Elijah Hewett is a neutral

I don't know about football ability but Elijah Hewett has some life smarts about him

I already had us pegged to take Darcy Jones with our second rounder but after reading that article above I’m completely sold.

We have picked kids with great character under Sam, and as well as Jones being electric you’ve got a kid who’s prepping for uni while working three jobs and helping looking after special needs kids.

I liked the look of him from the Gibney highlights. Lightning quick & seems (from highlights) to find a target by foot.

Sold.
I like players whose change of speed creates advantage. And not just leg running, or acceleration, or sharp cornering - all of which he shows very nice quality of, but when you release the ball to create flow or put the opposition to least advantage.
He gives the ball off early and quickly by either hand when it's appropriate, holds it just that second longer when that will serve better, has OUTSTANDING awareness of who's around him, and is super neat skills wise.
Think he'd be brilliant for us.

My only issue with Ginbey is that he doesn't strike me as that super quick change of direction type who can adjust in the center bounce area to all the different movement of ball and players going everywhere. Fantastic if on his bike in space and can split his opponents with power and size, but not that incredibly shifty-in-congestion mid who leaves the opposition guessing where the ball is going next.
IMO, we need a turn on a dime, super quick and nimble player as point of difference, one who can out-quick his opponent to a bumbling ball on the deck or shark it on the move, rip an oppo player down if second to the ball, as well as quickly exit congestion should it get farmed out to him and have the lowered eyes to pick out a teammate to advantage in space.
Mackenzie looks all of that to me.

My major issue with Ginbey is that he looks like he could be a High Greenwood type. Just not the player you use pick 6 on.

He likens himself to Jack Crisp as he also plays as a back flanker.

Will all due respect to both of those players, we'd be hoping he goes well beyond those comparisons if we selected him.

He has a nice left foot, can win the ball. But otherwise I agree with that, we need the pace and playmaking of McKenzie or Phillipou (or the higher ranked miss if they're available at our pick, though that seems highly unlikely). If we think we can fix Humprey's kicking, then he'd be in the frame too.

Crisp is a gun midfielder. If we drafted someone that turns out to he as good as Crisp is then we have done well.

Quality kid, we are going to need a pick in the teens to get him though.

I am friends with his Dad, he is a ripper kid from a ripper family. Darcy would be ideal for us.

Hopefully a few teams get scared off by the fact that he's (shock horror!) only 178cm...
