Do we really have in and under , first to the drop of the ball stoppage players on our midfield mix? I can see worpel doing it but the rest like ward, newc, McDonald are more your second reciever types from stoppage. That's one thing to consider when looking at someone like Clark.

Is Stephens this player?

who will it be?

Elijah Tsatas - quick, accumulator, good endurance, contested side is a bit average, wing/first receiver, kicking can be a mixed bag, poor defensively, but thats normal for winger types
Cam MacKenzie - quick, smart, quality disposal, wins contested footy
Jhye Clark - grunt work mid, when in space good disposal, good mark for his size, was good early in season and poor late season, could be lack of endurance or injury or something?
Mattaes Phillipou - long goal kicking mid/forw, accumulator, good disposal, has tickets on himself
Bailey Humphrey - powerful mid, poor kicking at goal, injury history and concerns, good kicking in space as a mid, more first receiver than contested ball winner
MacKenzie is the pick for me. Just looks the complete player.

from what i know and have seen, Billy Dowling is a good midfielder, tall and skinny, got fed the ball a lot from Phillipou for SA, he plays that Jordan Lewis role of getting fed the ball by the in and under mids, tends to hack it forward, so not sure on quality of disposal, but it seems ok, a first receiver type mid who works around the ground to get disposals, can win a bit of it, i believe he has high numbers in the sanfl u18s? good mid draft prospect, could develop into something potentially?

Jakob Ryan is a run and carry flanker, whether it be hbf or hff, has a nice kicking action on the run and tends to use it well, he was one of the better players for SA and looks likely to go in the 2nd round if i had to guess, we have a wealth of those types so i have not thought about him much, but could be a decent pick for us, also is a hawks fan and spent time with Sicily when he was down doing his combine interviews and athletics runs ect

Dowling's numbers are strong, plus he has an ability to push forward and mark the footy at its highest point. Could be the best available midfielder for us around that pick 40 mark IMO.

What I like about Ryan is his ability to use his strengths in multiple areas of the ground, plus his elite ball use. Yes, we have Will Day and Jack Scrimshaw who have that same skillset, but having all 3 of those boys available to you when you need to throw the magnets around would be priceless.

I've always considered first drop players to be a different type of mid to inside recieved, it needs a player who can read the ball in the congested areas with 360 sense of what's around him. Not sure if cooper is at the 'higher' level of this aspect of his game. We actually don't have one as it stands, we have more latter day Jordy/ Burgoyne types , so with that I'm leaning towards Clark at our pick as for 'needs basis'. But, if ( a big if) tsatas is there for the taking then I can see us nabbing him just for high end quality. So, if tsatas is taken then;
Clark
Humphrey
McKenzie
Phillipou
Are the high end choices left, but none of them provide the hard in and under that Clark does.

I’m been thinking MacKenzie for a while now however if Tsatas drops he’ll probably too tempting to pass on. The draft can’t come soon enough.

I know the consensus on here is for a midfielder But Matt Jefferson as a KPF looks really good I don’t know why Cal twommey has him at pick 12 from what I have seen he looks really good and he would be a great foil for Mitch Lewis

I'd rather take a mid and then Lemmey with pick 24.

Something about Phillipou's personality that doesn't sit well with me.
I've got doubts he'd fit in with our younger crop, if I'm perfectly honest.
Our young boys seem to be a humble lot. I just can't see them working with this bloke.
Perfect fit at the dons.

Think we need to be careful judging the character of 17 years old kids we’ve never met, trying to differentiate between confidence and arrogance is near impossible.

Let’s be real most young professional athletes aren’t going to be overly humble, including ours. I think it’s part of what makes most elite athletes great to be honest

The interview posted this morning was the first of his that I’ve seen & that (+ the footage) now has him ahead of Tsatas for me.

Haven’t seen the Hawthorn Big Footy cohort overreact this bad in almost a fortnight!

He'd be worth the punt İF we had a Hodge or a Jordy within the playing group. But aside from that, just like humper, they seem more frwd-mids than mid-frwds. Right now, with where our list is at, we desperately need full time inside midfielder or two .

Whether we get the Fwd/Mid this year & the Inside Mid next year or vice versa is largely irrelevant, though. With where our list is at, we kinda need 3-4 Mids so grabbing one of any type in this draft doesn’t matter - as long as they’re absolutely badass.

So was Matt Rowell but he's stagnated at AFL level since he hasn't gotten any bigger comparatively to his opponents.

I don't think he's our guy. Also doesn't have enough weapons over other guys we can select at the same pick.

I agree with the sentiments, but Rowell has had some terrible injury troubles. That's affected him more than anything, he still bounces off players.

İnside mids working together asap is a MUST! Trust me, we're getting pantsed in there. Sooner the better for Newk, worps, Conor Mac and ward.

McDonald drafted as an inside mid.

I can’t figure it either. He does sound mature with the way he talks about most things and still needing to work on his game, but he also says these things in such a way that it sounds like he’s just giving lip service to them.
It’s quite obvious that he’s convinced that he’s going very early, but it remains to be seen if this is something that clubs embrace or if they see trouble.

Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Sam and Mark finished their interview with him at Marvel.

Think it was Rendell that said some guys personalities are hard to get a proper read on - and phillpou may be that guy this year. Ie is the confidence a good thing (strong self-belief which is needed in afl) or a negative (big ego and may struggle with feedback and annoy teammates etc).

Clubs have multiple interviews with these guys to try to figure this out (and still get it wrong sometime).

Big LOL on all the Sigmund Freuds on this board, comical reading
