Where is my Easter Egg?

It's coming. Nothing says welcome back Jesus like a pagan spring fertility festival to welcome the end of the austerity of a European winter in Australia that has become a commercial juggernaut that encourages strip felling of the world's rainforest to produce inedible egg shaped "chocolate".

I'm happy to take the criticism back my way. I've spent the last 10 years giving it out to Trout and his mates so I should take it when I put up my own opinions.

What critisisms? NWM over Hobbs? Give me a break. We wont know for years if you were right or wrong. Why can't both be great players. Rozee will be a very good get for Port but will he be better than King? the recruitment dept agonised over which one for ages.

NWM is very neat, and extremely talented. His kicking is superb and for a skinny 18 y.o. is deserving his place in the team, he will be very very good. But like Melbourne's Bowey he is debuting in a team on top of its game, that while, seniors is never easy for an inexperienced kid, it makes it a bit more comfortable when your team is not getting pantsed.

On a side note, we are winning impressively AND getting games into the likes of Windhager and Nas. That is a really unexpected but happy outcome and just feeds into my beliefs that judging what a team will do in the next season from their previous is to infer that it is a straight linear progression.

In Jan not many would have had
Lienert
Hayes
Windhager
NWM
in the starting 22.

Not many would have had us at 4-1 with Ryder, Billings, Jones, Clark, Coff and Hannerbery not in the team etc.

I wanted Hobbs as well and ultimately we probably won’t know for another 5 years but NWM is looking as advertised. He’s got some special traits with ball in hand. Paton wasn’t exactly in 30m of pace when that ball hit him, he threaded it through about 4 guys. Ridiculous.

It's still early in the season but I think after next round the door is officially shut for several teams.probably only about 11 teams that are seriously in contention for finals at this point.

Last year after 5 rounds, bombers (1-4) and gws (2-3) were the only teams outside the 8 to make finals and they scraped in at 7th and 8th.

Looking at the current ladder, the dogs look like the only obvious inclusion from the bottom half.

There are a few that have been unlucky and could get on rolls. WC have been playing with a reserves side, Port haven't had their book ends and injuries on top of that. Both should play for pride at some point but probably like our 2021 might be too late to do any damage. The Dogs are too good to not come back at some point.

There’s a good stat out there about how little the ladder changes after a certain round - I don’t have it on me but I’m sure it’ll pop up.

I almost feel like the difficulty of a fixture is a paradox. If Carlton’s fixture is truly easy (which it objectively is) they’ll play finals. From there two things will happen.

1 they’re not that good and are found out by the good teams. In which case their easy fixture was of no real use at the business end.

2 they are that good and they play well in finals. They beat good teams when it matters. In which case was it really the easy fixture that got them to that position?

Obviously it helps with building momentum and grabbing wins when you’re missing your best players is very handy. But how often have we looked at the preliminary finalists and said they got there cos of an easy fixture.

We had a reasonably tough front 9 last year and got flogged in a couple. This year has been much easier, I dont think we can can complain about other sides getting an easy run. You can only play who you come against regardless. It is swings and roundabouts. If the team keeps on winning then you can expect us to do well in the finals. Beating sides who we have had trouble with in the past is the key.

Getting thrashed by the Dons, Tigers and the Dogs last year absolutely drained the momentum out of us. Although we had that epic comeback against the Eagles the week after the Dons game. Only to follow that up with an 80 point loss to the Tigers.

Then scraped a couple wins, thrashed the Hawks and took it up to the Cats before getting demolished by the Dogs.

Jeez we were bi-polar last year. Reads like a team trying new things, playing guys in different positions, and evolving a game plan....

From that game onwards, should have beaten Sydney (higgo miss) should have beaten crows (epic choke), held richmond to 2 goals, did similar to the pies, beat the lions at their home ground, close loss to Port, close loss to WC (away) lost to carlton (bad loss), beat sydney, took it to geelong again, smashed fremantle.

Bar a couple poor performances (crows second half, blues game) I guess you could say we were finding some momentum late last year.

It helps that Crouch and Ross came good and that Gresham has held up.

Contested midfield footy is back in fashion and if we'd had another year with Steele as our only decent mid we would be much like last year.

Naz looks good in a side that has ball winners so that he can run around loose. The club backed in a few guys that have come good but it was a gamble that paid off. Usually we haven't been great when it comes to rolling the dice. We seem to always play with loaded ones.

I'm not getting ahead of myself yet, we are still in our easier part of the fixture but you can't help but be happy with our form.

I still think long term Hobbs will be a star. Naz has more chance at being something etherial and special but perhaps more chance at looking ordinary in an ordinary side. I don't mind what type our guns are, as like as long as they are stars. To elevate to the absolute top we need quality on the list.
We are off to a good start this year due to many factors.
First thing that has to be remembered last year we were disseminated by injuries.
Our fitness could been a factor in the injuries I don't know but one thing for sure they went out and picked up one of the best in the business to correct it.
In all you can't knock the football management and coaches always attempting to get better - the new fitness coach with the defensive coach has helped us realize potential.
Our trade and drafting has been exceptional and being able to play 3 first year players by round 4 and picking up mature recruit Hayes and de-listed Port backman Lienert have been excellent pickups.

1/ We now have 2 fit ruckmen and even have a guy who can actually help when a ruckman needs a break (Hayes)
2/ No one really factored in the loss of Gresham last year and is currently showing what we missed.
3/ Hill , Butler , Ross are getting back to there best form where last year they could of been dropped if we had anyone to replace them.
4/ Sinclair is amazingly getting better and could actually be classed as elite.
5/ Just the development of King and Higgins has made of forward line one of the most potent in the league.
6/ We now have a midfield who can actually break even allowing our game plan to work.
7/ Long , McKenzie , Battle have started to show they are AFL players.
8/ Our starting line up hasn't any weak players.
9/ We have depth even with Jones , Bytel , Billings , Clark and Coffield out.
10/ The coach has a plan B and is willing to move magnets when needing too.
11/ We have the cattle talent wise to play finals and isn't it amazing how winning changes peoples perspective on the team list.
12/ We have stars in the team - Gresham , Steele , King , Higgins , Marshall , Hill , Crouch , Sinclair , Membery can all change a game.

Is there a drought of commas at your place?

Punctuation is for conformist w***ers.

Speaking of that I read a post modern book without punctuation once. It was an experience.....not a good one.
