Pretty grim reading overall but 2016-17 stand out like dog testicles as great to really good drafts, apart from that not too much to get excited about other than 2000 Ash, 2008 Richy and Hippy in 2015..... Brennan 2002 and Luey 2006 are passes but didn't quite live up to the hype.

Totally agree on Brennan super talented I was there the night he kicked 7 goals against Collingwood coming away from the game thinking we’re just got the next Jonathan Brown

Getting 2 of Goater/Wilmot/Chesser would seem a good outcome to me based on the highlight packages. Think we need to bolster our running flanker/outside mid types.
Hopefully Blake Coleman can be our next up and coming future small forward.

Reading different predictions - the question around JVR seems to come a lot to what Freo and Richmond do around Amiss. If Freo take Amiss then every thinks Richmond will want JVR between our picks. If Richmond get Amiss (or another tall earlier) then most consider they will go small between our picks

Seems the top 14 are a fair bit better than the rest. Are we just unlucky or are our recruiters a bit average?

Haven’t really had a great draft haul since 2016
I agree there's a little drop off however there is still good talent between 15-25, don't see what our recruiters have to do with it but it's still a good draft to have two top 20 picks.

Do you wait until the third or fourth quarter of the game to start forming an opinion of how it's going?

I can't switch my mind off to blissful ignorance that easy. Not sure what you're even doing in this thread. Might want to uncover the 2017 draft thread

I certainly don't form an opinion of how the game is going before it starts.

I'm here because I like to read informed opinion. What amuses (for want of a better term) is people casting judgement before they've seen anything more than a highlights package. Nothing wrong with getting a general idea of player from reading draft profiles, but all they are a general overview and nothing to form a concrete view one way of another.

There will be very good long term players taken after the first round and there will be ordinary players/complete busts taken in the first round and vice versa... we place our trust in Conole, Ambrogio and co.

Man can't believe we missed out on the likes of Gysberts Lucas Rohan Butcher and Moore and got stuck with Fyfe - random Freo fan 2009

Knightmare 's phantom today has us taking Darcy Wilmot at 16, Josh Goater at 20 and Eamon Wilkinson at 42.

Happy with Wilmot/Goater... he had Sam Banks going at 43 who I'd prefer over Wilkinson though.

I don't understand why anyone thinks Wilkinson should be on an AFL list let alone ours. Bog average state level small forward. Would rather Reville.

Would adding Banks as basically a third general defender in the one draft be an overconcentration of general defenders?

Brisbane could consider Casey Voss as a rookie also after his breakout season if looking for another good general defender there.

Maybe, I'm a big Sam Banks fan so I see him as clearly best available at 42 in your phantom.

I didn't think the Lions had any list spots for rookies?

Ben Waterworth on Fox live draft chat says that the Lions and Demons are looking at getting up to the Eagles pick 10 (12).

Also says multiple sources have said the Lions are after smalls and that we like Sam Butler.

Happy it sounds like we're trying to be active in moving up, wonder whether the plan is to move one of our current picks up or to use a future first.

I think it makes sense from our point of view but I'm not sure West Coast would want to miss out on Erasmus, Johnson and Amiss. If all 3 of the local kids are gone then maybe

I can't remember the exact picks but I've looked before and our first 3 picks are worth almost exactly the same amount of points as their first 3
