The below training report appeared in another Collingwood fan site I'm a member of, thought I'd share.

TRAINING FRIDAY 20TH MAY :-

Quite a cool morning for training. Overcast and 14deg. And felt like 10deg when a nice biting breeze got up.

Training got underway at 9am. Players in rehab today were Charlie Dean, Will Kelly, Ash Johnson, Jordan Roughead and Jack Madgen. Jack Madgen did quite a bit of running with Charlie Dean and he also joined in a couple of non contact drills. Roughead later played in a match sim taking a few marks but I notice there was no punching the ball so I would say at least another week away, maybe two. There was no sign of Grundy. Jack Crisp and Steele Sidebottom seem to have shaken off the flu ok and both trained solidly including in the match sim. Jamie Elliott didn’t appear to have any problems and Pendlebury and Ginnivan who both missed last week with flu both trained well too. Pretty sure those 4 will all play.

Training got under way with a short match sim for about 15 minutes. Interesting that all those named on the extended bench, i.e. McCreery, Poulter, Ginnivan, Murphy, Henry, McInness, Tyler Brown and Ruscoe were all in white jumpers except Ginnivan. So obviously it is a real battle for the bench spots.

After the short match sim there were tackling drills in groups followed by practising the fast ball movement from deep in the backline to deep forward around one wing and then back down the other wing. That went on non-stop for about 20 minutes with all players continually on the move and 2 or 3 always backing up the player with the ball. Would be good if they can bring that ball movement into the game more often.

After a short rest the squad had another match sim that went for about 1/2hr. It was interesting that Mason Cox was 1st ruck opposed to Aiden Begg and Darcy Cameron seemed to be at CHF. I’m hoping that is where they line up against Freo. Cox won most of the hitouts against Begg but Begg was really good a couple of times when the ball hit the ground and he gathered the ball at his feet well and drove it deep forward. But Cox did well in the ruck and took a couple of good marks around the ground. Cameron did well at CHF too. All the players battling for a spot on the bench did well. So whoever misses out will be unlucky.

INS and OUTS :- Pendlebury, Ginnivan, Cox and Elliott are obvious ins and I think McCreery should keep his spot particularly as it is forecast for rain. I think Oliver Henry deserves his spot even though he had the yips in front of goal last week. He still took a few marks and gave himself plenty of chances for goals. And I think the 4th spot will be a toss up between Nathan Murphy and Trey Ruscoe. Personally I would give it to Murphy despite his lack of matches through injury. He was very good in his 1st match for weeks in VFL last week. Ruscoe was good last week too. Out would go Madgen of course, Begg, Tyler and Callum Brown, Poulter (who would be unlucky) and Fin Mcrae who was last week’s sub.

Let’s hope we can put on a good, competitive game on Sunday with those experienced players back. Go Pies. 👍💪💪

still waiting on the club injury report.

Impressive effort to dislocate his finger to the extent of breaking the skin, without causing a fracture or ligament sprain. Suspect there is a bit of mayo on that report.

Don’t they have to get an independent doctor to verify stuff like that if they want a player to be given the OK to play? I thought that was a part of the process to avoid clubs taking the piss with injury subs?

That was the case last year but it seems to have been eased this year. Lots have played the week after being subbed this year.

To be completely honest I’m not up with the rules on this stuff. I don’t see any particular reason why the doctor ought to be an independent one unless the injury the player was subbed for was concussion related.

The guy who does the injury report is very impressive. He always gives a very detailed and thorough report on the players’ injuries, and how far along they are in their recovery. So diffferent to the old days when the likes of Eade and Walsh looked like they had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the chair to give the report.

I thought players could be subbed if there was a chance they would miss the following week. A player leaving the ground with a dislocated finger that has broken the skin would be a strong chance to miss the following week I’d have thought. But it’s a grey area, especially on injuries that require scans to determine the full extent.

Looking forward to getting dean and Johnson back. Think those 2 can really add value to the side
Both have never played the level, I’m hoping they both can add something but were brought in as depth with hope of upside and development. Looking forward to both getting their chance but still realistic on what they will offer.

Dean was vfl player of the year, there’s some pretty good past afl players that won that. Johnson was tearing up the vfl before he got injured. Im def hopeful of both.

Both unlikely to play AFL this year.
Has to be some doubt on Johnson getting another contract. Hopefully he does but spots will be tight.
