Looking at the matches over the weekend there are some teams that will struggle. Saints and Bombers were lucky they played each other. They were both atrocious. Freo were not that good in beating Port. Port were terrible. So, here are teams I think will struggle:

Saints: They are in a rebuilding phase. They have taken Ross The Boss' lessons in defence to heart and are able to move the ball. But against good opposition they will struggle, especially with injuries

Bombers: They looked terrible. No cohesion between forwards and mids. Their defensive actions were non existent. They will get a few players back but not many. Scott seems to dislike Hind who I felt was their most valuable player last season. A long season to come

Eagles: They were thrashed by the Crows. They were poor. I think there are too many ageing stars and not much else. Their depth is questionable. A long season coming

North: Nobody expected very much and they did not disappoint by producing vrn less. Bottom by the length of the field

Port: They fielded a pretty strong squad. But were absolutely atrocious. They had no system. Their forwards were poor. Their delivery was poor. The field kicking was worse than an Under 8's team. Freo ground them into dust over the game

Freo: They were not great either. Very scrappy. Had a few out but they are ugly to watch and there is a definite doubt about their scoring power. Not convincing

Suns: Didn't look good but had quite a few players missing. I think with the experienced players back they still have enough talent. But they would be là bit worried about the lack of depth against a side who
Finished bottom 5.

Surprised:

Hawks: They gave Pies a big fright. Defence does not seem a priority though and good forward defensive sides will find them out

GWS: They annihilated the Suns. Looked very good. Played lots of young players. Lots of talent on show

Crows: They murdered Eagles on Eagles home tuprf. Very professional performance. Good defence and have lots of scoring power

Even though its preseason, the rest of the games were much more enjoyable to watch after a win. May this trend continue into the real season.

Can’t see us losing to GC even if they are our bogey side

All this talk about a 4th umpire watching the defenders/forwards, but what's the chance Bud will get mauled and not get paid any frees
I mean, it was happening yeateday. Happens all the time. Defender has their arms wrapped around from behind, no free, commentators praise the defender's "physical work"

Hobbies (on this thread): Reporting spectacular melts from Norf and Carlolton fans.

Salt production was in overdrive this weekend. Unhappily there were a few Blues who were sensible about a praccy match defeat. Happily there were many ott posts. No one does bitter like the Blues. Sooo good.

Norf proved a different case entirely.

Since last year the optimism on the Norf Board has been crazy. The members of the17 families who support Them have divided their time between defending Clarko, slaughtering Horne Francis and madly over rating their list. The routine flogging by Footscray was a shock to many if not the most. Some rationalised that the Dogs must be top 4 material. It dawned on the less stupid that Norf are many years away.

All good fun.

That rat Sam Mitchell on SEN was talking about they're rebuild , then said Geelong have been topping up and Sydney have had advantages that other haven't , i have always hated this bloke even before he made VFL

Because getting Tassie as a financial backer and then all the tanking didn't help.

Plus all the topping up they did in their successful years. Spare me

Blithely ignoring the fact they tried topping up and botched it.

Cotchin elbows a defenceless tackled player in the face & gets nothing more than a trivial fine.

Some things never change.
Both he and DeGoey should have got a week. Cotchin was deliberate and DeGoey was a clear slinging motion. You watch some poor no-name do the same thing in a couple weeks for a completely different result.

Yeah, those dastardly Swans and their ill gotten advantages.... stability, respect, clarity of purpose, proper governance and positivity.

Mitchell can piss-off to Tassie and take the Saints, North and Hawthorn with him. Between those 3 flops they should be able to make one decent team... even under his leadership.

Until the recent kerfuffle I had not idea Magpie members kept their seat when they played other MCG home teams. What a complete rort, no wonder the other clubs are spewing.
Yes I hope all the other MCG home teams who leave Victoria like three times all year will be OK

To be fair it’s easier for the parole officers to keep a track of the Pies members if they sit in the same spot.

Remember that show (might have been AFL 360, I can't remember) where a half dozen of the biggest CEOs (Sydney, Bulldogs, Collingwood, etc) came together to discuss a range of topics. I remember all the CEOs agreeing to most equalization measures except Eddie. Eddie maintained that the health of the competition was predicated on Collingwood being strong over and above equalization measures.
