Does pick 5 get us Finn Callahan or do we need to move up to 3-4.

Firstly, I think we have Pick 6, not Pick 5.

Secondly, hard to tell. Twomey's Phantom has him as the 4th non-academy pick. I doubt North or Adelaide take him, so it would depend on how he's rated against other options by Hawthorn, Gold Coast and GWS.

Hey Pommy just to add on, one of our sticky threads has that all written in there. I would link it here but I'm afraid I don't have the technical nous to do so.

EDIT: Well well well, would you look at this...

Even impressed myself.
You sir are a legend thank you very much awesome effort

I come in peace -
Legit question - Heard that Dow might not be on the required player list at Carlton.

Do any of you think this is accurate?
And if so, what is his contract status and value in your opinion?

Thanks

GO Catters
Not sure who would be making those decisions as most of the coaching panel will be gone, along with the Footy Dept. Once they appoint a new coach in 2 weeks or so, with a new Footy Director they will make the call. In the meantime I will enjoy watching Geelong trip up again..

You realise our problem (one of our problems) is development? How will this change? We've had a million (slight exaggeration) draft picks and it's helped us how?
I think we develop talls ok. Bit sad to see Kemp thrown to the wolves last week as an exception. Curnow and Mckay, and weitering who was in amd out of form early were well managed. TDK too.

No idea why this zero rotation stick them on a flank model for the young midfielders though

Hawks will win and we will lose comfortably. Hence pick 5.

Mot sure that you understand the meaning of unsubstantiated.

I would imagine that we have spoken to the managers of numerous players in regarding players intentions next year.

I would also imagine that their are other clubs doing the same with some of our players.

Somehow there seems to be a bit of a clique saying that it's all gloom and doom because there are teams talking to a couple of our young players.

I've no doubt that we have spoken to Cerra's management, Merritt's manager (early on) etc. See its no big deal for clubs to inquire about other players.

If these young players can't see a changing environment at the club and the potential in the list then it might be best for them to move on .

I have no interest in bullying you or "having a tanty."

It just seems that their appears to be a bit of a clique that seems to be passing off opinions as fact, taking joy at Teague's demise and making out things like this are like the sword of Damocles hanging over the clubs head
This is an old response but I haven't looked in this thread for a while.

Cheers for that. I do know what unsubstantiated means, you clearly don't. I have the proof... I just don't and won't expose it. You've again shown you didn't like what I said, implied Im dumb and ranted about a clique, which I am not part of. All seemingly because you don't like that I had some info you either disagreed with or whatever. Great response. Nice rant. 10/10.

I'd be pushing Marchbank hard this preseason - borderline trying to break him again. If his body holds up, our backline gets a huge boost. If it doesn't, he can be moved to the inactive list (or retire) and we can pick up a tall in the SSP. Worst case scenario is we put him in bubble wrap until round one and then he breaks down.
TBH, Marchy has been out of the game that long now I’m wondering if he’ll get back anywhere near his best. I think we should go after one or both of Bachar Houli & Daniel Talia, and give them a 1-2 year contract until we can develop some decent defenders. Williamson just doesn’t cut it, Jones and Weiters need another tall to help out.

I am just over those players who are always injured.
Marchbank has been feasting at the trough for several years now with no influence on any game whatsoever.
Cuningham has one or two good games a season, then is either injured or back to mediocre.
I really don't care how talented they are if they are not available to play at full fitness for 80% of the season then they need to be traded or rookied.

Frankly Marchbank should be paid out or traded , just can’t stay on the park and Cuningham , Mitch McGovern not much better, a real concern for list management they haven’t contributed much over last 3/4 years , but soak up salary cap space.

You were saying the same thing about Charlie less than a month ago and suggesting we should get rid of him too.

Did you believe the same for Parish? Or Laverde? There's an abundance of examples of players who don't get it together until their 5th, 6th, and 7th seasons etc

Parish?

The player who averaged over 20 possessions a game in his debut season, Cunners after 6 years of AFL has played 41 games and averages 12 possessions.

Jones and Plow both need replacing.

In my view, we made the mistake of thinking we would peak over the next couple of years with a list that wasn't going to cut it (mistake bc we traded for Saad and played experienced blokes this year at the expense of games into youngsters, early on, at least) ... My feeling all along has been that we need that ~2015 crew to become the elder statesmen and then we need to build under them to become the balanced team for a flag tilt.. By the same token, I'm also more than happy to add quality UFAs, who have the right character, at the right price.

We may be able to score top 4 in the next couple of years, but to give us our best chance over the most years, I'd still be trying to hit this draft hard (ie, gain another first-rounder or trade for a genuine A grader with the right qualities) and hope to gain a genuine elite mid. I can understand Cerra as the safe bet, but I'm not sure taking the conservative approach is the best way to flag success. In this case, I don't think it is the right approach because I don't think Cerra's style is what we need as a priority, and I do think we have time on our side.

I think that the strategy was very much that we would be challenging over the next couple fo years, and it's not due to the list build that we're not there. We've blown the last 4 years of development and cohesion (for various different reasons, some outside our control). But if we had a functional Football Department, competent coaching and had stuck to the original strategy, we'd be there abouts.

Agree with the second part, we should be going to the draft this year (and them some cheap KPD depth & Levi replacement).
Give the new coach and footy department the opportunity to accurately assess our list, without tying up even more salary cap space, so we can make really targeted acquisitions at the end of 22.

Hard no to anyone that can't give us two, possibly three seasons plus.

Recruiting players over 30 is for chasing premierships, adding leadership at a rebuilding club or specialist backup like a spare ruckman.

Ok, Luke Hodge worked wonders at Brisbane, but that's the exception.

I am a huge fan of Houli, but he's 33yo, has had injuries last two seasons and would push out one of Docherty, Saad, Williams. Or we play all four and screw side balance just to make it work.

All while paying him salary that could be going to someone that will still be at the club when we're possibly contending.....one day.
