The glaring weakness isn’t plodding accumulator though.

it’s a quick genuine damaging midfielder that we are lacking

which is like the exact opposite of Mitchell.

So where do we purchase these quick damaging midfielders we need? ALDI?

Mitchell is a far better footballer than Rockliff ever was and most of our fans pissed themselves with excitement when we got him (yes for free but did take cap space).

Mitchell isn't Petracca or Dusty, but not many are. IF and its a Big IF, we can get Butters or Rizee to develop into that explosive midfielder we need, Mitchell will compliment that.

If we honestly think we're competing next year, and hawthorn is genuinely offering their best midfielders for a first round pick plus minor haggling, we'd have to be trying to convince one to come to (or back to) Port. Surely. It's our glaring weakness and there weren't many options on the trade table. Now all of a sudden a club has seemingly opened up shop and said take your pick.

It would not surprise me if ALDI did that, right next the Ski Boots and Screwdrivers.

We’ve got the inside accumulator already in wines, we’ve got the young protege inside mid in drew. And we’ve got the older established player in boak.

our midfield had a deficiency last year, it was that quicker damaging midfielder.

adding Mitchell doesn’t solve that, we just get another accumulator and wines boak drew and Mitchell doesn’t work whatsoever, so we would be benching drew until boak at least is gone, tho I still think wines Mitchell and drew is still a slightly questionable mix after that.

and yeah, quick damaging mids aren’t easily available, cause the game has trended towards them (dunstan nearly unwanted and hewett didn’t even get another offer from Sydney and went to blues without any competition for him at all). So why would we prioritise a 28yr old plodding inside mid over the mid type we need to develop?

if we were to do an analysis of the leagues team lists and identifying who are the possible best inclusions, funnily enough I reckon butters, rozee, spp and Bergman would be the names at the top of the list.

we don’t even need to trade for any of them.

We already had butters earmarked to transition into a full time mid across this past season but was slowed down by that injury.
Bringing in a mid type that isn’t the fit we need next to wines and drew that holds butters and co out on the flanks would be such a waste.

I also disagree with this statement

we got a much lesser Rockliff by the time he came here but at their comparative peaks

rockliff >>> Mitchell

Rocky had all the accumulating and clearance winning ability Mitchell has but was a much better marking threat around the ground at his peak than Mitchell and also a bigger marking threat inside 50 and goalkicking threat forward.

If this trade period has highlighted anything, it is that you have the absolute shittest takes on opposition players. I swear you must not watch any games other than Port ones.

Lets see what happens by the end of the trade period - (Ken will be somewhat desperate to win a flag and will do anything to get it IMO), he's on his last hurrah, caught between improving the list each year with youth and knowing he's cooked and back to selling motor vehicles shortly.

lolwat?
I’m pretty sure it would be very common opinion that Rockliff at his peak was better than Mitchell.

I’m amazed that you think my opinion is the wild hot take of all hot takes but this..

“Mitchell is a far better footballer than Rockliff ever was” from PapaG wasn’t while accusing me of not watching football..

Let's just stick to developing a midfield around Wines, Drew, Amon, Butters, Rozee, Duursma, Bergman, Mead +/- Jones/Houston please.
If we can bring in a late first-rounder for Ladhams, then use that and our other first round pick to strengthen the young midfield group further.

Us winning a flag in the next 1-2 years depends on Wines replicating his 2021 form, Amon getting a little better especially in the big games, Drew getting more footy but most importantly Butters and/or Rozee becoming high output mids. Wingard, Mitchell, O'Meara would be a step backwards.

Wow that’s an insane asking price. 12 + Dawson for 4 is way less than that.

Could end up being something like:

Dawson, 12 (2022), 30 (2022)
For
2 (2022), 18 (2022), 20 (2022)

If they Adelaide accepted that.
If you do the draft points equivalent on that, the crows are effectively giving up pick 25 on 12+Dawson for 4, and effectively pick 3 on the second scenario.

Mitchell far superior player in my eyes than Rockliff.

I think you will find we would most likely have interest in O'Meara at hawks.

This is a pretty shit take. He needed a good/positive year in 2019 and started a rebuild that has set the club up well. He has consistently favored youth and cut guys who could have propped us up for short term gains ala S Gray/ Broadbent/ Polec/ Wingard/ etc. You can claim he is a shit coach all you like, but he has consistently done right by the club with regards to list management.
