I really think flying Phillipou and his Dad in has more to do with making sure the personality is going to be a fit. Making sure we feel comfortable that the work ethic matches the confidence is vital.

The bonus is, it keeps the Bombers on their toes and makes the Tsatas dream feel like a possibility.
Yea I agree. I know this stuff is serious these days but would we fly a kid and his dad just to mess with another club, albeit Essendon? I’d like to think we are a bit classier than that. Or am I naive?

I’d be very happy with any of those 3. Like others, would understand the appeal of Clark given our weak midfield and he looks the safe bet. But I want someone to get excited to go and watch
I don't get why people are already writing off Clark as unexciting and plain. He has some qualities that are really enjoyable to watch. Takes some brilliant back with the flight marks we haven't had from a midfielder since Hodgey left, and when the whips get cracking he's the type that will nail a steadying goal or rip out a ball from the bottom of the pack and deliver it straight to a team mate inside 50.

That's all great football, which is great to watch. There are certain players who might be more exciting in a comfortable win or blow out, but Clark is the type of player you pay to watch in hard fought games.

Do we really think Saints will cough up a F1 to move up 6 spots in this draft? Absolute madness and desperation from Ross if true.

Dons take Phillipou leaving Tsatas on the board.

Saints offer their first + something (future second) to move up to our pick.

5) Dons - Phillipou
6) GCS - Humphrey
7) Saints - Tsatas
8) Geelong - Clark
9) WCE - Ginbey
10) Hawks - Mackenzie

Our pick to the Saints for theirs and a F2, only to draft Mackenzie anyway, would be an amazing result.

I wouldn’t worry mate, I’m pretty sure we convinced ourselves that kid Thorp was a much better pick than that plain jane Selwood from Bendigo was going to be all those years ago too.

He's a battler, a good one at that. Good player who has limited upside however .I want a player who'll win us matches off his boot at pick 7. Tsatas, Phillipou or Humpreys in that order. I'd also take MacKenzie before Clark due to his better skills. We need more silk than warriors at this stage of our development.

A battler? Ffs.

We're the youngest team in the league by a stretch, having just got rid of our 2 best clearance players from what was already the worst clearance outfit and you think we need silk?

The best players in a young side are always going to be professional, self driven and strong leaders. Doesn't hurt he's also one of the few genuinely dual sided players in the draft and the best inside player available at our pick.

Prefer other players all you want, but a battler generally isn't being considered at his pick.

perrdan86 what's the issue with what I proposed? A F2 and the best kick available who is also a gun midfielder.
Hey mate,
Nothing necessarily wrong with it. A thumbs down is probably a bit harsh, haha.
It's certainly not horrible because I like the look of MacKenzie.
I just would prefer one of Tsatas and Philipou. Also, i think those 2nd rounders could be pretty valuable next year given it sounds like a far stronger draft. Possibly packaging the 2 and moving up.

That's all.

I misread your trade. Would give us 3 x 2nd rounders next year.
Not bad at all.
Is there a risk we don't get Mackenzie at that pick?

A dual sided kick with no penetration. An inside midfielder at less than 6 feet tall worries me. If we pick him i'll trust that our team have done the homework and that they believe he's the one and i'll welcome him. I just want a bigger mid to complement the mosquito fleet that we've been assembling.

Might get laughed at a little here, but he reminds me of ‘the Little Master’ when he’s exiting congestion, eyes are down and kicking to a target. Will not be disappointed if the hawks choose him.

I'm not sure I agree with his kick having no penetration, but considering Scott Pendlebury, Simon Black, Sam Mitchell and Greg Williams all fit the bill of dual sided kick lacking penetration I'm not too concerned.

Plus he's 181cm tall and will probably still grow the requisite couple of cm to take him to 6 foot if it genuinely matters, which it doesn't really - for him as an individual or for us as a team. Especially considering the midfielders we will be relying on next year are -

Ward 183cm
Worpel 186cm
Newcombe 186cm
Stephens 188cm
Maginness 189cm
Nash 197cm
Day at 191cm potentially rolling through as well.

Not exactly a mosquito fleet.

You can have Tsatas.
Is there some kid in the draft who is a complete loser, maybe even cheats at darts or with other sharp objects who wouldn't mind the black hole of being drafted to Essendon? Otherwise, we really shouldn't be wishing that fate on anyone.
