Just like Hewett and B. George?

Running out of locks here CK.

I still don't want Phillipou at our pick. I don't think he cracks it as a midfielder and his forward craft is good but not outstanding. Without getting into the ego debate, I'm not a fan of how switched off he can get as a midfielder, he's on blitzing half the time and ball-watching the other half. He doesn't take contact well in spite of his solid frame and doesn't put in a ton of defensive effort. Makes for a good highlight reel though. From what I've seen from other draft watchers, pretty much everyone has at least three of Tsatas, Clark, Humphrey, and Mackenzie ahead of him. I'll back our recruiters to make the right decision, but in the lead up he's still my least favorite player the board has been enamored with this week.
Hewett & the George boy definite A grade stars, would take them at pick 7 but clearly the club won’t be.

One of The Poo, Tsatas, McK2 will be available and (it’s a lock 🤣) one of them will be in Hawks colours.

isn't George injured. Can he play any footy in 2023?

There's no bad choice in that group.

He’ll likely play back end of 2023.
I don’t think he’ll play next year even if his right to go by the end of 2023 It wouldn’t make sense for the club that draft him they need to let him build the muscle and get confidence in the knee they wouldn’t let him risk doing it again for the sake of an extra preseason it would be a very similar situation to Elijah Hollands from Gold Coast he could’ve played at the end of last year but they let him build the confidence in his knee and slowly introduced him throughout the end of this year.

I hope posters here aren't diluting what my original reason behind going for someone like Clark over the poo. İt wasn't about the confidence thing, it was about what we ' really ' need for the here and now going frwd. Clark wouldn't be my first choice at pick 6 but he has traits of a player that we need in the immediate so that he can be locked in for 10 or so years along with ward and Newk as our clearance mid . Tsatas is my choice if not him then either of poo , McKenzie or Humphrey. But the club may go for Clark and if they did I wouldn't begrudge them.

I can’t figure it either. He does sound mature with the way he talks about most things and still needing to work on his game, but he also says these things in such a way that it sounds like he’s just giving lip service to them.
It’s quite obvious that he’s convinced that he’s going very early, but it remains to be seen if this is something that clubs embrace or if they see trouble.

Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Sam and Mark finished their interview with him at Marvel.
The lip service I'd be worried about SYL is the part where he says he'd be fine going interstate. Something about his body language when he said that just doesn't sit right with me. Yeah sure he will play for anyone but will he flee at first chance back to SA if he things get tough.

The reactions to Phillipou on this board (from a few well known posters too) leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.

Middle aged posters going so hard at a confident 17 year old kid, its weird. We even have mods getting involved in the pile-on!
Tbf are we surprised? Just imagine it like this, the blokes about a month older than me, yes he’s in a professional environment but what he is saying can be taken in two ways, everyone here is just piling on it and focusing on the possible negative point of view and speculating without any idea, it happens often it is purely worse in this case considering the age of the recipient.

First pick in this draft aside, I actually think there's quite a few players that may go deep in the draft that would be excellent for us.

Of the players that might be around our second pick onwards, I'd say there's about a dozen players who I could see us taking. The closer we get to draft night the more I think there'll be a lot of sleeper picks in this draft (copium/hopium).

*George, Hustwaite, *Jones, Keeler, *Binns, Bond, Clarke, *D'Aloia, Gillbee, Magor, *Munkara, Ryan, Clohesy, *Windsor

Of this list, players with * next to them are players I especially think would have a solid crack at regular senior football within the first 18 months of joining us.

D'Aloia is someone who I think in particular has the potential to join and play senior footy early on.
Hustwaite is someone I'd consider trading up for were we to be in a position to do so- joins our big boy mids but adds a slightly different skill-set which would be nice.
Keeler in the open market interests me, I see him going in the first round just on potential alone, but he'd make for an exciting prospect long term.

George, Jones and Munkara seem most likely that we'll take were they available for us

Vickery and Lawrence as potential free-hits in the rookie/cat-b area could be massive, too.

Every year posters become more confident on who are the ‘right picks’ in the weeks leading up to the draft despite no footy being played and not many people actually watching more than highlights. Just getting ready for the melts when X player is picked over X player who was rated higher on BigFooty.
All I know is that when MM wakes up and puts forward the name we will know.......

If he can take shit and bounce back like you do on here he'll be great.

Maybe all recruits should get a BigFooty account to start toughening them up...... ;)

So one of:
1st pick: Tsatsa, humper, Clarke, McKenzie, phillipou, ginbey maybe jefferson

2nd: Allen, Keeler, George, C Clarke, burgiel, Barnett, weddle, Cowan (likely only a few of the above will be available - will need a slider or two)

Later picks: Long, teal, maigor, munkara, Ryan, Dowling, (really hard to guess), maybe a project tall (foster?)

Our first two picks could really hinge on who slides. Eg both tsatas and Humphrey could be available or both could be gone. Most of the guys who look interesting for our 2nd pick are likely gorn - but hopefully someone we rate slides. If we walked away with tsatas and Allen + some promising later picks (long and teal?) appears a decent result (from the limited I really know about the draft)

Reading far too much into it. I don’t think the club is worried about go home factor - they’ll back their program and environment in. I think he’ll enjoy living in Melbourne.

Hahahahaha

It’s more so to the fact they’re freely doing it to anyone, let alone an afl draftee. It’s expected.

But again who tf cares about some of the horrible opinions here and if he reads them he’d laugh.

D'aloia in the third round would be a get for us. He is a monster in the clearances.

Quite a few posters here are old enough to remember Mitch Thorp.

SYL, if you don’t think that I’ve looked back on the time he was drafted and his career in partial with going back to enjoy old footy you’d be kidding yourself.

Burton was similar in a newer sense.

Is that a reason to shit on someone nobody knows?

You’d be old enough to remember the “don’t say anything if you don’t have anything nice to say”.

Determining whether Phillipou is confident in his own abilities while still being grounded enough, or whether it’s plain cockiness is a hard thing to judge when you don’t know who that person is, the clubs would know enough aswell through their interviews, though they can make mistakes, people are only guessing here, you can say what you think without being disrespectful or rude about it.
