We pay 100% of his contract in 2023 and $750k a year for the last four - AND we trade ROB and give them what we get and nothing more?

I'd be very happy with that.
Grundy will be 29 YO next year .....maybe if our list was more advanced

He was playing awful footy B4 he was injured, on the back of a poor season last year ......just can't see us chasing Grundy TBH

The thing is, I think with the playing group we could get away with saying these were already Grundy's prior contract conditions.

If we bring another mid with that contract, you can imagine many would be disgruntled. Not to mention, I dont think there is any that would want to come to SA and or the Crows.

Grundy, JHF, Michaelanny would be an awesome improvement to various holes in our list at the end of the year.

Then we look to get say Rankine when he is FA and we can look at finals towards the end of the 2020s.

I'm not even sure if Grundy is keen on an SA return. Last I heard he loves Melbourne.

Totally agree. Wouldn't go anywhere near Grundy. Let Collingwood deal with a very bad decision. We should put our energy into finding a dumb club like us that will take on ROB's contract.

I can see Port chasing Grundy though .....he's the missing piece, they have no #1 Ruckmen .....Lycett is "shot"

Yeah if Grundy finds his way back to SA, it'll be to Port

1) Lycett getting older, Hayes not exactly cementing himself
2) could very well see him as the 'piece' needed to make one final push with Boak, Wines etc
3) apparently have cap space? Not sure on this one but I think I read an article earlier this year saying they did

I’d chase Grundy depending on what the deal was……

If they’re giving him away with say their first round pick for say our 2nd/3rd pick as a total salary dump then if look at it.

We could trade ROB then for a later pick as well for extra points for Max M.

Grundy may be on the decline but he’s still a massive upgrade of ROB.

Someone on the port board some days back mentioned Grundy had already spoken with Port and had been seen at Alberton oval. No idea if it was bogus or not

Apparently the Pies would be open to a trade for Grundy if the right offer presented itself.

Grundy would allow us to clean out a few deadwood at our Club and provide for us that "extra mid" in the way he plays at ruck as well. He is well done on his numbers and formline in 2022, but we would be a significant improvement on anything we have now or in the future. Playing TT and Grundy in the same team is very doable given how mobile they both are and would allow us to stretch teams in attack, with Tex and Fog right up there as well.

If the Pies were to pay some of his salary, it is worthy of consideration as it wouldnt impact on our salary cap as well. In terms of trade, I think the Pies would be happy to get him off their books given the talent on their list and the price wouldnt be as high as what it may have been a few years back.
I watched the Collingwood game with my best mate who's a keen Magpie fan. Follows it pretty closely.
We discussed Grundy and he was as confused as anyone with what Collingwood should do with Grundy, Cox and Cameron. He did say that playing all three in the same team is not possible.

But...

He did say that of the three, Grundy is the least effective up forward due to his overhead marking being below the other two.

For the financial and drafting assets we would need to commit to any potential deal for Grundy, I want a big guy who is a strong overhead mark.

Ignore the financial aspect at least for the next two years, we have plenty of cap space.

This becomes amplified if we can shove ROB out the door and force Sloane to retire early.

We have plenty of cap space apparently but we still need to be fiscally responsible. If we aren't spending it then we should front end contracts or go after a experienced quality mid. Ruck is one of the holes in our list but KPD and midfield are bigger holes. I think we can cobble together a ruck line with Strachan, Thilthorpe, Murray, Frampton. I would definitely trade ROB to free up money for Rankine, Hopper if they are interested in coming. Get a young ruck in and let them develop so when we are better they will be ready. Mobile rucks that are an extra mid are the way forward. Grundy is not the player he was even two years ago and isn't as mobile as he was. He is also injury prone, too old for where we are at and expensive. I would take Maynard off their hands though or Carmichael. Oh wait, isn't he the bloke we could have got for nothing.

I know exactly where it comes from.

It's all the boomers on here that use it constantly that make it such a cringe thing to say. It's the posting equivalent of a Yorat impersonation.

Brynn Teakle looked decent in his short debut.

A number of posters keep on saying we can trade so and so but totally forgetting we have signed most of these players on 4-5 year deals and only recently as well when we were at our lowest ebb (therefore we were concerned they may have moved).

How on god’s earth do you think the masterminds of our club are going to 1) convince the player to move and 2) convince the other club with the agreed salary in the contract.

Worst negotiators are the AFC.

Port will lose Amon at years end ....so that's $500K thereabouts, that could go to Grundy

Robbie Gray 35 YO next year ....does he go on ?

This will be Wobbie's Gray attempt at a mark next year.

Zero interest in Grundy
No what we need due to his age, and what he would cost in terms of picks. His salary would impact our ability to attract others.
Ruck is an issue but he is not the solution, plus there are bigger problems that need fixing more urgently
