Since things are going so well I thought I’d start this now.

Draft watchers who are we keen on or who do we think could add to our list profile?
"our list profile?"

Are you Leigh Montagna ? Do you still visit that crazy white witch woman in Heatherton for predictions on your future ?
You know, the one with the boyfriend twenty years younger than her who runs the op shop sourced, second-hand clothes

One thing I want is for our nga cam Mackenzie to slip through to us after pick 40. He gets a good write up every week

That diabetic guy with Leprosy who steals cars each week while off his face on crack?

I'd love the Karl Amon talk to be correct. I think he's very under-rated for his output. Lays tackles as well so he works both ways.

How does the club see the Marshall/Hayes combo working? Is that our set up or will they want to keep RoMa as a forward/ruck with another tap option starting in the middle?

We have tried for both Draper and Xerri in recent years and with Ryder retiring I would expect us to look for another ruckman. Whether that's another young guy to pit against Heath in development or a more ready made option that we see coming in as our #1 I'm not sure.

Some of the 'back up' rucks around the comp -

Adelaide - Strachan
Essendon - Bryan
Fremantle - Meek
GWS - Flynn/Briggs
WB - Sweet

We might also talk to guys like NicNat (Williams) and Lycett (Hayes) about coming in for 1-2 seasons like Ryder did if their replacements are given the #1 spot at their current clubs.

I think we've been linked with Jack Payne from the Lions a few times but our backline has been very good this season so we might hold off on rocking that boat.

Otherwise our draft just needs to be mids, mids, mids again. Various types (inside, outside, wing, resting forward/back) but with a focus again on kicking skills. We can increase fitness and game sense/positioning. Skills are much harder to improve by the time these guys hit AFL level.

Bytel, Byrnes, Owens, Windhager & NWM are all pushing each other. Senior mids are all in form and finding their level. Guys like Ross and DMac are holding their place, which is great for us as competition for spots is red hot.

I'd also like to see us grab another small defender. If Paton goes out JWeb can play that role but we don't really have any kind of depth.

Jeez talk about tempting fate.

Retired: Gears, Hanners, Ryder

Delist if better available: Kent, Joyce

1. Take Amon FA
2. Trade Billings unless something spectacular happens to him this year like winning us a GF or such.
3. Trade for Brisbane's 1st pick.
4. Take 2 first round picks to the draft and walk away happy.

I don’t quite understand this one haha

Will take a fair bit of finger crossing and reverse j jinxing to get someone to fall all the way down to pick 41.

I hear he’s constantly betting on his team using Russian websites.

Brisbane don’t want their first pick cause they’ll get a top 3 kid from father son right? Ashcroft.

Could be a good option. 2 first rounders is ace give brisbane a bunch of fourth and third round picks to use for their matching

I wonder whether we see Campbell going around again or whether he’s just another ruck on the 1 year merry go round.

Could paddy stay on just as a vfl coach for Heath + possibly a drafted ruck?

I think Marshall Hayes + eventually Heath is a good succession plan. In a couple years Hayes and Marshall will be 28-29 and Heath will be 20-21 I think. Marshall will be super ready to be the number one ruck and Heath/Hayes the forward rucks. If need be there’s no reason Hayes can’t be a full time forward either. Just means he competes directly with Membrey/Sharman.

Mid Season Prospects.

Casey Voss ( SOM) General Defender ?
Harvey Hooper, 23YO defender now playing midfield at Port Melb ?
Dawson 22 YO inside mid?
Josh Cripps ?

Plenty who didn't get drafted.

Thoughts on this bloke? Sandy boy, vice captain and small forward. 183cm models himself on Toby Greene.

Could be the Rachelle of this year. Or another Jack Higgins.

There are some positive views about Voss. But who knows ?

Or trade those 2 first rounders for a better one.

Interesting. We (somehow) went for a bulk buy approach last year and snagged like 4-5 good prospects, 3 of which have already played and Sharman/Heath adding to that.

Creates a good core of youth to develop at once. Especially because they’re all different types.

Maybe cashing in to bring in one top of the top pick to add into that developing core is better than bringing in a bunch more 16-30 picks who are all a similar level.

One young star to infuse excitement

gringo2011 ’s favourite Trudgeon another look at?

Not sure the issue with Trudgeon, but i'd have thought the Blues would have given him a shot by now unless there is something obvious.

With Clark , Jones , Bytel , and Byrnes not currently getting a game , and Owens already with a taste, I'm not overly concerned with drafting a rookie VFL mid.
With Heath not looking the worst option to get a game if we needed, I wouldn't mind us drafting one of the Rucks who didn't go 2021. ( There are still a few games at state level to look at before mid-year.).
Not sure about the key defender spot. With Oscar fresh out of the draft is it too much to rookie one of his peers? A mature ( Shlong ) ?
With Peris and Kyle some way off, i wouldn't be opposed to a state level small crumbing forward.

To me the small/medium forward line is the one spot we haven’t got young pressure on the seniors.

It’s Dan Butler pressure forward, Long, Higgins and Gresh first picked but Gresh is a mid/forward.

Kent most want out.

Kyle and Peris options but very late development types. So not exactly knocking down the door yet.

Defence has Highmore, Coffield, Clark, Connolly waiting for a spot

Mids has Owens, Windy, NWM, Bytel, Byrnes

Ruck has Heath and Hayes

Forwards has… no one

Seems the only place we could inject a top prospect without stealing someone else’s spot or upsetting the balance too much. A top 10 mid obviously would never be unwanted but it pushes out Byrnes or Bytel down the order as the older young ones if our newest crop continues their improvement.

A young gun small forward takes Kent’s spot and puts the right amount of pressure/excitement into the position

Yeah it would need to be someone we had in mind.

What’s wrong with schlong? Every poster here and on other boards thought he’d be the most sought after as a young but not baby key defender. Dougal howard’s size. No one picked him.

Yeah it would need to be someone we had in mind.
Sheezel is my pick right now. Maybe recency bias of seeing Rachelle have such instant impact. Or Higgins being a dominant freak off his footy IQ and natural talent. Or the Toby Greene hype in the media. Kozzie Pickett in the Dees group great last year too.
