Have any of the SANFL watchers on here seen Casey Voss play, Sturt's B&F winner and the Fos Williams medal winner for the SANFL v WAFL game. At 21, is he worth a look at? His old man could certainly play!

We’re the main option for Brisbane to trade with to get more points.. I’d rather we tried to get our hands on 2 of their 3 x future 3rds as opposed to just going up a few spots (not much difference between pick 34 & 41 when their picks get swallowed up in the bid)

Hawks - Future 3rd (Dogs), Future 3rd (Cats)
Lions - pick ~50, pick 65, Future 4th (Lions)

Then to see if we can work with Essendon on picks 48 & 52 to get some value back..

MM must’ve worked out a plan with the later picks because I read somewhere Wrighty saying Mitchell for a 2nd rounder was basically done until very late when it all moved around.. quote below

“It sort of happened around 7:00pm (Wednesday night) that it started to come together. We thought the Mitchell deal would be a possibility with (a second round pick)… then Cooper Stephens obviously wanting to get to Hawthorn,” Wright told AFL Trade Radio after the trade period had concluded.

Agree. With the suns having 2 top 15 picks we need to position ourselves for their first rounder next year

With him and Callow we'll have a few more top 10 talents on our list.

do the suns have highly rated academy players next year ??
Jed Walter at this stage looks to be the KPF of the draft, he’s part of GCS academy.

From my understanding of the new rules they wont be able to match a bid on him providing he goes as high as expected however.

I don't think those rules apply to the northern academies, only NGAs

Impossible to find concrete information on this, but I have memories of hearing it mentioned more than once.

Package up our 2 2nd rounders and our 3rd rounder next year for the Suns 1st next year. 2 picks in the top 10 next year would be gold! Gold Coast have already loaded up on future picks for all these academy kids. Luckily the AFL have changed the rules meaning the Suns have to match a bid on likely top 10 pick Jed Walter as well as others like Read and Rogers.

Colier Dawkins from the tigers another big midfielder who was pick 20 in 2018 for the tigers and has been delisted after 11 games only?
From what Ive seen defensively wasnt great , but is that big bodied ball winner who is pretty good in close.
Might be worth a look to bolster the midfield further as a free hit.

The way we use late draft picks they are like first round picks for us.

Lewis
Moore
Morrison
Worpel
Sicily
Koschitzke.

Genuinely think we could have a good midfield core that just needs to grow already. Newcombe, Moore, Ward & IF Worpel can recapture his bnf form. Then add the likes of Nash, Maginess, CMac who didn’t get much of a look in the guts, potentially Day & now acquiring Amon and Stephens.. that’s a good core imo.

Obviously you go with talent first but I’m hoping (unless Wardlaw/Tsatas/Sheezel slide) for Humphrey or Phillipou. 2 guys that can run through the middle and have an impact but are dangerous up forward.

I said it after watching the city v metro game but Humphrey looks like he could take a game by the scruff.

I don’t see it happening but if we somehow get Reid next year then we are lauuuughing.

That does ring a bell.

Information certainly is scarce.
There’s a short article I found that says they can match any bids the change is previously they could just take them hence why they have loaded up next year.

Jed Walter rumoured to be top 5 so their first pick would be available given you expect they climb again next year. Picks 1 and say 8 expecting they pass st kilda would be awesome and we could do that’s suns swap now. Would have to give 25,30,44 to do it then get back in later for McCabe. Get on the front foot hawks!

Edit: afl have blocked the trade and outlined that instead pick 8 goes to Geelong with Ben King for a future fourth.

Yes, they have 3

Jed Walters, 195cm kpf, most goals for the Allies this year, strong, powerful, aggressive, also kicked a lot of goals against NAB League teams, surprisingly quick for a big man too, likely early 1st round (top 5 at this stage)

Jake Rogers, quick agile little mid, similar to Darcy Jones this year, can kick a goal too, again played well against NAB League teams and for the Allies this year

Ethan Read, an athletic KPP who impressed people at the champs and 1 that Cal Twomey is keen on, very high potential

All 3 likely top 30-40 picks with Walters potentially very high.

It’s all well and good to talk about getting lions picks but how does that work with the rule about having open list spots to match draft picks? If we trade 48 50 and 65 for 36 for example (as it’s the same as 34 when Ashcroft bid matched but gives them an extra 40 points) then don’t they need 9 open lists spots to match their 9 draft picks?

they can have 10 draft picks and only have 4 list spots available

best case scenario is we give Essendon 48 50 52 65 for there 22 if a Davey bid comes in before 22

another scenario is we give lions 50 52 65 for there 34

I can’t find the rule but there are several articles eluding to it talking about stopping clubs stockpiling late picks to match father son and academy bids so I’m not sure that’s right. I think once it starts everything is allowed and we could do those as live trades. Also I thought clubs couldn’t trade their next pick once a bid has been lodged which would scupper the 22 trade unless we did it prior. All of this should be freely available to us but I can’t find it

Thanks for the insight, we need to stock up on future assets so we can be well placed to deal with Suns next year.. they have a future 1st and 2nd as well as GWS future 2nd which you’d guess they’ll be looking to move on for points
