AS IF YOU CAMPAIGNERS NEED ANOTHER JACK FFS! TAKE CASTAGNA!
Lonie gone then you'd think.

Wasn't keen to trade him unless we could upgrade him and I think Higgins will be a better footballer long term.
mate he's a gun.

was very good at the start of this year but doesn't fit our chaos bullshit force ball forward at all costs insane pressure cooker forward line. emergence of bolton took away his midfield rotation and was never gonna hack it in the castagna role. when he was playing half forward in 2018, he was getting 18-25 possies and good for a goal a game. as an 18 year old.

my issue with him though is his ceiling. is he ever going to be better than he was in 2018? don't think he has capacity for full-time mid and isn't quuuuuite quick enough to play forward pocket. so the goal I'd say is to build him an immense tank and run him around the forward flank all day a bit like Lambert. issue is, we have Lambert at richmond.

very good get. we are funding your forward line. ffs

Can you find us a Dusty?

Pretty sure he says in effect that they know the basics of the offer. They won’t know what it fully looks like until we lodge.

This really comes down to keeping a player you told to go because you thought he would get paid more and get you pick 2.

Again, in 5 years time when that club thinks they might contend again - he won’t be leading that charge. Pick 20 might.

Same went for us with Goddard and with Dal. You either commitment to a rebuild. Not half ass it and dip a toe in when it suits your narrative. Sometimes it works other times you take your pick and you move on with planting the seeds for the future.
Difference is we were kinda forced into it with Goddards and Dals salaries, not sure adelaide are in the same boat. we also got band 1 for goddard.

best i can do is ryan garthwaite.

cmon, he's 5 centimetres taller, out of contract, also wears a four on his jumper, what's not to like?

We could of signed either. Same boat as crouch and the crows.

We didn’t and they haven’t. Now there supporters are upset it will most likely be pick 20 as compensation. It’s what happens with free agency. Pick a lane as a football club and stay in it.

You can’t choose to rebuild and then cry over compensation and try keep a player. It is absolutely bonkers list management.

Can we just have the original?

To me Higgins is like an Izak Rankine. Flashy player with huge upside. Won’t be as good I don’t think but bloody exciting to watch.

Speaking on AFL Exchange's hour on Trade Radio, AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey said the under-contract Jack Higgins, who has reportedly requested a trade, could fit into a team as a midfielder.

"It's going to take a reasonable trade deal to make it happen. He probably just got overtaken a bit by Jake Aarts late in the season, he was injured as well in the lead-up to the finals with a calf," Twomey said.

"He was kicking bags of four or five and was clearly one of the better players on the park (in scratch matches).

"St Kilda has been closely linked a few weeks back and when it was put to them, it has been strongly denied.

"I think he's definitely a valuable player because of his hard running power. He sees himself as a midfielder."

mate of mine bought the dan butler carlton draft tshirt - https://carltondrafttshirts.com/collections/frontpage/products/butler-tee - as a way to say thanks for danos. one of my favourite tshirts but geez i wish he still was a tiger.

this though has got me proper flat. word is we're holding onto aarts in preference to higgo which i don't really like the look of.

That’s awesome need to get one of these!

Dan is well loved by us already. Seems like a win win trade all round, Dan played the whole year, did brilliantly and you guys still won the flag easily in the end.

I get what you're saying but I dont think its as easy as that. Theres a lot of variables that go into it. Let's say Billings has a bid from adelaide this year, we have the capacity to match it or take pick 2, we take pick 2. Do we take it if its pick 20? I don't think so. Also adelaide have the $$$ to match, so why wouldn't they if theyre not going to get the pick they want? We didn't match goddard or dal because we didn't have the $$$ and desperately wanted their salaries off our books so I think its a poor comparison.
Easy thing to do is just pay Crouch a bit extra to make sure they don't match, I think everyone would agree its better to slightly overpay and keep our first pick.

Congrats to the St Kilda people. As a Tigers man Im disappointed that Higgo is keaving. I think its a big mistake for us at Richmond. Will be a massively bigger mistske than Dan Butler who we gave away for nothing.
Right time, right place for Saints ... Wrong time, wrong skillset for Tigers
I think long term this will be a bigger regret for you than Butler.

I don’t think giving away any of your fringe players is a “massive mistake” tbh. You have exceptional depth and still a great core that will net you probably one or two more flags at least.

highly doubt any Richmond supporter was regretting trading butler on Saturday night. ;)

he's been great. more space to run without rioli and castagna about, which allows him to show off his considerable skill. what comes with that though is that people can shut him down a touch easier, which i think started to happen later in the year, but didn't affect him hugely

Sounds like you think he's be best suited to play Dean Kent's role in our side. He'd likely be an upgrade there.

Wasn’t the part of the reason we let BJ go because we were starting a rebuild? The comparison with Billings isn’t fair either. If we didn’t see him as part of our next flag tilt would we want to get something for him to use on someone who might be part of that? Instead of keeping him for 5 years? I would say yes we would. Which is the exact Adelaide situation right now.

as far as price goes, probably a second rounder gets it done, maybe with a saints-favoured third round pick swap in there too. but you guys haven't a second or third, so maybe:

richmond get: pick 15, pick 55
st kilda get: J. Higgins, pick 32, future 2nd round.
Would happily do that deal but that values Higgins at 50ish probably too low
