Couldn't have been that good if he didn't get to play in that role during the season proper. Perhaps he looked second rate compared to Green and others at Giants training?

Tom Green should play every game this year. Maybe rested for 1-2 games tops.
Or perhaps you don’t play the kid you know has asked to be traded home at seasons end 🤔 and play your academy kid instead who is a gun and is yours to keep. I’m happy to double down on Hately going 90 + this year, quality inside mid as a junior who I reckon will transition to seniors.

Interesting theory, however the games records suggest that Green and Hately both played 6 games last year and together in 4 of those 6 games. Green also spent substantial time at HF and not exclusively as an inside mid.

Caldwell 9 games (Rds 2,3,7,8,9,10,12,13,16)
Hately 6 games (Rds 3,4,5,6,7,16)
Green 6 games (Rds 1,4,5,6,7,18)
O'Halloran 2 games (Rds 10, 12)

GWS were stacked with established Mids last year whilst hoarding 4 gun rookie mids with room for only 1-2 of them in the starting 22. As you can see that apart from Rd7 they never played more than 1 or 2 of them at the same time. Their Acadamy pick Green didn't exactly get favorable treatment over the interstate kids.

Sure , not saying Hately will ever reach the heights Green is destined for, he is special, certainly not a comparison thing. I see Hately’s numbers after given a full game as an inside mid with responsibility in the current Crows team set up as being 90+ ,he will be guaranteed the mid time with Brad gone , ideal price stepping stone , right Bye for Dangerfield Trade 😉.
You have rightly pointed out that junior form often doesn’t make seniors but I do feel the force is strong in this one
to at least gut bust out a score each week.

I'm not taking Hately but I'd say the Giants knew he was leaving from mid-season so didn't play him (pretty sure that rd16 games was as a late injury replacement). Not sure comparing him to a rookie because he has only played 13 games is fair in this case. He's also had 3 pre-seasons which makes a big difference.

If he gets a crack at inside mid he'll score well imo. Good debate though.

Taranto played his first game of the season in Rd7 (which coincidentally was Hately last game before the Rd16 game) so that could be another reason why he lost his spot.

My latest version post L.Whitefield and B.Brown injury news.

J.Dunkley's spot is really my only concern. It will either stay the same or become Dusty (started him last 2 years and have been burnt), Sidebottom (dont think his role will stay the same) or Zorko. I love the Zorko pick but I feel having 3 Brisbane players in my FWD line is a bit risky (even though im a Lions supporter)

You could realistically cop 3 to 4 donuts Round 1 with that side.

All the flavours of the week in this version, risky af and only having 1 on field rookie may limit cash generation but at least they all should be playing every week until injured, thoughts appreciated. This is true but hew trained the house down on Friday.

Danger over Dunkley for round 1 if he is fit. Dunks burnt me in round 1 last season as a MID only but also has concern over his role with the Treloar arrival. Wait and see for sure. I'll back anybody paying the extra for Danger at F1 though.
