The fact this show had/has an audience shows how badly we need a mass extinction event.

Every now and then I flick through the free to air channels and see what kind of grey matter degrading crud they’re pushing now. It’s always a bemusing experience.

I saw an ad for “The Masked Singer” at one point. What in the **** is that pile of trash?

I reckon the AFL should talk Eddie into leaving Geelong (or he just decides to leave) and taking up a role at the AFL to oversee the inevitable changes coming in regards to how indigenous people are treated within the industry. I just watched last night's 360 and him speaking about all this and his experiences was powerful. That stuff about him and his kids at the pool and how he feels like he doesn't belong in this country had me a bit choked up having experienced (not on ANY kind of similar level) racism as a young kid from white Australians and how my father was treated when he was growing up because he was different/didn't speak the language when he came here with my grandparents in the early 60's. As a kid I had moments where I felt I didn't belong either, so if that's my experience on a far smaller scale I can't even begin to think what this is like for Eddie and others.

Maybe Eddie doesn't want to be a spokesperson and just wants to continue to help coach Geelong, but for what's going on he seems to be courageous enough to (unfortunately) repeatedly come out and speak on these issues and I hope he sees that he has an opportunity here that goes beyond football.

I reckon this is hands down the worst event in the history of the league. Obviously with the caveat that if the allegations are true, but the fact that there's so much detail and that it's forced people to step down from their roles suggests to me there's some truth in it at the very least.

I also thought it was odd that Robbo was trying to, in a roundabout way, defend Clarkson and Fagan by questioning the validity of the story and when he said he felt sad etc it seemed to me that he felt sad about the game coming into disrepute and the timing of it potentially ruining the spectacle of the Grand Final, not the fact that other people had been vilified in this way. But that's just my take on how he was acting on last night's show, the feel I got from listening to him speak. Gerard was far more empathetic I felt.

Been a real eye-opener for me in terms of the culture within football clubs and professional, elite sporting clubs at that. I always knew there was an undercurrent of racism or bogan "boys club" behaviour at all clubs but this is such an in your face moment that it just can't be swept under the carpet or ignored. There's got to be considerable change at every level and if some of the staff at our own club are thrown into this then so be it. We just have to rid the game of this kind of mentality.

I reckon we're always going to get the knuckle-dragging drongos online who will hurl abuse, not sure what can be done about that personally and I am definitely against the implementation of ID verification for social media. But the AFL can actually make systemic and permanent change within football clubs and to an industry that has seemingly left a important part of our game for dead.

Not sure what else to say, the alleged actions are just beyond comprehension.

Hat's off to Cyril for kicking this off and also and I can't believe I'm saying this, but hats off to Jeff Kennett for calling for the report.
Kennett and his casual (outright?) racist attitudes was, in the end, the reason Cyril Rioli left and is why Rioli has never been back to the club.

Seems like those attitudes were rife at the club when Kennett was president so he's getting nothing from me.

I also think that Collingwoods report was more of a catalyst than anything else.

The first club that does one of these reports and actually takes on board the actions and recommendations will get praise from me. The report is only only one step.

I can’t see Clarko and Fagan coming back from this. Even if an investigation is done and the outcome is that there is no clear evidence and even if defamation settlements were made due to lack of proof, I still don’t see them surviving. The simple fact that there are multiple accounts of poor treatment or perceived pressure on family lifestyles, and the specifics of some of this s**t, there’s at least a bit of truth in it, even if interpretations of the exchanges are different. Cannot see a club wanting them in charge of a group of adolescent men.

You could spin it as they were simply giving fatherly advice, trying to be supportive and it was misinterpreted in tone or attitude as a best case scenario. But at the end of the day a senior coach has no place trying to pressure or influence someone to having an abortion with their partner, simple as that, if there’s concerns for abuse or manipulation then bring one of the many staff at the club who might have a better ability to discuss with them. Or better yet a professional outside of the club, so there’s no perception that the club has any decision making or influence on the issue. It’s just bizarre.

I’ve been stewing on it all day and trying to think of a scenario that might explain it somewhat, but even the best outcome given those details are still at best inappropriate from the coaches.

You can't see how this gets spun out of. It's really damning. I guess we've come a long way since a decade ago when people like Eddie McGuire were stumbling over apologies making things worse and fans booed Goodes for making a stand.

I heard someone on radio saying that they'd offered him the gig for the show and he laughed at them. Apparently it's the most popular show in Australia and the hosts are getting paid a fortune to sell their dignity. Humanity seems to have peaked in the past and started to devolve.

Even without the straight out racist aspect it's just so morally bankrupt. It sounds close to evil like some eugenics campaign by football club. It's so ****ed up you want it to be over exaggerated. It sounds deranged.

Agree but always thought it was an uncanny resemblance.

Disgraceful club.

Really should relocate to a rubbish tip.

Oh, wait…

jwikked made a good point about not being sold on the racist aspect, as the reason this has all come out was because of a review the club was doing with only indigenous players. I'm finding it hard to believe personally but ultimately I don't know so I'm fascinated to see what the non-indigenous players said about it. I've only heard Hodge and Lewis speak on it and they've both said they were unaware but I struggle to believe that. Either the allegations are false or the players are lying about not knowing. How could something that serious not spread through the club or at the very least the playing group?

Burgoyne, Buddy and others at the club would be just as likely to know too then and I just can't imagine that it would have sat well with him. I probably tend to believe that the players didn't know.

Since I’ve been banned from the main and north board threads on the subject for calling out peoples shitty both sides calls, I’m going to talk about the issue here.

The North thread is ****ing atrocious. Just incredibly racist and bigoted posters in there that aren’t having posts deleted or given bans. Like, what in the actual **** is going on in there? Having their messiah guaranteed to be gone is turning them all into the biggest campaigners.

The other thing I can't understand is why Hill wants to go back and play for Clarkson, indigenous player or not. Don't know why anyone would want to play under Clarkson again if they came from that Hawthorn era.

It all points to the players not knowing what went on, but geez how the hell did that get kept quiet?
