Lol seriously can we just have a ban on posting things ol clickbait Kornes says…

none of it is interesting and it’s all designed to just stir people up.

Hodgey wants a new rule! Hodgey gets a new rule.

No more clickbait shit from Cornes in here.

Also:
Can we also threadban Rendell quotes. The bloke is senile.
Done ✔️

Anyone know if Hawks have any interest in Bailey Williams from the Eagles? I know Max Lynch is also another option if he’s interested. We cannot afford letting Cegs go if we don’t have a backup option especially if Reeves or Big boy get injured

Pretty sure R&L mentioned him early in the year as one of a heap we’d be monitoring.

Sounding less likely we will involved in big name trades

What we have is cap space and a list that doesn’t justify the minimum cap. What we need are draft picks.

We should be positioning ourselves to take advantage of that situation by:
- Paying some contracted players to play elsewhere in exchange for better draft picks (ie Ceglar to Dogs); and

- Accepting short term salary dumps from other sides with tight caps if it can also strengthen our draft hand

Basically pay money for draft picks

Did you even LOOK at the graphic?
I did, but we traded with Melbourne not Essendon. So I’m not sure the graphic is right.

As for our Smith pick I had another look and I think the Smith pick actually became 42 on draft night and we packaged it with 41 for pies second. So I was wrong about the Downie bid.

We were surprisingly active on draft night with picks swaps, will be interesting if we do the same again.

Are we over playing the WCE links because of Mitchell and Hickmott?

Don't recall us getting many Richmond players when McRae joined.
A good chance, given that it’s likely for them to go through a rebuild in the next year or 2. We had McRae for one year only and Richmond were in the window to win the flag this year when the season started.

I like this idea. See a bit of it in the NBA.

GWS should trade pick 2 + conigs for pick 5...
They might not like it right now, but when it allows them to spend $$ to keep their young guns in the next few years theyll pat themselves on the back.

I just want access to Callaghan haha

For this to work we'd probably need to throw in a future 2nd for optics - They would be hoping that Gibcus or Andrew will be available at that pick.

Yeah you are probably right. On face value, i think the GWS supporters would blow up at this trade.. Not foreseeing how beneficial it would be for them in the years to come. Plus they still bring in a high quality player at 5.

We had pick 41, 42 and 43 as we had essendon’s 3rd rounder which we got from pies. 42 (Smith compensation) and 41 went to pies and were used to match McInnes.

43 we traded to St Kilda which became 45, Tom Higmore.

We then traded for dees pick 46 and selected Brockman.

Wikipedia has some of the picks wrong for where they came from.

Perhaps, but from what I have read here and elsewhere, it looks an awful lot like Smith got traded for brockman's pick. I also watched the draft live and didn't see anything to suggest other wise, but I might have been dreaming at the time.

I don't think the AFL trading landscape has reached the maturity of the NBA where salary dumps or 'buying picks' are a thing - I hope it does soon as I think it adds more layers to trading and list management. However, I feel we'll probably (sadly) just end up spending a huge amount of money on fringe players like we have for a long time for now.
