Imo they had too many mids who couldn't play the lesser role to a high level. Taranto was the best of the bunch who did it with his forward impact.

I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume that every 'top draft pick' (let's face it, both Daicos and Ashcroft would've gone pick 1 if not for their F/S ties) will be the best first year player ever, from here on out.* The junior system is better than ever at readying juniors for senior footy, particularly the elite ones.

* Key talls being the exception; they naturally take longer to develop and are physically disadvantaged relative to mids/flankers.

Mitchell is a 'get the handball from behind a teammate who's just won a freekick' merchant. That's how he gets half his disposals. I doubt he makes much of a difference especially when most of Collingwood's success came off pure grit and ability to keep the ball flowing.

He's be full on favourite for Rising Star and he hasn't even played a game yet he's been that impressive.

Its gonna take him more than a few months for his tactics to get familiar with that group.
