I’m still very keen on Hayes - measured in at 199cm, still plenty of growing to do with a late birthday. He will be the perfect matchup for the 200+ athletic forwards.

But it looks like we’d have to nab him at 12 to be a chance. With the talk Collingwood and Carlton Keen on him (he may even be gone…)

I'd much, much rather see us get someone like Mackenzie or Hollands with our first pick, then Hayes or Weddle with our second, than to see us taking Busslinger at 11 and the 15th best mid of the draft at 21.

Hope he doesn't grow too much more. As a general rule I'm not keen on KPDs over 2m tall. He would need to have elite marking and/or spoiling talent to be an exception (like Sam Darcy).

Give me a shorter but more mobile KPD who can compete in the air but is still OK handling the ball below his knees.

There's one of them that has elite mobility in the draft - Weddle. Hope he's still there at 21 (23)
I want Weddle just for his name. We can have great fun with it.

Even if he's a widdle short for a wegular KPD.

I was pleasantly surprised by Hayes combine result for speed. Sub 3 seconds.

Could get Busslinger at 11 and one of the top small forwards in it at 21.
I honestly don't rate Buss that high, and would rather spend a slightly lower pick on one of Hayes, Weddle or Van Es who I don't feel are really far behind (if at all). If I had it my way, I'd be going midfielder/wing at 11, small forward at 21 then either Van Es at 39, or Phillips as a rookie/late pick.

In saying that, there is the risk that Van Es and Phillips are both gone before those picks. I really wouldn't want us finishing this draft without a KPD

Well that's a good start but it would only be straight line speed.

How is he for agility? Ball handling? (especially collecting the loose ball) Decision making in contested play?

yeah, that’s my big worry. If there was a way to guarantee Phillips or Van Es at our third pick I’d be more okay with going best available at our first two (though I’d still prefer two KPDs). With that not being possible I’m super hesitant about not taking a KPD early. We could even get to 21 with both Weddle and Hayes unavailable and be a bit up shit creek.

There's probably 1 or 2 that they could take like Gruzewski or McCallum. McCallum sounds like Wood with speed and intercept marking.

Wtf is Sheehan smoking that makes him say Bailey Humphrey is a neat kick off both feet, he’s honestly one of the most inaccurate kicks of the players touted to go in the first round and that’s off his preferred

I'd just like to know what I'm missing with Humphrey. Him and Tsatas I feel are being seriously overrated tbh. The top end of this draft is among the worst that I can recall.

I'm not a huge draft watcher or anything, but I feel like guys like Tsatas and Humphrey would normally be prospects that teams are looking at in that 8-12 range rather than the 3-6 range like they are currently.

Probably more so Humphrey than Tsatas tbf.

Reminds me of the wraps on Wines when he got drafted, not as high a ceiling as some of the other guys in the top 10 but there's no doubt that they at least become a good player.

I think if you look at the way both players influence games you can see why clubs are excited for them.

Humphrey in particular is able to enforce himself on games in the manner of the powerful mid forwards who have been dominating the game at the top level for a while. He’s not perfect but with work has as much upside and anyone in this draft pool and we’ve seen players in that mould take teams like Richmond and Melbourne to the top in recent years.

A few months ago I thought Ginbey would slide a bit…. My perfect draft was thus:
Ginbey
Weddle
Clarke

None of those guys will accept being beaten 1v1. It’s is what our team really needs.

Hayes has a bit of aggression too, so I don’t mind him…. IF we rate him first round, then so be it. IF we take him OR Busslinger, I hope we would still draft Weddle IF Clarke, Jones, Konstanty, George are gone.

After a few conversations with a few people who I trust in their opinions about draft classes. IF you combined this and next years draft classes. Next year has 10 players who would be picked in the first round even though they are a year younger.

I am looking forward to having 2 first round picks next year, particularly that earlier Lions pick. I don’t think we will lose anyone next year we want to keep but those picks are going to really help us long term.

It was also mentioned that Tsatas, Hotton, Busslinger; are all going to go later than Phantoms are putting.

Yes. Humphrey has a lot of good stuff to work with. That power, forward craft and agility is a great combination.
I dislike his decision making but he can improve that under an elite forward coach….

Apparently someone thinks it a destination choice. Wants to go to a Victorian club.

Yep. The mail we got was something along the lines that his family situation/attitude might indicate he would be better off going interstate. Maybe pressure from family is full on/is a red flag?

No idea, maybe it's nothing, but it was mentioned by a very respected poster and raised some eyebrows on our board, and it's only now that the rumour is showing some legs in the media.
