Ladhams has some well noted deficiencies but he's 23. Not many rucks or KPFs are dominating at that age and many look average until they hit their mid 20s and then bang.

I'd keep him and back him in to develop. If he can work on his forward craft and spend all offseason working on his marking, he could be an absolute weapon for us. He moves like a much smaller player and knows where the goals are when he's not tied to a KPF role.

what do we think is reasonable?

What do you think it would take to get a first 22 player under 24 from another club, especially if they’re a tall.
Yah, I don't know, that's why I'm asking. It's always different from the club that has him to the club that wants him.

This is what it is for me, he COULD be an absolute weapon, meaning that he's probably worth more to you guys than he is to wherever he's moving. If your trading in someone, you usually want a guaranteed player, where with Ladhams he could still be anything.

I'm not particularly sold that we'll get him btw, I think there's a good chance that we can't, or are unwilling, to give you guys what you'll want at the trade table. And fair enough, if you want to keep him I think you should play hardball and keep him unless the offer is eye wateringly good.

Mate do you know how refreshing it is to read posts about a trade from a levelheaded poster such as yourself? After reading and being involved in the ladhams and Dawson threads on the main board it’s nice to chat with someone who is actually interested in a player and peoples responses and not just talking someone down or baiting. Happy to trade you guys ladhams now. Hoping it ends up being part of Dawson to us. Cheers.

BTW, what do you guys think fair compensation is for Ladhams? Do you think that there is actually a chance that he leaves or is it all just the trade period getting to us?
Personally I think if he entered the draft he would go in the top 15, possibly top 10.

In terms of a pick though, I think the club would pull the trigger if something between 15 and 20 was offered. Above that and I can't see the deal getting done. He's contracted and too valuable to give away for less.

And remember Finlayson is not a Ladhams replacement. If Lycett fell over before round 1, Finlayeon would not lead our first ruck.

I think a club will cough up an equivalent of a first round pick for him in the end for a variety of reasons, firstly because you know what you get with more potential on offer, you are saving the club a million dollars in development instead if drafting a 18 year old and hes your ruck/forward which there are only about 4 or 5 players in the comp that can genuinely do it. I'd personally keep him and trade mr marshmallow

ive had this opinion for 2 weeks now and sydney knocking back croms move everytime has just sort of justified my thoughts.

but my thought is ladhams and 16 for dawson and 31. all port and sydney need to do is convince his manager.

the deal adelaide did yesterday for next years future has just made it allot harder to get any deal done with sydney and there isnt a player on there list sydney need or potentially want.

Absolutely, it's the classic conundrum for a traded developing player. The selling club want the potential value and the buying club want to pay for exposed form.

My attitude towards big men is that you basically keep drafting and developing them until you've got guns everywhere, so i'd prefer we keep Ladhams and the return i'd personally want for him is more than i'd expect most clubs would be willing to pay for him at this stage. The club may feel differently though. If they don't think he's capable of reaching that potential for whatever reason, now is as good a time as any to try to cash in if there is strong interest.

This would be lovely, but 'all they have to do would be to convince his manager' might be harder than you make it sound.

If you were a 24 year old kid given the chance to join your boyhood club, how easy do you think it would be to convince you to join their hated rival instead?

Surprised Brisbane haven’t expressed an interest in Ladhams.

They don’t have the strongest ruck line up at all, their backup Archie Smith retired, Hipwood out for next year with his ACL and left with Mcinerney who is solid but would think Ladhams develops well past him.

They have 2 x firsts and I think pick 18 is pretty bang on for him (14 too high).

Straight swap 18 (becomes 20) for Ladhams.

Exactly, he ain't coming here, and fair enough if he was Crom supporter.

Dawson isn't coming here. It's not happening. Move on.

The same posturing from managers happens every year and no player ever changes who they chose and goes to another option. The deal will get done, he will be a Crow.

I can't believe the over-rating of both Ladhams and SPP on this board.

If we had to choose one out of Ladhams and Hayes to be our ruck for the next 10 years, who are you banking on? Do you really think Hayes hangs around another 1-2 years without getting a look in if Ladhams stays?

SPP has not improved at all over the last 2-3 seasons. If he can't demand an inside midfield spot right now in a team that lacks midfielders, then what is that telling you?

Worked for Scott Thompson.

I would be willing to bet it was much more about money than this.

But what is your point? That we should get rid of them both for nothing?

Ladhams is a 23 year old Ruckman who is one of the best at his age level. Its just unfortunate we have another very strong Ruckman on the list. As a second ruck he did a decent job this year.

SPP had a mediocre year following some offield issues but was strong last year. What's the point of getting rid of him now for nothing?

Jon Ralph is just an echo chamber. He'd have less understanding of what two non-Victorian clubs are doing as I have of Kazakhstan politics.
