Im not a fan of Selwood, but this is just ridiculous
Fantastic player but his legacy will be milking head high tackles. Phillipou is an outstanding talent and I didn’t hear anything in that interview that concerned me. Rarely see a top sporting talent lacking in confidence. Has the most weapons of any kid in this draft.

People keep saying that, but his legacy isnt milking head high tackles, its a simplistic sour view which is really only shared by salty opposition fans

He will be a Legend in time

Apparently Dodo met with Phillipou 3 times in the last week. Sounds like we're a big show to land Tsatas at 6.
TD you more than anyone knows the games Dodo likes to play. This is the old look at this hand hand while I jerk you off with other type move.

Is that the move we all did as teenagers, so we could imagine it was someone else?

(sorry, totes innapropes)

I think Phillipous confidence is a really good thing. Over the past few years we've drafted players with great character who are clearly team first players but I think it's time to get a player in who really invokes a sense of competition in the locker room.

His confidence will be backed up by hard work because no one really gets to the position he's in without working hard and he said in the interview even if he's not considered the best he knows he can work hard enough to become the best. To me that seems like the perfect kind of confidence. He's not confident in purely his football skills, he's confident in his work rate and determination.

If he was in the NAB league this year I think he'd be going to North with pick 2 because there's no way he wouldn't dominate and also have that extra attention on him. If tsatas isn't available there's no doubt in my mind that we should take him. Mackenzie is a great player but we've been really conservative with our picks the last few years that it's time to take a swing at a potential superstar rather than a very good role player. Humphrey offers that same potential as Phillipou but to me the poo just offers so much more at this stage. A much better kick, for goal and on the field, a better mark, better and smarter ball user. Tsatas is the only one I think can rival him imo but it's looking like we'll only have the option of one as the other goes to essendon.

Correct. In my mind we either get Tsatas or Phillipou now.
Simply cannot lose.

Yeah TD I think you are right.
With Suns tasking Humphrey we get either Phillipou or Tsatas - which ever one Essendon doesn't take.
Essendon decides which one we get.

Exactly. Are Hodgey and Mitchell remembered for being dirty? No, they were hard players that are now legends of the game. Same too with Selwood. You cannot deny he's a champion player, a great leader and was a hard player that lead from the front.

100% - Hodge's banana in 2015 will get way more airplay over the years than putting Chad's head into a point post.

Pushing my case for Ginbey - just watch this and see the size difference between him and the others. Sturdy build even as a kid, will be a beast in an AFL environment

So was Matt Rowell but he's stagnated at AFL level since he hasn't gotten any bigger comparatively to his opponents.

I don't think he's our guy. Also doesn't have enough weapons over other guys we can select at the same pick.

The need for midfield talent and a quality small forward is the greater priority at that selection in my opinion. Even if we rated Weddle as best available. I'd lose my mind if Charlie Clarke or Kostanty were available and we picked another defender.
Best available. Pick off needs in the rookie draft, through trades, late picks and dfas. Simples

Yeah... We know his nickname. Just doesn't want to admit it.
Knightmare was calling him Son of Sam. I wonder why that one didn't stick

Not sure if you've kept up with the Phantom draft I'm doing for us over on the draft board, but curious to know what you think of Billy Dowling and Jakob Ryan who I took with our third and 4th selections.

I obviously really like them, hence why I picked them up. But I'm certainly not as informed as you.

from what i know and have seen, Billy Dowling is a good midfielder, tall and skinny, got fed the ball a lot from Phillipou for SA, he plays that Jordan Lewis role of getting fed the ball by the in and under mids, tends to hack it forward, so not sure on quality of disposal, but it seems ok, a first receiver type mid who works around the ground to get disposals, can win a bit of it, i believe he has high numbers in the sanfl u18s? good mid draft prospect, could develop into something potentially?

Jakob Ryan is a run and carry flanker, whether it be hbf or hff, has a nice kicking action on the run and tends to use it well, he was one of the better players for SA and looks likely to go in the 2nd round if i had to guess, we have a wealth of those types so i have not thought about him much, but could be a decent pick for us, also is a hawks fan and spent time with Sicily when he was down doing his combine interviews and athletics runs ect

I'm not sure anyone wants to hear it but Mark McKenzie is a big fan of Jhye Clarke. I'm not sure who has the last say in these choices with the new coach and new dynamic, but everyone should be very prepared for the outcome that the average sized and reliable yet seemingly uninspiring pick could be ours. Much the same as last season in fact, and looking at Ward's output this season I wouldn't be upset at all for history to repeat.

even though im not sure he is best fit for us Clark is the best in and under midfielder in the draft and with Tom Mitchell gone we might value that highly? idk?

It's never quite that simple though. Mackenzie even said leading into last years draft that there multiple players we like with our first pick but we'd be focusing on midfielders primarily. We may have rated Gibcus just as highly as Ward but still went needs based.

who will it be?

Elijah Tsatas - quick, accumulator, good endurance, contested side is a bit average, wing/first receiver, kicking can be a mixed bag, poor defensively, but thats normal for winger types
Cam MacKenzie - quick, smart, quality disposal, wins contested footy
Jhye Clark - grunt work mid, when in space good disposal, good mark for his size, was good early in season and poor late season, could be lack of endurance or injury or something?
Mattaes Phillipou - long goal kicking mid/forw, accumulator, good disposal, has tickets on himself
Bailey Humphrey - powerful mid, poor kicking at goal, injury history and concerns, good kicking in space as a mid, more first receiver than contested ball winner

I could go and find the hundreds of interviews with sleepy mark saying best available/talent for early picks but it will take too much effort.

Just don't melt too hard if we don't pick a small forward.

Rowell not the best example… was awesome in his debut games but has been hindered after having major knee and shoulder injuries

I doubt this to be be true. No way he is awake in most of them.......
