No at all. Dixon is much loved and abilities appreciated ... It's the use of him that is the issue, and sadly it might have to take this injury for Ken and his forward coach to come up with something else other than "Bomb it to Dixon!"
Yep fair enough and agree

*much loved

I love winners and blokes that tear finals apart
I feel that the role Dixon plays can be played by someone else just as well, if not better.
Not really Dixon fault, he’s been given a shit role for his skill set.

Our strategy appears to be in response to Richmond's gameplan of attacking from defence. They would lose centre bounces, intercept the pressured inside 50 and then score on transition. By always bombing to Dixon you shut down that avenue of attack through transition and he doesn't get intercepted against much if ever. We've seen this effectively shutdown Richmond's offence, with the flip side being our offence is less potent / less structured at producing scores.

What I would to see us improve is our midsized forwards. We need someone who can be both an aerial and a ground player like a Bailey Fritsch, Toby Greene, Jamie Elliot, Luke Breust.

Fantasia, Robbie, Motlop all rely on the ball being brought to ground and force the kicks to Dixon/Marshall/Mitch. Rozee played this role in his first season, but has struggled since. Butters is another one that is rarely an aerial target even though he can take a leap.

When I look at our list I see a distinct lack in this type of player. We have talls who are solid beneath their feet (Marshall, finlayson, dixon) and small crumbers /half forwards, but very few lead up medium forwards.

I would love to see Bergman and rozee play this role with stints in the middle but really we should have a dedicated forward playing this role that the half forwards can always look to away from Dixon. Maybe Lachie Jones? I'd be hesitant to mess with his development by shifting him around though.

But we had Tredrea?

Ah not the same.
I mean as a leader, his dominance, he was the best player in the comp when fit (watch First 20 mins of the Brisbane game at Footy Park) “No Primus, Port aren’t a Chance of a flag.”

Port practiced that in 2003 - No Primus, Francou and James in September, just like Brisbane would have struggled with no Keating, Black and Voss in any of their four September campaigns.

People forget that back to back broken legs in 2000 and 2001 meant Lade didn't get back to some sort of decent form until late in 2003. Look at the games he played in 2002 and early 2003 and he looks unstable in contests.

For all the talk of we need to phase Dixon out or we'd be better off without him in the forward line that persists when he has a bad game or anything like that the reaction to him hurting his ankle speaks volumes.

We will be a worse side without him out there, he may have his faults and bad games, but his presence opens up the forward line for Mitch to do what he does, and drags the best defender away from Mitch. I'd like to see Mitch lead out of the square this year and have Dixon further up to give Mitch the space and develop his craft, but we need Dixon to help him and assist his development. Todd needs to take a step up this year, hopefully he's had a good pre season and can step up a gear.

A time will come when Dixon will start to be phased out, but I can't see it being this season.

Not really Dixon fault, he’s been given a sh*t role for his skill set.
So last years leading goal scorer and the year before, All Australian, and we have someone else who can play the role as well.
Who the f… would that be?

The role is shit, not the player.

So what role would you have him play?

I’d have him leading as a decoy rather than as a target.
That’s pretty much most peoples take is it not?

Post-season surgery list: (For reference)
Aliir Aliir – knee
Bergman – shoulder
Boak – knee
Drew – ankle
Fantasia – knees
Hayes – knee
Motlop – ankle
Wines – knee

Ouchhh

In simple terms, not at all.
So your No1 forward, and therefore your targetted forward, who leads your goalkicking on numerous occasions is an AA in a team that has been top 4 for the last 2 years would be better if used as a decoy?
What Premiership Team bases their success on a decoy No1 forward? certainly not Richmond, they like us play a targetted big man in Lynch with a 2nd fiddle in Reiwoldt and numerous small crumbers.
I too are actually looking forward to seeing what different personnel in the forward line looks like in a match, but using Charlie Dixon as a decoy is not your answer.
