AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Last year he correctly called 13 of the top 15 picks. He clearly knows his ish and I think it's worth celebrating those in the footy media who can actually do their jobs well. It's also worth being a point of memery amongst us given his inability to do his job with us, which even he acknowledges and can laugh about. The best part (for me) is the posts after this one, that take anything he says/writes seriously in any manner.
As if his power rankings have any merit or meaning.

I’m going to declare my (stupidly early) WA draft crush for 2022.
Jackson Broadbent, a 202cm ruckman who debuted in the WAFL SENIORS (!) this year at age 16.
Mind-boggling that a 16 year old ruckman can play WAFL seniors.
See you in 2022 draft thread!
Sounds like a spud at afl level to me.DQ - What happened to this kid?
He didn’t develop this year to the same extent Barnett did.DQ - What happened to this kid?
Tbf, did he have McDonald being taken by North? Cause we would have absolutely taken DGB if McDonald was already gone2020 (Pick 4) - Denver Grainger-Barras
Indeed we would have.Tbf, did he have McDonald being taken by North? Cause we would have absolutely taken DGB if McDonald was already gone
If we went Allan with our first, I'd back the recruiters in on what they must see him becoming. Barnett at the 2nd would be great. The Herald Sun's call (Mick Ablett) on our Draft picks. Not a single small forward amongst the lot- which i think is gap.
SYDNEY
Picks: 14, 17, 42, 75
Ablett says: Coming off a 2022 grand final appearance with one of the competition’s youngest sides, the Swans now hold two first-round draft picks. List manager Kinnear Beatson is quietly assembling a sustainable force. A bigger body through the midfield to replace Josh Kennedy and learn from veteran Luke Parker would suit the Swans, as could a forward-ruck type.
Draft Prediction: Ed Allan — the son of former Hawk and Docker Ben — could be the surprise packet of the draft. At 194cm, he has the frame to suggest he could be a beast. Allan missed the first half of the year with a back injury, but his combine testing was off the charts. South Australian ruckman Harry Barnett at 202cm also begs the question.
As I’ve noted here before, I’m told (third hand, but by people involved in the WAFL) that both Sydney clubs have put work into Allan - but it seems so has everybody else. The Herald Sun's call (Mick Ablett) on our Draft picks. Not a single small forward amongst the lot- which i think is gap.

"A bigger body through the midfield to replace Josh Kennedy"
I don't mind it either, I'm not opposed to us having a big-bodied mid. I'm just opposed to the constant rhetoric around us needing a big-bodied mid. I don't think it cost us this year, I don't think size matters (wish my missus agreed), and I don't think any 18 year old we bring in is gonna be replacing anyone anyway.Whilst it's not exactly a Kennedy replacement, I don't mind the idea of a bigger bodied player on our midfield for a different look

Nothing meritorious in this whatsoever. His list just collates advice provided by Clubs.
Essentially just Cal "Kick It" Twomey.Nothing meritorious in this whatsoever. His list just collates advice provided by Clubs.
agree with the rhetoric of replacing JPK.. kinda like replacing the other Josh Kennedy or Joel Selwood etc.. They bang on using that phrase every year, but not once in all of history has a draftee instantly replaced a footy legend.I don't mind it either, I'm not opposed to us having a big-bodied mid. The reason I'm going with Hustwaite over Allan is that his strengths include composure, vision and ball use. Things we could definitely improve on out of the middle. If speed is what we want, or someone who can also play wing, we've got others who can do that. Warner and Rowy have enough burst speed. Gulden, Campbell, Paps, JMac could all be put in there if speed was an issue. Also wouldn't count out Stephens in a couple of years when he's fully matured. But would be fine with either, they seem to be the best inside mids we're likely to get a crack at. I'd be happy if Ginbey slid, but Hewett seems to have some issues I wasn't aware of, that put me off.agree with the rhetoric of replacing JPK.. kinda like replacing the other Josh Kennedy or Joel Selwood etc.. disagree regarding size.. Size absolutely matters in AFL (as it does in rugby, basketball, league etc)
Rowbum and Warner are both growing to be extremely strong humans, Mills is relatively tall and pretty bloody strong too.. but none are as tall and/or powerful as JPK
Petracca-Dusty- Dangerfield-Cripps (All Brownlow winners) wouldn't be as good if they were 10 kg lighter or 10 cm shorter
In regards to the Herald Sun article Ticky posted, if we got Allen & Barnett with our first 2 picks, Id be stoked
Just thinking about our average midfield height of 184.3cm though and how this year we beat Collingwood (avg of 189cm) twice, how we beat Melbourne (avg of 184.5cm) twice, how we beat Fremantle (avg 186.3cm), how we beat the Bulldogs (avg of 190cm).agree with the rhetoric of replacing JPK.. kinda like replacing the other Josh Kennedy or Joel Selwood etc.. I don't think it was an average of 1cm. It was 1cm in total.Just thinking about our average midfield height of 184.3cm though and how this year we beat Collingwood (avg of 189cm) twice, how we beat Melbourne (avg of 184.5cm) twice, how we beat Fremantle (avg 186.3cm), how we beat the Bulldogs (avg of 190cm).
We didn't seem to need a big-bodied mid on all of those occasions when the midfield was humming along just fine. One bad day against a midfield an average of 1cm taller than us and all of a sudden it's dire straits in the size department.
He’d tell us that he’s prepared to let Davey go, for both our firsts, our future first + Tom Papley.Id call Dodoro and say we are thinking of bidding on Davey at 14 just to be a jerk.
Sound stuff. Logical.Unlocked article from the Mongrel Punt

Personally I like the look of Allan and Hustwaite because they offer precision and strength, not just height.Just thinking about our average midfield height of 184.3cm though and how this year we beat Collingwood (avg of 189cm) twice, how we beat Melbourne (avg of 184.5cm) twice, how we beat Fremantle (avg 186.3cm), how we beat the Bulldogs (avg of 190cm).
