Interesting post. Sometimes though the wiry, rubbery guys can be incredibly resilient. Think of Kade Simpson or Dustin Fletcher. Where the guys who are built like tanks, like Rowell, Morabito just keep breaking.

From memory there were some concerns with Sturt & his ability to hold up to the rigours of Afl footy due to his lack of footy conditioning through his teen years. The comment was that he had not played enough footy to have that gradual conditioning that all young men & women get from playing & trying year in, year out.

Luke Jackson didn’t play much footy either.

Chris 25, do you think Arlo Draper can be compared to Chad Wingard? If yes who is better of these two?

Agree with the AFL being a lottery we did get lachie Neale for pick 58. The more picks you have the more chances of hitting a jackpot

Lottery is a terrible term for the draft as in a lottery all numbers have an equal probability of being drawn. Sure we landed Neale with 58, but the median games played by pick 58 since 1995, excluding rookie upgrades and redrafts, is 21. And that's high for a pick in the late 50s (E.g. For 57 its 4. Only 2 players out of 23 picked there have played more than 100 games and thirteen <10).

Hey Chris25 or any other U18 watchers - have you watched any of Amiss, JVR, Williams and can comment on how they stack up against previous years tall draft talent? Seems to be a lack of talls in this draft is elevating these guys - particularly Amiss - up the draft order. Amiss has kicked 50 in the colts, but so did Dillon O'Reilly (46). Amiss was also quiet in the State game and finals, so is it a case of getting easy goals in the colts like O'Reilly or does he have talent?

Dillon O'Reilly kicked 46 goals in his bottom age year and looked great - recruiters were keen on him. Then when he went backwards in his draft year everyone dropped off of him. I think a large part of what makes a prospect successful at AFL level is their willingness to put the extra effort in to step up to the level. People that call elite footballers lucky because they are naturally gifted annoy the shit out of me - because those superstars have worked exceptionally hard to get to where they are.

Do Jye, Jacob and Jack have what it takes? We are all guessing, even the recruiters are, just with more information at their disposal to judge it. It would have been good to see them play against Vic Metro and Vic Country but talent, athletic profile and footy IQ wise I think they have shown they are a good chance. But all three will still have to put a shit load of effort to improve fitness, speed etc to be long term AFL footballers. There is a reason Tabs has had a long term AFL career and it isn't to do with his footy IQ.

That's a very good point. This is why I consider fitness a strength of character measurement.

Playing him in the backline at Peel couldn't have helped O'Reilly surely. My only reservation on JVR is he seems to be a burst match winner in the forwardline, a bit like O'reilly was.

Did you watch the first state game? Amiss was very good

So should we delist all our players to get the maximum number of tickets in the lottery?
One player doesn’t win you a grand final so no. To my point and elaborate more the more higher picks or picks in general the more likely you will hit a gem (jackpot) you could still hit a dud at 1 even with as much hype around them doesn’t mean they are automatically going to be a A grade AFL player.let’s say you have 3 in the top 10 then you have a higher chance/probability of hitting a A grade player (more picks) going down the order doesn’t necessarily mean you will not hit something but less of a probability it’s not rocket science.

Do people think that JVR will be available at 19?
Do we really want to hand 22 to Geelong for Clark?

In the wake of Lobb's no deal. These questions need some thought. I suspect our draft is more delicate now not less.
