Just another step closer to proving how morally bankrupt some aspects of our great game have become.

I don't think anyone bar me pondered whether a Jewish kid may have been unknowingly administered the legal drug cerebrolysin (a pigs brain extract) during the saga. We and the AFL only cared if it was on the banned list. I always suspected mum may well have been 'Sarah' on 3aw.

None on here gave two shits when we delisted the Kiwi players after a couple of failed years on minimum bucks. Many on here haven't given two shits about Sandy (as a club).

It's win at almost all cost. Only now are we slowly waking up and questioning the 'whatever it takes' culture that I'm sure permeates all clubs.

Great that we have sought to heal the wounds with Robbie Muir, but awfully sad it took an earlier Russell Jackson piece for that to occur.

A sad day for AFL and will be interesting to see how it plays out given the names and clubs involved.
Heaps of young blokes are delisted after being on minimum AFL wages. What’s being Kiwi got to do with it?

The abortion issue is probably a lot bigger than Clarkson and a lot wider than the Australian indigenous community.

One can only imagine how many sportspeople were pressured by their coaches, board, sponsors, etc to ensure their partners had abortions. I shudder to think how many female sportspeople were coerced in this way.

And that's just sport. Think of other entertainment contexts. What a can of worms. Could be another #metoo tsunami.

Getting back to this issue, it's worth remembering that this was not "In the old days". We're talking 5-6 years ago.
great point

Yes I agree, but the Kiwi's were lured o/s and away from family, friends, and career on about a 50/1 shot. In many cases they were promising kids in other sports (rugby) and I at least hope they got a meal on the flight home to start over. At least the Irish lads were a proven chance and the interstaters generally have lived and breathed AFL from a young age.

Mountain-Silbery was 16 when Bains and Co. went over.

I doubt any of the Kiwi kids we recruited were a good shot of a pro rugby career if they decided to give AFL a crack, the good shots wouldn't do that.

I doubt Mason Cox was any chance of a pro football or pro basketball career in the States when he decided to chase a pipedream to play AFL here.

The Irish kids are a bit different with most of them being Gaelic football stars, they just don't get as much money there as they would playing AFL here.

Being a Gaelic football star isn't always a guarantee for AFL success though as we saw with Tommy Walsh, even the Swans couldn't turn him around.

Not on BigFooty to everyone's benefit.

He's currently oscillating between it being leftist moralistic outrage pr0n from the ABC and a Jeff Kennet plot to sink Clarkson.

The only thing he's certain of is that none of it happened.

Lol what a turnip

I saw him say that it was a ploy to get at North Melbourne. I have subscribed and look forward to future updates.

I can’t see Clarko and Fagan coming back from this. Even if an investigation is done and the outcome is that there is no clear evidence and even if defamation settlements were made due to lack of proof, I still don’t see them surviving. The simple fact that there are multiple accounts of poor treatment or perceived pressure on family lifestyles, and the specifics of some of this shit, there’s at least a bit of truth in it, even if interpretations of the exchanges are different. Cannot see a club wanting them in charge of a group of adolescent men.

You could spin it as they were simply giving fatherly advice, trying to be supportive and it was misinterpreted in tone or attitude as a best case scenario. But at the end of the day a senior coach has no place trying to pressure or influence someone to having an abortion with their partner, simple as that, if there’s concerns for abuse or manipulation then bring one of the many staff at the club who might have a better ability to discuss with them. Or better yet a professional outside of the club, so there’s no perception that the club has any decision making or influence on the issue. It’s just bizarre.

I’ve been stewing on it all day and trying to think of a scenario that might explain it somewhat, but even the best outcome given those details are still at best inappropriate from the coaches.

One of his followers was in the replies pointing out the hypocrisy of the ABC investigating Alastair Clarkson but not investigating Daniel Andrews.

It was about that point I decided it was better for my mental health to close that tab 😂

Both forced us to do something to our bodies that we didn't want to do, I see no difference 😎

In all seriousness, had anyone running the “context” line of defence actually read the ABC article?

The direct quote stories not only show the context of the conversation they also make it clear that no context would have been acceptable given the nature of the discussions.

At this point the only defence is “it’s all made up” and if you think that then more power to you.

What’s his @? I need a laugh.

Don’t want that Mrs Doubtfire tossbag anywhere near the joint.

I thought Dani Laidley went alright at North, got the most out of a pretty ordinary list.
