A small forward or small back picked up from Dogs VFL team. Fair enough, another option for either end where have lack of smalls for defending.
Ruck depth added to with Mirkov.
Key Defender depth still not addressed with Marchbank out long term and vulnerable if Weitering ever got injured. It is scary that if he went down we would be almost forced to go with Jones and Casboult as our key defenders for the rest of season. Far from ideal. Pray Weiters keeps on keeping on.

Fair points. I guess the frustration stems from us ballsing up player development (which didn't exactly start 5 years ago but has been a constant theme for quite a number of years). Plus I reckon LOB, Dow or SPS would thrive at the right club, which would hurt. With the season looking dim, I'd give them every shot with games.
SPS looked sensational early (3 Brownlow votes in one of early games v Pies) and not played down back. He did not focus on chipping the ball passes but was willing to drill it long if he saw an option. Somehow we kicked that natural instinct out of him and someone in coaching group got this dumb idea he should be a defender. They wasted last two years screwing up his development as engine room mid as a result. Right now, not sure what they thinking. They want to now try him on wing? If so, they actually do not notice his instincts are much better inside traffic. Incredible how we have miss developed some of our drafted mids in recent seasons. O'Brien looks like ideal to develop as wing but we grab a de-listed free agent in one off season which assume should have been purely depth, but then the idiots play Newnes wing for virtually two seasons and totally ignore developing O'Brien properly as winger. Wonder what done to the mind of young LOB.
Dow more a combination of injuries, poor tackling on his part and not picking him in times he should be developed in middle and ease out tagger Ed Curnow to somewhere else in 22. Dow looked good in few minutes he was genuinely in middle before eye injury last game. Get him back you clown coaches and lets develop these guys, FFS!!!

SPS picked up 19 disposals in the game against the Lions where he played wing -- the first time out of defense for over a year. Next round he had 14 disposals against * with 46% TOG and then 3 disposals the week after with 15% TOG.

Really loving our thought process on player development here.

Absolutely outrageous the way he's been mismanaged, really shows up how we have no idea how to develop players.
And now we'll probably lose him for next to nothing. We need a clean out of the brains trust at this club before it goes real south.

Don't get the angst.

Harry > Cripps > SPS and anyone else.

We're not going to go deep into discussions with Samo until we know exactly what the terms are with the other two.

Ball is in his court for the next month or so, to perform well in the reserves games as a midfielder. Earn a recall, push someone else out, then perform in the seniors. If he does that the contract will come no worries.

Fremantle will pick up SPS for a 5th round pick and he will play 200 games for them....

"He returned to a midfield role in a VFL loss to Box Hill a fortnight ago, winning 13 disposals and laying 11 tackles, where his progress was closely monitored by a host of clubs in attendance at Ikon Park."

If scouts were in attendance for his Game vs Box Hill we'll be lucky to get a 5th rounder. Laid 11 tackles because he was super comfortable just jogging around and being second to the ball for most of the game.

Can only assume he didn't know other clubs were there to watch.

The issue is he may do all that only to find himself in a back pocket at senior level again.

To me he looks checked out and I think both parties already know he’s off at the end of the year. I know we’ve drafted some stinkers over the years but I can’t help but think this ones on us.

He didn't look checked out against Brisbane, or Essendon when he came on as sub and made an impact.

I think people are projecting their frustrations with the club and seeing what they want to see.

He's checked out, wants to go play midfield in the VFL to show WC and Freo he can do it.
or
He wants to play midfield for Carlton but knows that in order to break in he's gotta find some touch and form in the VFL first.

Happy to wait and see. I'd be hopeful that he finds some form and comes back in later this year, but if he decides/has decided he wants out, then we play ball for Cerra.

I have no horse in this race and purely an outsiders view
He is a talented kid that needs to and should be played as a wing/high half foward in the role marc murphy is playing with some rotations through the midfield
Its a shame that he is being played out of position and not able to show what he has at the level in his ideal attacking role.

Freo or West Coast would be crazy not to be asking the question or talking to him about a move and unfortunately for carlton he will pprobably be moved on for a 40-50 range pick.

Now you are trolling!

People on here obviously won't like what you have said here, but it's pretty much on the money unfortunately.

Come off it. A 23 year old top 6 draft pick that's played 88 games, no way does he get traded for pick 40 or below.
A 23yo that is presently out of the side after not setting the world on fire.. it's extremely doubtful clubs will be tripping over themselves to hand over anything of significant value for him.
We're better off persevering with the likes of SPS, Dow etc as our investment in them would most likely trump their value if we were to put them on the trade table.

I agree, we should keep him instead of trade.

Unfortunately, right at this moment, SPS isn't worth much, so I prefer we held on. Currently reminds me of what James Aish was producing when he was traded and similar styles

James Aish, headed to Fremantle along with pick 69 and a future third round draft selection. Collingwood received a future second and a future fourth round pick in return.
