You're basically saying Docherty will outscore a Jye Simpkin type and Laird will outscore a Wines type,
Both gutsy calls imho
Cheers Tox.

Honestly haven't even considered Simpkin tbh.. He was like that bad smell I couldn't get rid of last season until the last round when he went 140 and helped me to a league win.. What do you think he'll avg this season? I think Higgins leaving means he's a certainty to be tag and as we saw last season he completely caved when getting tagged.

With laird my intention is to get him to def eventually but agree re doc it's a bit risky especially with Saad coming in which means probably less kickouts but there is no one else I really like in that 450-520k range which I don't already have.

Yeah I've tried to fit neale in but without sacrificing massively on other lines it's proving a bit difficult.

The one thing I can do is downgrade heppell to will Phillips depending on how he goes in pre season games and then trade Titch to neale.

Neale most likely to get Hewitt tag in Rd 1 also which sways me away a little bit.. But if Hewitt doesn't tag neale or neale breaks the tag it's going to be awfully hard to get him in.

It was Clarke not Hewett that blanketed Neale last year. It’s a concern but getting it out of the way round 1 is good as it very quickly cycles out.

Keen to get some thoughts on my current team.

Gone with 3 risky options FWD but still thinking maybe downgrading a 1 of Zieball, Daniher or Impey to 117k rook and then turning say Zieball to a Heeney Toby Greene type.

Dusty and Laird in the mids with every intention of moving them back and Fwd when I can make upgrades.. Does my midfield look too light on? Im pretty happy with my Def.

Cheers.

I really like this structure for Rd1 with the D/M & M/F at M2 & M3. If you feel that Doch is too risky to start with you could potentially find the cash to upgrade him to Stewart by downgrading DGB to Gould if he's named.

You'd want to be banking on Duggan, Simpkin, Rowell & Taranto all being keepers at $450k+ starting prices.
Agreed.

I’ve tossed it up & would rather start the SP’s then get stuck with M7/8 types - not that 100-105 m7/8 is mediocre or anything

Duggan worries me with Yeo returning - wait & see for mine

My mistake mate, and that's true that it's good to get the potential tag out of the way early.. I did this last year with danger vs de boar.

It's a major risk not starting neale I know but on the odd occasion that teams put tags on him he really struggled.. One game that stands out is the saints game last season.. I think it was Ross that went with him? And completely took him out of the game.. He still managed to be gifted 70 pts by CD but that game in particular was worth 35-40 points.. He literally had no impact whatsoever.

That being said, will teams start to put a bit more work into him as we saw last season he can really struggle with the tag.

But, on the other hand he could get off the chain like the start of last season and become unaffordable.

Pretty vanilla so far.

Not budging on Petracca, think he he might become thee man in the AFL shortly, very similar player to Dangerfield for me. Will watch Heppell closely, not sold on him, had some bad injuries, but the price is juicy No doubt. Would ideally like to add Short if Heppell doesn’t survive, confident he improves again this year and new rules won’t hurt.

Love it.

If it were mine Ziebell/Daniher>Heeney/Rookie?

Big chance. We’ll all be seeing how Ziebell and Heppell go across half back before pulling the trigger and Daniher who knows. If he fires early I would be shitty as hell if I was a bombers supporter. Looked disinterested when he was out there last year.

Yeah really unsure on doc especially with the likes of Saad and zilliams coming in.

Would love Stewart instead, but will have to see how DGB goes in the pre season games.. I don't know much about him but reports say he could fill the sicily role and if so could score really well and make some quick cash and I can't afford to miss out on that.

Others I'm looking at are witherden, Doedee and howe (pending fitness).

Howe was phenomenal last year before injury. How’s he tracking Pie people?

Yepp. Ppl are still forgetting this.
Hewett doesnt play as a "tagger" type anyway, but he does play very well on Neale. It was 2019 when Hewett scored 155 playing on Neale, but Neale still had plenty of it as well and still scored a mini-ton anyway. It's just a good matchup tis all.
Clarke is desperate to find a niche to hold onto his career and Horse gave him the chance to hard tag Neale last yr due to form. Blanketed him.
I wouldnt be worried about Neale's Rnd 1 score unless u see Clarke named...he's very much fringe 22 even in a young side.
Hewett is young but plays as a solid old school inside mid with a tough one on one game, similar to many. CAN tag like most, but too highly regarded to use that way.
Our clubs look for fringe players as taggers. Always a concern when a fringe 22 gets picked rather than best 22.

I'm not concerned anyway. As u say it will cycle out fast even if he's held to a 75. I want him for the season.

I hope this doesn't come across as too condescending, but without knowing your level of experience...it's crucial that you make sure that all of your bench rookies are named for Rd1 with the exception of 1 cheap loophole doughnut, preferably at R3. And if by some miracle we get more than enough Rd1 rookies, you need to research which of those named Rd1 rookies have the best team roles and JS. Because without sufficient early cash generation you're destined for another 20k finish no matter how good your starting 22 is, as you won't fully upgrade your starting 22 quickly enough to keep up with the better organized teams.

Thanks for the very cogent advice. Sadly for me, experience doesn't equal wisdom. As they say 'A wise man learns from his mistakes......'. Going to spend some energy researching rookies with JS. Amongst a myriad of other things. For what it's worth, for many years I thought folks in here were all dropping Just Saying in on random statements. Figured out late last year, what it actually meant.

DGB wasn't much of a scorer for Swan Districts in the WAFL last year averaging 60 something IIRC. He can take an intercept mark but he's still not physically developed at 195ch/78kgs. I wouldn't expect too much from him at this level scoring wise. This year at least.
