Jacob Hopper anyone?

https://sydneynewstoday.com/contrac...-harry-mckay-bruce-jake-koroja-shniji/210983/

Giants midfielder Jacob Hopper isn’t in a hurry to re-contract with the club and will postpone contract negotiations until the end of the season.

Another option could be Sam Petrevski-Seton, maybe he could fulfil his potential with us.
I would love us to have a go at SPS, but where do we play him?

He’s a natural mid, or half forward who was being played out of position as a back flanker.

But I would prefer SPS playing as a back flanker, instead of Ah Chee.

Would certainly be adding more competition for spots.

Carlton have really stuffed up the development of a lot of their kids.

SPS, Dow, O’Brien and Stocker all should have played many more games than they have, and they should be playing in their preferred positions.

As it is, they get put in, don’t perform well in an underperforming team, then dropped.

There’s been no continuity for them, no chance to learn from their mistakes as they mature.

Gave up a fair bit for Stocker too so lots of pressure on the kid

On SPS from memory he was a Lions fan in his draft year

Zorko and Mitch Robbo aging so SPS could be part of the mid/fwd rotation group.

You'd also think SPS would come reasonably cheap ie. late 2nd rounder, with his form he couldn't expect a lengthy contract or big money either now that we're a destination club:) and don't have to pay overs to get players here.

You never know what could happen, Lachie Neale coming to us was an unlikely thought at first, I'd be surprised if we haven't at least had a chat with Hopper's and/or other top talents managers and sold them on the idea of a move to the Sunshine State to a club in its flag window.

We don’t have any Long Sleeve Guernseys.

In regards to possible trades etc one has to take into account our teams ‘need’ and ‘want’ for contested ball. If a player is unable to win their own ball they're not for our team. Add to this their ability to tackle. Therefore players such as Billings and SPS are not what you would say are a Brisbane Lions type of player.

Furthermore I do not honestly see the appeal for players to go to Carlton. I’m old enough to remember the dominance and arrogance the club had once but that is long gone.

I rate our list management and drafting. We have made a few mistakes but hit the mark on most. I will back in what they do list management wise but I think we need to target the draft with our two first rounders.

I hope we are looking at Joel Amartey from the Swans a ruck forward but he could become anything
Games 2 -
Age 22 next year
Height 197 cm
Weight 96 kg
Out of contract this year (according to footywire)
Just happened to see his two games and he looks the Goods to me pun intended
He was taken at pick 28 in the 2017 Rookie Draft so a fringe pick by the Swans
Anyone else happen to see him play

I've mentioned him a couple of times over the last few years, liked the look of him in the NEAFL pre Covid.

Can stick a mark, competes well on the wing and forward, goal kicking is a bit iffy.
Not sure if he's an upgrade on Fullarton tbh.

SPS hasn’t come on at all. Do not want.

Doesn’t have the hunger.
Yeah, I am surprised his name keeps bobbing up as a trade target. Surely, he's a chance of being delisted? Talent is seductive, I suppose, and he's not short of that. I was pretty keen on him in his draft year but I'm not sure he's much further along as a footballer than he was two years ago. In fact, statistically (and I know his role has changed), 2019 was his high water mark. We're pretty flush with HFF/mid types anyway (both quantity and quality).

As a junior SPS was a good tackler and played through the midfield and a capable contested player.

I believe what he’s producing at the moment is as much on Carlton and what he’s being asked to do.

I know this is stating the bleeding obvious but geez Hopper would be a good target. Would round out our young midfield perfectly.

As long as we can then transition from Lyons, Robinson, Mathieson, etc. to get more speed and skill then we'd have a nicely balanced midfield. Plus a top 10 in the league ruck would be handy

What’s he like as Ruck cover though? The only ruck/forward we should be looking at is CCJ if he’s interested in leaving Richmond

Looks like any other 22 yo ruck cover. Young, athletic but at this stage can easily get outbodied by a mature ruck.

Needs another 2 years in system to mature.

There is no hopper rumour, just wishful thinking as he has put contract talks off until the end of the season.

If he decided to leave I don't think we could compete salary wise.

That’s probably right but I’m often surprised by cap availability. A world where Geelong pick up Cameron and Collingwood dump salary means I keep an open mind.

Seems like we never can compete salary wise, yet the big Vic clubs always seem to be the destination & can always find room in the cap no matter how many other big name players they sign up.

** Note ** Clearly Collingwood went too far & couldn't make it work lol. Without a sponsor like VISY they couldn't source big enough brown paper bags so shit hit the fan.

At present ruck cover to Hickey but has only played 2 games
I just like the way he goes about his footy.
I think he could play elsewhere but just an opinion on his limited games at AFL level

Agree on Dow.

Just looking at the Carlton thread and speaking to a few people in the know there he's a bit on the nose and they regard him as disappointing.

I think he has a lot of talent. Worth paying up for him if he was interested.
