Package both up and bring in an elite player

Go on who is this elite player there isn’t one available. Logue sure isn’t worth more than one. If we are packaging both rather trade up for Busslinger

See I guess that is where our understanding of the subject seems to have deviated. I don't see any "obvious ramifications" to us playing Logue instead of McDonald.

McDonald is contracted for another two years. We shouldn't hamstring ourselves fo accommodate him when he's not going anywhere anyway. If we have a player who can offer more than McDonald, then we should absolutely take that opportunity. IMO Logue is that player. You don't agree, so that's fine. I guess we see Logue differently.

But I see absolutely no harm whatsoever in Logue playing forward for a season/half-season, McDonald continuing his development in the reserves for a season/half-season, and if Rampe or a McCartin goes down, we play Logue in defence and McDonald then gets his opening, and he's more prepared and capable of grabbing the opportunity with both hands. Both players end up in their preferred positions by the end of next year, with at least a year still to run on both of their contracts.

Even if you don't agree with it because you reaaaally rate McDonald or reaaaally don't rate Logue, I think the above is a reasonable plan based on sound logic. Certainly not a "shocker" as you called it earlier.

It offers us flexibility and options on the list, which I would take over the guesswork of simply assuming McDonald will take the next step OR that he will walk out the door if he's not getting regular games.

Logue has kicked 5 goals this year it's at best a brilliant hunch on your part that Logue would offer more as a forward than McDonald but there is absolutely no reason to believe it to be true. Is it really worth the opportunity cost of offering him a better contact than a team like the Bulldogs or Port absolutely crying out for a defender like him will offer? Especially given that his long term role isn't clear?

Does he replace Rampe? Sure we have Gould Fox who both look really capable of that so why? He's KPP depth? Should we trade in expensive depth or should we go to the draft and trust our actually existing depth in melican and Gould to cover us?

If Gould is leaving it makes sense to replace him and Logue is a good shout for that but we don't have that much to gain for this trade.

Ried and Franklin will be replaced by McLean and amartey in the best 22
 Nightmare in terms of dropoff.
I''m not sure McLean will even be back with us next year. Great stay at home forward option, great heart, but his lack of mobility for someone also no good in the ruck...
He's always looked like a guy that will put up big numbers at the lower level but won't quite make it in the AFL to me.
Maybe someone will value him more than we will this offseason. Could see Dogs going for him. Do we get a pick back? 3rd rounder I guess...
Happy to have him as depth given the heart he plays with, but I think he'll see greater oportunity elsewhere.

I think im a bit more hopeful than you about where those two could be at in a few years. But yeah absolutely no gaurentees there. I'm on the "another class key forward soon" train. Even if they do come good we will need depth behind them.

I can’t understand the concept of being so blasé about pushing Logan down the pecking order or losing him completely. It’s like nothing was learned after seeing Stephens grab his opportunity.

This is not an attack on caesar88 or anyone else. We all see this list differently etc. but after the uproar of losing Hewett and Dawson in the same offseason, can you imagine this board if Logan was poached because he was behind some b-grader that we traded in?

I can’t get on board with that idea at all. Too many risks. As soon as Buddy retires people are going to see a drastically different McDonald.

Can the one that replaces Buddy have 7kg of added muscle & the heart to crash packs and go the punch when he knows he's not going to mark it, instead of flopping about?
There is obvious potential with him, but gee he has a lot of work to do yet. Looks great on a clear lead, but needs to do a lot more.
I can see both sides of the argument with getting in Logue, but it's the draft capital that makes it a no for me. We could just try a McCartin forward next year if we really need. Just have to get another KPD or hope Melican comes good. Personally I'd like to take the best KPD in the draft if they are from Vic country, not Metro.

Not sure how old Ammartey is now, 22/3? But if Bud retires I think he could have a break-out type season. Huge potential there IMHO. Has decent hands, does the dirty work of bringing it to ground. Looks good as the ruck chop-out too. He's obviously been training at the Sam Reid acadamy for undersized rucks.
If Bud retires (and I wouldn't mind if he did tbh - hopefully as a Swans Premiership player) I''m having Joel in my supercoach team.

I still think Paddy can go to the next level if he's able to move to a full time interceptor def. We sort of defend in a way to free up Paddy so he can take the intercept anyway, but the acquisition of Logue would free up Paddy real nicely.

Forking over our two first rounders to snap him up seems a bit overkill. Maybe throw in a few futures with one of our firsts.

Keen to see what we go for in the draft. Think another inside midfielder is a high priority as well as depth. Really like the look of Szybkowski.

Henry Hustwaite I can see us going for. Reminds me of a Jordan Dawson type. Versatile, tall, can play mid/def, composed and is a good decision maker. He's 194cm too, so could be a future swingman. Gimbey is a similar one too.

Best available gen fwd like Brayden George could be an option as well.

Logue isn't much as a forward. Shown pretty much nothing up there. Would think one of the reasons he wants to leave is to play permanent defense. Sort of like Aliir.
He may be hanging out for a better offer. Certainly appears to be attracting interest, which, sadly, drives his price up. Can't see him being worth more than a low first (like ours) plus maybe steak knives (a future fourth or third maybe).
Totally agree about permanent defence - that's his niche.

Logue is bang average dunno why he's even a topic for discussion. Rampe and fox would eat him alive. Unless it's a barass type proper accomplished backman I'd rather hope we are not interested.

AFL.com reporting Melican is up for a trade. Makes sense for him as he is now down the list for key defenders and also for the club as we can use his contract for re-signings.

They are also reporting we have tabled an offer to Harry. They describe him as determined to stay with us. So as long as we don't low ball him, or another club comes in with something ridiculous, I'd be optimistic he stays. Which is a good thing as I can't really imagine him anywhere else.

Melican.
Does this mean Gould is staying? We won't be letting 2 x depth KPDs go.
Or, maybe we trying to trade one in? Logue??
Or, I thought he was a 'restricted' free agent next year (according to Footywire), meaning he's on big $$ next year. Salary cap management?

Harry
Good news. Good player, hard year with injury, can come in and play any time and play well. VERY good depth

He's still got a year to run on his contract so I guess if no offers decent to him come through, he's staying with us.

Eagles have confirmed they'll select Rankin if he goes through to PSD...suddenly the Crows board isn't quiet so arrogant any more.:laughv1:

Makes me sooooo happy.

No more PSD BS or trying to leverage position
