Chris - do you see any of the WA KPF’s in this draft having the quality to make it? Thanks in advance for your insights

To make it? Yes. To be a #1 KPF? Not sure.

I'm pretty confident on Amiss and van Rooyen. Amiss has been getting a few Gunston comparisons, I see him more as a Jack Riewoldt type. He isn't powerful, doesn't have a big kick on him either but has succeeded as the deepest forward. In regards to Amiss and his kicking, I'm not bothered at all. Goal kicking accuracy is as bad as it's ever been across the league, so clearly nobody ever improves in that area - even with all the practice and coaching. So I'd back Amiss to gain some yards on his kick as he gets bigger and stronger more than someone suddenly becoming accurate.

van Rooyen, I think is good enough to make it at either end of the ground. But I do prefer him forward.

The recruiters and development team have been really good for a few years now.

Have faith.

They may not even take Amiss, and if they do he is only young so form will fluctuate.

Despite what I posted I certainly won't be complaining if we get him.

In fact, in my ideal draft we'd get him and JVR to cover us for a Brander/Allen situation where one might turn out better than expected and one worse.

Mac Andrew is a really interesting prospect.
Guys that tall who move like him are like rocking horse shit.
He seems to know how to use his body, even though he's light.
Kicks well off both feet, and his handballing is very good. nicely weighted.
wouldn't be unhappy with Andrew and Rachele first up

Any other year you'd be stoked to have a crack at Gibcus.

Real Luke McPharlin areas

It’d be nice to have one more top 15 selection as I think we all have around 4 players to go into those 2 selections. Best mid, Rachelle, Andrew & either Amiss or JVR. If we knew JVR was going to slip to 19, that would make it easier.

Theres going to be a lot of debate & even more melts come draft day.

i do wonder whether the priority might extend to two talls for the first two picks. Gambling on the trades of Brodie and Clark and development of Young to cover midfield development for this year.

I agree with Chris25 that the available talls do not project as ideal for #1 targets, and I think we should look again in next year's draft. 1 mid, 1 KPF, 1 medium/small forward is my preferred combination.

I think we will have first dibs at the WA talent at 8 and 10. Erasmus is the only non Victorian player in that top 6-10 bracket?
The others like him Callahan, Goater, you’d expect to go before him.
Amiss, JVR, Johnson look more of the 10 -20 mark.
Goater could be a bolter similar size, weight as the Bont when drafted.

I am fine with the WA talent, but I also thought Joose made an inspired pick of Draper at 19/21 selection in the Phantom draft.

And while we have had good exposure to the WA and SA boys, our scouts will bring in intel about the rest of the draft pool as happened with Treacy. I quite like the look of Ferres for example, but that is shallow opinion compared to the tracking our scouts would have on him.

In case your interested I am in the Mock Draft run by gosaints12 as Freos drafter.

For picks 8,10 and 21 I got JVR, Erasmus and Draper.

Flame away.

I know bugger all apart from reading the various BF boards but Thats pretty much my fav combo right now right now

Excellent job !

Erasmus and Johnson both in the same Subiaco midfield just continue their trajectory and replace Mundy and Fyfe respectively in 5 years. Positive vibes that JVR last till 19.

Even better he’s not picked on first night and gain a future second from any of North , Hawks and Geelong (imagine that essentially Clark for rnd 3 and rnd 4 pick swap) and still grab him at 24ish.

So while I’m dreaming, for December preseason we have:

Mid/Fwd : Erasmus
Mid : Johnson
Fwd: JVR (and a future 2nd)
Small Fwd: Motlop after 40 bid
Ruck fwd: Benning after 20 bid

Traded in
Clark
Brodie

What's our tall forwards strategy if JVR doesn't last till then?

I'm not unhappy with the potential mids who will be available at 19/21, but KPFs, nup.

I think it's dependent on how we rate Jack Williams. For me, Amiss is probably in the 8-15 range. van Rooyen around 15-25. And Williams is 25-40. But if we personally rate Williams about the same as the other two, then he could be our plan in the second round. There's also pretty much no chance we keep #19, we'll look to downgrade it and maybe pick up a future second in the process.

So we could end up with two non WA, non KPPs with our first two picks...

#8 - Josh Rachele
#10 - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
#25ish - Jack Williams

At the moment, I'm imagining our first two picks will be coming out of this pool - Josh Rachele, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Josh Ward, Ben Hobbs, Josh Sinn, Neil Erasmus, Matthew Johnson, Jye Amiss, Josh Goater. With Mac Andrew and Josh Gibcus maybe being available too.

1. North - Jason Horne-Francis
2. Western Bulldogs - Sam Darcy
3. Collingwood - Nick Daicos
4. GWS - Mac Andrew
5. Gold Coast - Finn Callaghan
6. Adelaide - Josh Goater
7. Hawthorn - Josh Ward
8. Fremantle -
9. Richmond -
10. Fremantle -

That makes sense why GWS were only slightly interested in Lobb.

If Erasmus and Rachelle are both on the board still at our first pick who do we take?
You’d take Erasmus first. I doubt Richmond would be after a small forward with their pick in between ours, so you could conceivably take Rachele with our second. Whereas there’s a possibility they take Erasmus if we take Rachele first.

Apart from Hobbs and Gibcus (perhaps Sinn) I think we get a good list fit with all of those options.
