Clearly we weren't interested in trading next year's first then. At least for picks 17/19.

I have absolutely no inside word on anything, but as I said above I wonder if they would ever do that sort of deal with us.

In any case the key thing for gold coast is getting a contracted player earning too much (Brodie) off the books, and we don't have the list spots or the salary cap space to achieve that.

Probably right 19 for something in the low 30's. What is Brodie worth? Know he was a highly rated junior but he looks like the steak knives in this deal
It’s more about clearing his reported $400k off the books, and opening up a list spot.

Pretty sure the AFL has told them any academy kids they prelist (as of last year) have to go on to the senior list, and not the rookie list. And that they have to start bringing their rookie list down.

Melbourne now pick in front of us after trading their first to us last year. They do well trading back in when they have traded out the previous year.

Is there anything stopping us from say offering GWS a couple draft picks and in return they don't match a bid on Fahey? I know in some circumstances in the NBA you can trade draft rights of a player and was wondering if there's some way to manipulate the system in the AFL.

So the Dees have the pick ahead of us. A little Trent Rivers 2019 feel about this?

Someone was always going to get pick 17.

Looking at the trade, if we wanted it, surely we could have traded our future first for 17 and a future third round pick at the very least.

But we’re tight for list spots, so always unlikely we’d have room for 3 first round picks.

Just on this bit, why not 3 first round picks? I think it's likely we take 3 draftees this year so why not make them all as high as possible.
