help stead the side when the big momentum swings are happening. The 5 goal plus swings killed us. There isn’t many players that would fit the bit, but we should throw the kitchen sink at them.

maybe Luke Parker?
Shawn Higgins is gettable but maybe not the big game experience
Liam Shiel?

Would say yes to Parker
