Generally, we need to develop defenders for our future. Replacements for May, Jetta, and future cover for Lever. just in case.
A key tall forward & ruck understudy = Mac Andrew.
And an X factor small half forward.
Lever is 25, I assume are you referring to future cover in case he gets injured? The club really likes the bloke we drafted mid season Turner who plays a very similar game to Lever I think we have insurance there already.

Unfortunately unless we can trade into the top 10 we aren't going to get our hands on Andrew.

X-factor forward would be awesome but where would you suggest it would be coming from? I think Laurie can step into the 22 next year and provide real X-factor up forward.

I think our biggest need is a defensive minded small/medium defender to replace Nev/Hib = the perfect replacement is Maynard.

If we're going to have a run at multiple premierships we need to keep our cap in check. Second tier role players that can do a job well may be the way to go.
Getting through covid and the next broadcast deal may change that though.

we definitely need to look at life after May as well as a key forward. The key forward situation is almost getting desperate. Brown isn't what we hoped.
Yeah this is a really bizarre call.

The last few weeks he's kicked 2, 4, 3, 2, 2 as well as assisting a goal a game over the past 3 weeks.

If you wanted him to kick 6 every week, get out your time machine and get back in the 90s.

Exactly. If he played every game this year he wouldn't be that far off the Coleman tbh..

It might've already been mentioned here but Sam Edmund on SEN this morning:

“Melbourne and a number of other clubs have enquired about Brayden Maynard” … “He’s refused to sign an extension at Collingwood until he knows who the new coach is going to be, which others clubs are smelling as blood in the water” … “They reckon he’s gettable”.

The sound of it today with Sam Edmund was that Weid is probably more likely to stay than go - lots of clubs unsure what to make of him.

Yes, Lever's future cover. Allowing 3yrs to develop new kids.

I see Turner replacing Hore, who is probably a match for jSmith. Hibbo didn't played last week, as I think they wanted extra height + Closing speed.
I see Smith as playing taller than Hibbo, with straight out speed, to cover the Rohan's, Issac Smiths and Dangermouse. IMO, Hibbo is now relegated to taking the Collingwood 6 footer types.
Maynard would be perfect to replace Hibbo.

X factor = draft. I do not think Fritzel is the answer in big pressure games. A replacement for him is essential. He goes missing when the tough get going. Opposition.
If only we had of taken up the option when Roosy questioned do we want him, back then, do we want to take a punt on Toby green.?

I don't think we have a replacement for Nev.
I see Bowey as a Salem alternative, or a wing. down the track.

Replacements might look something like this. >
FB/ NevJet, Petty, Turner
HB/ Bowie, Declase, dSmith
CL/ Baker, ???????, Rosman
HF/ Bedford, Weide, XXXXXX?
FF/ Spargo, ???????, bLaurie

I don't think we can rely on just having one backup for each position. As some just won't make it. dSmith, Baker, Rosman, Bedford, Weide, ????

Petty can cover May at a pinch, even tho he's not as good. Tomlinson can take 2nd tall. Lever's cover we're yet to find. Jetta's cover, we don't have.
TMac's cover is Weide.
bBrowns cover we don't have. but mAndrew would be handy to have.

What do you think TMac's value would be worth to GCS's ?

We need a better goal scoring ability.
Fritz is great when its soft and cosy. He can just lurk and pounce. But when he is minded he goes all coy.
A Degoey would be handy in the pivot, allowing Petracca to play more forward, but both of these two are better on the ball.
IMO, we need a fritz replacement.

So we need somebody better than our leading goalkicker???

I don't want to lose Weide. I think he is our best option looking ahead, as the CHF. Jackson is hindering Weide atmo, because ha and TMac are both playing high mostly, as a midfield marking option. This is where Weide should be playing. And now we also see bBrown pushing high up the ground, as well.
Weide is not so strong deep, as the main high marking target. IMO he plays a lot like TMac's role. rotate bBrown and Jackson, when one pushes high up ground, the other should be going deep, or to the bench.

Play Weide at CHF, and push TMac to flank, both float up the ground on opposing wings. Marking outlets from defence. Weide is a better field kick than tMac. and better midfield kick than bBrown.

Exactly. H&A games are not Finals.
Fritz scores mostly due to others work. Which allows him to be one out. He plays mostly small, except when in space one out, or he can comes from the side or behind.
He's a nice kick, a nice mark one-out, and a nice boy.
Why is he not going to be able to perform in finals?
All-Australian squad member and leading goalkicker for 1st on the ladder side is shit and needs to be replaced.

Yeah sure

IMO he won't be able to be free so often. He'll get a lot more attention in finals matches, as opposing teams will try to cut down our already thin scoring options.
Replaced, in our near future. We have to look to draft another, to fill the spot. I see him as the weak-link forward.

Bizarre

Well stop drinking your pizz on the weekend, and start thinking.
please listen to yourself. you are saying that a 47 goal medium forward who is in the all-australian squad is a weak link. Our leading goalkicker by 12 goals is a weak link. just incredible.

I can't say I agree. Fritsch is probably our most skilled forward (excepting Kozzi's freakish talents). He's always had great forward craft, but this year his goal kicking and tackling has gone to a whole new level.

I don't think it's a knock to say that forwards depend on each other to create space. That's a vital part of their role. It doesn't make Fritsch less accomplished because he takes advantage of it.

I do agree with you that we should keep Weid though. He's a confidence player, and with the right people and around him, and a good run of luck, I think he can be what we need him to be. It's certainly worth pursuing as Tmac and BBB head towards the backend of their careers. (Unless we can get Mac Andrew for him... then he's gone!)

Yes, exactly what I am saying. He is the easiest of our forwards to shut out, in finals games. He is the one they will put work into.

Isn't that to be expected?

He's improved this half of season, since he copped some criticisms.

Agreed.

All players that i know of, are confidence players. Some are more intune with whats aked of them, than others. Fritz is asked less of. TMac is asked less of.
tMac by the way played a support role well on the weekend, putting blocks and interference on, to help Brown, and others get the ball. He made a good nuisance of himself.
