Not true, where do you get that "lot of talk" from? Especially when it comes to clubs forcing the same on to us in the past. There is a distinct dislike for clubs that have done likewise to us.
Every northern academy recruiter has said multiple times on podcasts, Twomey’s Road to the Draft, SEN interviews etc, that they won’t bid on another clubs player just for the sake of it, but only if they rate the player and want the player at that pick.

Conole has even said it on the Roar Deal when discussing the 2018 draft, and was asked if he thought of bidding on Jarrod Cameron at the Tom Berry pick.

Just a small suggestion. Don't have favourites or more importantly those you don't want drafted to the Lions. Watch tonight with excitement, welcome them with open arms and just hope like hell they become players for us ;)
Where’s my purpose in life in that?

I don't like that idea, prefer to act like this if we trade up, just to get Wilmot instead of Sinn or Chesser at our first pick (if they are still available) :p

As underwhelming as it may seem at the time. I will back in our recruiting staff.
I don’t mind Wilmot but would prefer it be at 20. But either way, the development of players at the club is first class in comparison to what it was 10 years ago.

Assuming the top 14 goes the way as expected I'll be content with Wilmot and JvR. Then hopefully get a midfield slider or a half back/wing with a decent kick like Hugh Jackson. Or if we miss out on JvR take the best tall at 41 and a mid like Sonsie or Owens at 20

Another phantom with us taking Wilmot and JVR.

Has Sinn taken at 11, Chesser a bit of a bolter at 12. Johnson at 17 and Goater at 18 are interesting. Wouldn't mind Johnson as a taller mid.

If as per The Age Phantom Draft and Mathew Johnson is on the table at 16, I'd be pretty conflicted if we let him go to Richmond in preference to Wilmot

Sinn and Johnson would be my 2 preferred candidates at 16.

But more likely they will both be gone.

I just see the need on a tall... Think we have enough depth for 5 years at either end. Would rather draft one in 2024 or trade one in.

I want high upside types with potential for flexibility and they must have potential for ball winning and demonstrated some leadership.Wilmot, Butler seem to fit that criteria...

One of the most unrecognised skills is the ability to take a hit. I'm very wary of the blokes who aren't comfortable with body contact or look to get rid of the ball when faced with some physicality usually not cleanly and putting others under pressure. A lot of the time it's better option to force a stoppage. Like that WA lad who could be available at our 3rd pick. Indigenous Robbo clone. forgot his name.

Ideal scenario - getting players x,y or z

Doomsday scenario - not getting players x,y or z

But then wouldn’t someone potentially higher rated slip to us? Potentially someone we didn’t think we’d be able to get? Doomsday they reckon.

Not from WA but I still like Fejo as an option at 41.

All the journos with the group think that we are desperate for a small defender. Sure a good one would be handy but it is the one area where we actually have quality depth.
Agree that we are not desperate. But If we are determined to get Starcevich into the midfield then we look a bit slimmer. I am bullish on our potential depth but that is what most of it is, potential depth...

Starc - gun but might be heading to the midfield
Rich 31yo
Coleman - very promising but only played a few games there
Madden - promising, handful of games
Answerth - reasonably promising, only a few games, very injury prone
Ah Chee - like him but has played all over the ground
Prior - handful of games, looks decent, unsure of best position
Carter Michael - who knows
Uosis - who knows

Add to this we just lost two small / mid backs in Birchall and Brock Smith and it makes sense that we need some move cover there.

Rookie Me first round phantom draft.
Wilmot & Chesser.

These guys do such a great job. I really enjoyed their communication about the entirety of what could happen etc. Expect to see the Fox Footy team also refer to this tonight about sliders and risers.

I'll back the recruiters on whatever decisions they make, but I will say this. Modern history is littered with players who get shifted to the half back who weren't recruited for that role and flourish. It appears a relatively easy position to play and fill. Not sure spending high end picks on half backs is wise...

A few examples being Rich, Jayden Short, Nick Hind, Aaron Hall, Jack Ziebell, Starcevich, Sicily, Bailey Dale, Caleb Daniel etc.
