So 2 weeks ago, with no crowds but all metro and regional players available, it was to much of a burden on clubs to play. Yet now, still no crowds AND no metro based players likely to be available, things are ok again? Can anyone explain how that works, or do we just need to see who South are drawn to play to work it out?

I presume the idea is to get in a round of home and away games the before finals, but if finals don't start the following week, then to me, the risk of them not happening at all is increasing.

South are getting a pasting but the majority of clubs must have been against playing matches last week for the Administration to make the decision they did. As a matter of interest can anyone list the clubs who wanted to play and those who did not? I am guessing Gisborne and Kyneton with their Melbourne based players were not keen to play.

I was more talking about a couple of weeks ago when no-one was in lockdown, meaning metro based players were available, yet the league decided not to play as it was to much of a burden on clubs. So they then missed a chance to get a round in with all players available, most other leagues jumped at the chance to play. So what, or who, drove that decision? And how do they then decide 2 weeks later that with metro locked down again that they should play?
And now we see Kyneton are forfeiting this week due to lack of players - and it sounds like the league have offered very little in terms of consultation according to the report just gone online on the Addy website.
The top 3 clubs are streets ahead - maybe just have a prelim and a GF. It would be ridiculous if they do….. but it would be on trend with the way the league operates!

Shouldn't be a problem for South, not playing in front of a crowd, they'd be used to it, they'd have to have the smallest community following I've seen

Does Sandhurst get 4 points when Kyneton forfeits this week? It would be unfair to them if they don't as they are prepared to play and would be certain winners.

Not sure why south are copping so much flak on here, I’d be very surprised if they were the only club that voted to not play a few weeks ago. The schedule is the schedule, they didn’t choose for lockdowns to happen against certain teams, at the end of the day they are 2 games clear of eaglehawk and beat them head to head, they deserve to be 5th at this stage. Also not sure why sandhurst and square didn’t cop a beating in here for playing Melbourne based players during the round where they weren’t allowed to play

My understanding was that they didn't play their Melbourne based players. Who did you believed played that were ineligible?

Surely they will get the 4 points, it’s just % they will miss out on. Though from memory last time they played Kyneton it was a much closer result than expected.

From reports, South were very vocal about not wanting to play 2 weeks ago, when metro players would have been available…. Yet were then just as vocal about being keen to play this week without metro players. Wonder why??!!

Whats the story behind Sandhurst and Square, is that fair dinkum they had metro players play the week they weren’t supposed to? If so, that seems to have slipped under the radar. Did they play each other that week? If so, it’s of less consequence (but still wrong). If they didn’t, whoever they played should be furious.

the issue isbecoming that a number of people/players do live in Melbourne for uni etc but still have home addresses as Bendigo.

there are rumours around the state of many metro based players changing their address with Vic roads in order to be able to continue to play

Yeah pretty hard to police something like that I guess, bit of a loophole that can be/has been exploited by the sounds of it!

Advertiser has has just reported BFNL season to be shorted by two weeks and finals will be a top six form over three weeks. Grand final to be September 11 or 12.

This is a sensible decision and the Administration can be congratulated for the change.

It's not a great look, is it if that's the case, we have clubs finding loopholes that could shut not only the comp down but could put towns back in lockdown

Agreed, after a few major hiccups they’ve finally made a sensible decision. That said, I hope it wasn’t based purely on senior football, and that at the very least the A grade netball was factored in when looking at the ladders and what impact it has there as well.
Now the big question…. could we see Eaglehawk win it from 6th, now that would be a talking point!!

Question time: if south and eaglehawk swapped records does anyone think the league would still choose a top 6 format?? I think we all know the answer

Lachlan Tardrew and Joel Brett

Lachie Tardrew played for sandhurst and got second best while Joel Brett played for square and kicked 7 against south who followed the rules and didn’t play their 4 Melbourne based players.

Silver are you sure of your facts here? Prior to their match against Eaglehawk, Sandhurst's coach Ask Connick stated (Bendigo Advertiser) they could select Lachie Tardrew against Eaglehawk as he actually lived in Bendigo. Ash Connick is a very reputable/respected individual in country football circles.

I don't know any thing about Joel Brett but notice he is picked again this weekend. To me it does not seem credible that a club as well run as Golden Square would, with their depth in players, unnecessarily risk their position near the top of the ladder.

I believe Lachie Tardrew is a PT in Melbourne as he plays for Collingwood Reserves. What I have heard is when that lockdown was announced as everyone was made aware the lockdown would commence at 11.59pm that night. Tardrew could not work so he returned to his residential address in Bendigo which is his parents prior to this. He was able to play because he had been back in Bendigo over the 14 days required (if you did your homework Silver you would see the BFNL did not play that weekend but did the following)
Regarding Joel Brett isn’t he a school teacher in Bendigo?

Wonder who you support 😂

Anyone got any idea what is taking the head honchos at the league so long to work out the finals format? Surely it can’t be that hard, there are probably only 2 sensible options available how can it take so long to decide? At the very least they could at least tell us the format, if grounds are a concern that can be worked out later.

also any word on whether Strath will get a game this week or have Kyneton pulled the pin again?

Can’t see Kyneton playing this weekend
