If he improved by the same amount as Neale, Lyons, Cameron, etc. did after joining us he'd be worth the $800k but plodding away in a rabble like Carlton he's not worth much.

I think a key difference is that in each of those cases we picked up a player and played them where they'd had their best results, just as a locked #1 option in their role.

Carlton picked up a player that had been played through the middle to limited effect, had shown his best ability attacking off the back of the contest from the half-back line at speed rather than starting in the middle (and GWS had tried him there a few times), and thought "no, everyone else is wrong!"

????????

I mean sure I may have misinterpreted your comment but seems to me like you are saying we couldn't have Bolton and say Linc +Kiddy in the team. Whereas I think he'd be more of a threat to Dev as he plays far more midfield minutes than the three you listed.

In any case it doesn't matter as it won't happen!
It’s a question of how do fit him in to our best 22, and how many small forwards, half forwards, forward mids can you play and keep in the reserves.

Plus there’s also the contract cost and impact on the list there. He’d be on as much money as the three players I mentioned, combined.

We’d be playing Zorko, Rayner, Bailey and Bolton, all rotating between mid a half forward. There wouldn’t be room in the best 22 for another small forward, apart from Cameron.

All futile thoughts anyway imo.
He ain’t coming up here.

I liked the idea of paying Williams 650k to be an attacking half back. 800-900k to continue to play half-back after not being fit enough to play midfield is certainly a bold list management decision.
Still think the stupidest part was getting both him and Saad at the same time. Two running half-backs at the same time is weird recruitment

Will Ashcroft would be our first top 10 pick connected to Us ever Academy or father/son wise the closest was Hipwood who was nominated at pick 14 by Richmond

Ashcroft looks top 3. Would be so sweet finally getting a free shot at one of those top 3 types like so many before us for nothing. Can’t wait.

Tom Mitchell, Lachie Neale, Jarryd Lyons together - might win all the stoppage ball and one paced won't be a big problem then. Thoughts?

He wants to win premierships and hence prefer a trade to Richmond. If the Top 8 Vic clubs can't fit him in, we might be an option with Hawks taking bulk of salary and Mitchell ok to move interstate.

Come to think of it is he the only father son ever to not go to a club by personal choice. 18 years old and too good to go to the mighty lions hey- what a flog.

Blakey too, stayed with academy. There's a few out there.

Didn't he just not want to leave Melbourne?
That is correct.

Murph was fine with his son going to Brisbane but Marc decided he didn't want to leave his family. He was just a kid ,not arrogant or anything else , it was too big a wrench for him.

Richmond offered him a bucketload to go there just before they became dominant and out of loyalty stayed at Carlton which cost him 3 flags.

Ironically his father could've gone to Hawthorn under father/son and when he met up with them they were all private schoolboys and he felt more comfortable at Fitzroy. So he also cost himself 3 flags.

Both the Murphy's were great players, to think Marc wouldn't have been a big success at the Lions is just a bit ignorant of his achievements. He was captain of Carlton for 6 years . Pretty tough gig.

I listen to a podcast called “Two Minute Warning” and the other day Xavier Ellis mentioned the name of a player who I reckon would be a great pick up for us - Jack Graham. Ellis suggested that the Suns should throw $650k at him.

Apparently Graham is contracted to Richmond for two years but Ellis seems to think there is the possibility of him moving clubs.

22 years old, two flags, ave 7 tackles & 19 disposals this season.

Big body, superb kick, very good aerobically, runs fast all day: on the Richmond board’s Jack Graham thread there’s a comment detailing his running stats, which are very impressive.

Slightly dicky shoulder.

Would have more CPs and CBA’s if Cotchin, Prestia, et al were not ahead of him in the pecking order. Consequently plays HFF but in my opinion should be in the guts.

What do the experts in here think? 650k, a first rounder, and a future 2nd?

PS: I admit to knowing virtually nothing about salary caps, trading contracted players, how it all works, and so on.
