Was quite surprised by the supposed demands Parker had for his new contract, 4 years at $700,000, now i know it’s just media, but I don’t see the length or $$$$$ as something that would be a stumbling block, I would be staggered if most the Vic clubs wouldn’t offer that or more.

I hadn't heard that but I'd definitely do three years at 600 - 700K.

He's well ahead of the likes of Dow, SPS, O'Brien, Fisher, Cuningham Etc etc. Well ahead.

He is, fits in well. As I said if we get him, one or two of them can go out. However to see the best of him we as a club need to change, hopefully the review brings that.

Why not Parker and Cerra?

Crap, I just read the Por que no los dos part.

In all seriousness, if Parker and either of the other two expressed an interest in playing for us, you make it happen. If we have to move on Setters, Newnes, Gov, SPS, Fish, Gibbons to raise the $$$$$ then so be it.

Im still shaking my head and wondering what the Pies are doing, unless they swap player for players, any draft pick they get for decent players, will be absorbed by the Daicos bid.
Parker/Cerra address midfield issues while Maynard really nails down the lockdown defender, a role we've really had issue with. Reckon we can't afford all three (or even Maynard and Cerra) so Parker and Maynard makes the most sense to me.

Cerra worth more than both Saad & Williams combined? I must have seriously missed something. Well I think you yourself may have blinders on. " Trajectory of improvement " is a fairly loose, malleable and misleading phrase in this instance I would think. What suggests Saad and Williams are just going to keel over in a couple of years and cease to be unproductive? Our little champion Kade Simpson played superbly in the backline till he was 36 ( and in all honestly probably could have played on this year ) - so it's not that much of a stretch to think Saad and Williams both have plenty of good years left in front of them, and they are each already proven solid players. Cerra might only be 21 but Paddy Dow and Lochie O'Brien are similarly aged so does that then make them automatically more valuable than all other players aged in their mid 20's, I mean. given their " trajectory of improvement?" Of course it doesn't. The way you talk about Cerra makes him out to be a Gun, which HE IS NOT. Dean Kemp was taken at pick number 128 for the Eagles but his output belied this as he is considered one of the all-time greats - so it really has no bearing on when a player is taken as to their worth. And more valuable because " He plays midfield?" Are you joking? Well then I guess that means that Gavin Wanganeen, Glen Jakovich, Steve Silvagni, Matthew Scarlett, Jeremy McGovern, Andy McKay, Glen Archer, Brian Lake, Dustin Fletcher, Alex Rance, Luke Hodge, Andrew McLeod, John Worsfold, Guy McKenna etc... are / were, all lesser players because they were backmen and not midfielders? Carlton " Blinders " off, Cerra has the potential to be a terrific, long term prospect, no question, but right now he is only a promising mid and therefore Freo have no right to try to extort such an extravagant price for him. Anyway that's my 2 cents as a Carlton person, and as i said before, it is always good to interact with other supporters such as yourself my friend.
I agree with the Freo guy

You can always afford it. You make it happen, if we had to trade 4 players instead of 1, do it, Parker’s supposed asking price wasn’t huge, Cerras price is large for his age, unsure on Maynard, but if they were all keen, make it work.

I believe we have more than enough injury prone players, would not be going near Coniglio, focus on Cerra much younger and plenty of upside in the next 1-2 years.

I was not suggesting we should target him, just that he is not a dud or anything close to that.

Of course, if the asking price was cheap enough you'd be silly not to look, but that is not likely.

If Conglio to Freo trade is seriously being contemplated, then we should chase Adam Cerra hard, Ben Allan will need our 1 st rounder, Adam may just might fall to us, that would be a great outcome for CFC.

Roughly

Dream Pick UpsOut
Coniglio - $600k + $400k AFL money
Cerra - $650k
Parker - $750k
Maynard - $550k
Murphy - $550k
Levi - $400k
Betts - $350k

These aren't crazy contracts, think we could manage them all except Coniglio's AFL money.

Would have to involve
  • Walsh possibly taking unders $700k -$800k
  • Trading some decent players
If you were actually going down this path you would also look to move on SPS, Setterfield, Newnes, Newman, Dow and Kennedy or offer rookie wages because none are best 22. Probably frees up another $1.2mil by the time they are replaced with rookies

Cogs to Perth plus our 1st.
Our 1st and our 2nd(if we have one) plus change to GWS.
Cerra, Hopper and Riccardi to Blues.

Its half and half, I think its clear Cerra is going to be at minimum a reasonable player with a good floor. I've equated him to Mitch Duncan because thats where I see him ending up, unreal player but slightly below a Dangerfield or Selwood type. For many fans he is still an unknown quantity, he may end up a B grade player with a good kick, he may end up an A- like Mitch Duncan or he may end up a genuine superstar like Scott Pendlebury. His youth is a great bonus to his value, but it also limits it in the sense his development isnt quite at a spot that he can command a real kings ransom such as Tim Kelly/Dylan Sheil where imo the team selling almost always wins out long term.

Pick 6 and a 2nd/3rd rounder is where it will end up from what I gather splitting the middle between fan bases. Sounds fair to me on face value but it runs the gauntlet of if he ends up going crazy the next few years pick 6 is gonna feel like sh%t.
I’m thinking along the same lines, our first pick 6, then a swap of our future second Rd for freo’s future third rd next year…

Carlton
ins: Cerra & freo’s 2022 3rd rounder
out: 2021 pick6 2022 2nd rounder

Looks like Luke Parker’s new contract asking terms will have Sydney loosing a few players to other clubs maybe…
I’d love to get Stephens for our second rounder if possible, maybe some shuffling of another later pick aa well…
