There are no prison bars for sale.

The AFL is blocking us from producing either the AFL or the SANFL variety.
I legit thought this was just theatre to build up the Showdown.

First game 100% capacity at AO, yet neither club has got near the 40k capacity this year.

A bit of "controversy" to spruik the game.

I guess not.

I don't understand the AFL' s hypocrisy on this.

Us, Brisbane and Gold Coast all have similar jumpers/colours. No issue.

If all jumpers need to be distinct (to protect branding), why do clash jumpers exist?

There should be no issue in Port wearing this jumper in any game that is not against Collingwood. And maybe St Kilda?

That's a clash of colours, not designs. Design includes both colour & layout - Collingwood have the rights to black & white vertical stripes.

I doubt Collingwood would have a problem if Port chose to wear a black & white checkerboard design, or horizontal hoops (like Adelaide & Geelong).

Yeah, saw that today when did that change?

I got my mate's son an SANFL jumper for his birthday late last year from your club shop.

Recently I believe.

If I had to guess I'd say Eddie pressured Gil into changing it out of spite for our prison bars push.

I'm almost certain there were some for sale earlier this year.

Well said.

This should be a Australia against the VFL issue.

You can check my posting history, I'm not at all advocating it as hard as others, however it's more the principle of a vocal minority controlling the League.

It's things like VFL teams with pissweak alternate jumpers etc etc. It's all the other injustices in the comp.

I frankly love the new Guernsey, but no one should be able to dictate to others, I doubt most clubs would act like Eddie has.

You're right, it could have been a unified approach against the VFL, and the more the 8 non-Vic clubs work together the better.

However it's not an attractive offer to say "here's a crappy deal we signed in 2007, wanna join us?"

The non-VFL clubs need to work out how they can collaborate more often.

The AFL own all IP. Designs, mascots, imagery etc.

I understand Collingwood and Eddie not wanting Port to wear it. And kind of admire how strong they are defending their stance.

But why are the AFL allowed to blatantly protect one club in this way?

Next thing they’ll want to play their traditional NTUA before the game at our showdown.

Wouldn't put it past them - and it's not without precedent - they got Gold Coast and St Kilda to play it prior to the China games, despite Port being the away team for each of those games.

Imagine this, the 8 sides banded together, think what happens then.

If it takes this, whatever, it's the bigger picture for mine.
Imagine if Port didn't stab the SANFL in the back when they were holding out and refusing to join? We might have been able to negotiate something that didn't result in us having zero say in the VFL competition we ended up joining.

That might have been better.

Well the AFL have come out and ruled it out once and for all, case closed.

It doesn't really matter that the colors are similar or not. The only thing that matters is that Port signed a contract stipulating that they wouldn't wear that design in the AFL.

There is no contract between us and Gold Coast preventing them from using our colors. If we didn't want Gold Coast using our colors we would have needed to do what Collingwood did and set up a contract.

This whole guernsey saga shows once again the self entitled nature of Port supporters.

I hope Port take it to the Supreme Court and lose. It would be even sweeter if they also incur hundreds of thousands in legal costs along the way.

Also it's hilarious that Port are now claiming that the Showdown is a "heritage round" for them, yet don't Port supporters continuously claim that the Crows are irrelevant and don't stand for anything?

Classic #portlogic

The reality is that the agreement covers only heritage round, so is irrelevant to discussions outside of that round. There is no agreement if that's all that Eddie has.

Shame every other state had joined already?

Forget it is Port.

Why does such a contract need to exist?

As you say such contracts don't exist between other clubs.

Because Collingwood wanted to protect their brand and for some reason Port agreed to sign the contract.

If they were going to fight it, now is not the time. It was back when they signed the contract.

So nothing can change because of a contract?

Are we still playing games at West Lakes?

There was a contract in place that 22 AFL games are played there each year.

Times change.

The way I see it, the AFL should not have such agreements/contracts in place. It favours one club over another.

Port want to use this jumper to generate a bit of coin. For a club in such poor financial shape it is a no brainer to dust off this jumper and get some sales.

Yes Collingwood want to protect their brand. They have every right to do so.

But the AFL are supposed to protect the interests of all 18 clubs. The hit Collingwood take in Port wearing this jumper for two games is minimal, would not be noticed.

However for Port it can mean an uplift of revenue by $100k plus. With such tight margins it makes a bit of a difference.

Overall it is a positive for the league. Port have more inventory to sell, may need less money from AFL House.

Making a decision soley on what Collingwood want is myopic.

Maybe the clubs should work together.

We'll publically support Port's bid for the showdowns to have "heritage round" status and in exchange they will agree to name the showdown medal the "Phil Walsh" medal.
